George R. R. Martin (as well as other recommendations)

I read in Entertainment Weekly that the producers have been told to go ahead and start working on the script for next season. While it did cost $50 mil for this season, they said that it would be worse to go all out like that for just one season of a show. So hopefully they go through with it. There is also the secondary market like DVDs (like I'm going to get as we're not signing up for HBO) so hopefully there will be enough money to be made for another season. I'm glad I got to at least see the premiere with free HBO weekend. :D

hopefully hbo was good in some shows, but epic fails like carnival, deadwood, rome thre was a sadly chane that we will never have an end. unlike the books thre seemes not be an end . but maybe martin got a full spirit or have build a plan in the years for a fast way of the books. like the dark tower.

I ended up watching it thanks to the free HBO weekend. I really loved seeing the Dog ride onto the scene. Looking forward to seeing on screen so many scenes and characters from the books now. I really hope they do the whole series. No one book ever really ended well, they all leave the story in limbo IMO. Hopefully Martin does a god job wrapping it all up in the last book and then HBO sticks it out to the end with the show.

I hope so too, but the cynic in me figures HBO can do five seasons long, long before GRRM will finish book 6.

Yeah, it was cool seeing the hound ride in and Tyrion was awesome as I had hoped. My wife didn't read the books, so I kind of gave her a quick rundown of who was who as it went on.

I hope it perseveres as well. I will probably buy some merch from their shop too. Should help keep it fiscally feasible for them.

Thanks for the link Jormi, I'll have to see about getting something from there. My birthday is in June, so maybe between that and Father's Day I can wrangle some merchandise. :D

I just signed up for HBO today specifically for Game of Thrones.

I want to do that, but as my wife pointed out, we spent $150 for NHL Center Ice package every year and just added HD. So that's as much as we'll do. However, I told her that I will buy the Dvds when they come out. :D

Cancel the NHL package and replace it with HBO, you don't need the NHL pack at this point, and by the time next season starts, you can cancel HBO. Sounds good to me.

That would be nice, but we already paid our installments for Center Ice, it's not a monthly add-on, it's like 4 big monthly add-ons.

Nice thought though. :D At any rate, I'm fine with waiting for the Dvds (though I'd rather be able to keep up with this thread on a weekly basis after every episode) , then we can watch them maybe a couple at a sitting.

Man. It was awesome.

However.

I really loved seeing the Dog ride onto the scene

He’s Sandor Clegane. He's The Hound. Not the dog. Here is a dog.

A pretty cool looking canine, but not the same thing as this guy.

I wouldn't want this guy hanging around under my dining table even if he is my favorite character in the books.

Yeah, Sandor is among my favorites. Tyrion and Arya are the others.

Yeah, they're great, too. Arya's probably my second. It's cool you got to see the premiere.

Yeah, and I have it saved on the DVR, so I can watch it anytime I'm jonesing to see it while I'm missing the rest of season 1. :D

Marcus is just there for the movement bonus to make tactical switch even more powerful. You don't actually use his soldier attack enhancement as that would limit the Warforged too much.

Raelin however, makes those guys beasts with 4 defense dice, though again, tactical switch limits the aura's usage.

Some thread is missing a nice comment. ;)

Doh! It has been a little while now since I read the books. Should have known the Dog sounded wrong, but you know who I was talking about.

There's talk that if they make it to A Storm Of Swords they may need two seasons to cover everything that happens. That will give him an extra year...

George's blog confirms today that they have signed on for a second season.

The first episode had 4.2 million viewers. Not too shabby.

He's The Hound, but, if memory serves, Joffrey refers to him as "my dog" and calls him "dog."

That's because Joffrey secretly wanted to be a rapper.

Just because Joffrey does it doesn't mean we all should. If Joffrey jumped off a cliff would you jump off a cliff? I didn't think so.

I would hate to try and explain the show to someone who hadn't read the books. Then again, reading the books doesn't always help explain what's going on...

I thought Bran's ability to climb was really well portrayed!

Well I did what I could to explain to my wife certain things. Such as the rangers guarding the north and how they've dwindled over the years and have been getting more dregs of the kingdoms. Why Catelyn doesn't like Jon Snow. Who John Arryn (sp?) was in relation to Catelyn. The deal with Cersei and Jamie and Joffrey. And some other things like that. I tried not to go into too much detail, but just gave a quick mention about a character or relationship.

Yeah, I loved they way they portrayed Bran's climbing. Very cool. 8)
