Hawkeye (Agent)

C3G STANDARD PLAYTEST FEEDBACK FORM

NAME OF THE PLAYTEST UNIT: HAWKEYE

VERSION TESTED

Spoiler Alert!

Team Test

Map: DARK DIMENSION

Units: Iron Man (270), Captain America (240), Doctor Strange (320), Hawkeye (170) (1000) vs King Ghidorah (1000)

Unit Summary: Rescue Mission plus Cap’s bonus made Hawkeye feel pretty strong for the cost. The Avengers had better dice here and just got wounds on Ghidorah too fast for him to counter.

Game Summary

Spoiler Alert!

  • Damage Done (Normal Attack): Inflicted [7] wounds on [King Ghidorah [7]]
  • GRAPPLE ARROW: Used [0] times, felt [usable, it just didn’t come up]
  • TRICK ARROWS: Used the 2 attacks option [0] times, the -2 Defense option [1] times, and the damage dice option [0] times; felt [good]
  • RESCUE MISSION: Got the bonus for [2] attacks; felt [strong]

Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Captain America with 4 Life, Doctor Strange with 4 Life, and Hawkeye with 1 Life win.

Team Test

Map: CONFLICT CHERNOBYL

Units: Hawkeye (170), Black Widow (230), Nick Fury (220), SHIELD Troopers (x2) (220), Banshee (160) (1000) vs HYDRA 1 (Baron von Strucker, Red Skull, Crossbones, Madame HYDRA, HYDRA Agents x3) (1000)

Unit Summary: Hawkeye was part of the Drop Team here so his Rescue Mission aspect didn’t come into play as they attacked early and managed to take out Red Skull and some HYDRA Troopers before falling.

Game Summary

Spoiler Alert!

  • Damage Done (Normal Attack): Inflicted [4] wounds on [Red Skull [2], HYDRA Trooper [2]]
  • GRAPPLE ARROW: Used [1] times, felt [handy for staying non-adjacent]
  • TRICK ARROWS: Used the 2 attacks option [2] times, the -2 Defense option [1] times, and the damage dice option [0] times; felt [good]
  • RESCUE MISSION: Got the bonus for [0] attacks; felt [like it could’ve shone if I’d waited to drop him]

Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Black Widow with 2 Life wins.

UNIT SUMMARY: He pairs nicely with Cap and with SHIELD and feels like a solid value for his points, but probably within reason. If other tests come in strong, I wouldn’t oppose a 10 point bump. I like how he plays.

Hmm…should Trick Arrows go back to being an SA?

I worry that SHIELD is getting a little too tee-d up to love an attack bosoter, which they don’t currently have to my knowledge? :2cents:

If they didn't have such strong thematic ties to Cap I'd be more in favor of that .... As is, I like the pull to Cap. Cap + Black Widow (230) + Hawkeye seems like a fun trio to build a team around.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Like the design with rescue mission. Trick arrows is a cool power, but I found myself only using the “-2 defense” one though. He’s pretty dangerous if you just keep him up on height all game and the grapple arrow keeps him mobile if anyone tries to take him out. In the first game hawkeye seemed a little spicy, the JL would’ve lost even sooner if it weren’t for a lot of good rolls defending and Archangel missing his auto-wounds. Second game Hawkeye was tested at 180 points, In game 2, Hawkeye was tested at 180 pts, he fits the point total, just a lot of lucky rolls at the beginning to take away Hawkeye’s team’s bonding, but after the bonding was taken away, he was still useful and playable. Overall, like the design, but he could be 180 Points and I'd still draft him.

I watched the end of the first game and played against him in the second game. anywhere from 170-180 would be draftable. He has a lot of tools to work with and I'm sure someone can find a spicier build Kid worked the angle of getting a boosted Rescue Mission to allow some after move damage dealers gets some free shots. Seemed pretty viable as a strategy. Knowing that I focused on taking out War Machine early. I also won every initiative until after Iron Man was taken out I think so he didn't get to stack that -1 onto Hawkeye's -2 defense to really strip me down. I think if we replayed that game KidA probably wins it with what he learned from that game. He'd never played with Dr Strange and neither of us had played the Gotham folks yet.

I think a move to 180 makes sense and keeping Trick Arrows a normal attack.

I propose a vote for Final Editing

Wording suggestions:
GRAPPLE ARROW
Once per turn, instead of his move or attack action, you may place Hawkeye within 3 spaces and no more than 25 levels below his base or above his height.

TRICK ARROWS
Before attacking a non-adjacent figure within 6 spaces, choose 1:
• Hawkeye may attack twice per normal attack action. The same figure may not be attacked more than once.
• The defender has -2 Defense.
• After combat, if the defender took 1+ wounds, you may roll X damage dice against it, where X = the number of wounds it took from the attack.

RESCUE MISSION
Hawkeye has +1 Range and Attack when targeting a non-adjacent enemy that is adjacent to 1+ allies. After combat, if the defender took 1+ wounds, you may maneuver each ally that was adjacent to the defender up to 2 spaces with Stealth.

We could also make Grapple Arrow into a special move if that's preferred. Right now the Grapple Arrow triggers off of maneuvers while the special move version would not, so it's a slight mechanical change.
GRAPPLE ARROW 3 SPECIAL MOVE
Move 3. Height 25.
This ability may only be used once per turn. Hawkeye may use this ability instead of an attack action.

Late getting to this, I also like switching Grapple Arrow to a special move.

@Arch-vile do you feel that the Rescue Mission change is a must? It's a power on 2 other cards, wasn't sure if it was something we needed to go back and update or not.

Will update the other 2 powers now, thanks.
