Drifters.
This Anime reminds me alot Heroscape. The story involves Historical figures transported to an alternate world fiiled with fantasy creatures to fight against the forces of evil. It has people like Samurai, Gunslingers, Roman generals fighting alongside dwarves and elves against armies of orcs and other Drifters like Joan of Arc
Its from the creator of Hellsing and has one season out so far. The battles are a mix of tactical warfare and awseome duels.
If this show had robots it would literaly be Heroscape lol
