GenCon 2024 Event and Army Discussion

Wait, so are the Gencon Events implementing the point changes? I don't see anything on the official Gencon website, but I am hearing people say that units have new point costs? Are they expecting people to just randomly hear about how the tournament is being run from third parties?

I think that is what they are expecting, yes.

I think they will try to, but when a majority of the registered event players show up and have NO ****IN IDEA that it has happened because they were notified via the Gen Con Event page....well I think they will have to walk it back. By doing so they will create a new **** Storm for those whose armies are no way below the point limit.

Thanks for posting the links!

Their army builder includes the revised point values. For example, they list Major Q9 as 250 points, with a specific errata note mentioning the point increase.

EDIT: @MegaSilver answered me on discord.

So many questions

  • OK so I bought a ticket for Heroscape AoA - Champion of Valhalla on Gencon events site, but do I need to get a ticket for Saturday Heroscape 20th Anniversary Celebration Event as it says "Wear your Heroscape t-shirt for free entry!" and I have a bunch of shirts? Trying to save $4 I guess. I registered for both on Battle network
  • Do we get army provided at the Champion of Valhalla event?
  • Can I pickup my pre-sale units at Gen Con?
  • Anyone want to join the team event on Sunday with me?

Answer

  • I pickup my Preorder from Renegade pre-sale spot
  • I attend event (registered for Saturday at 10AM event) and use what I just picked up, and get a free t-shirt for participating
  • I attend 20th anniversary event using shirt I get at previous event. I don't need to buy a Gen Con ticket in advance for this

From Renegade Discord:

Hello Gencon attendees! I’ve gotten some guidance on a few FAQ’s regarding events for Gencon, pending any further updates from staff. Want to put these on the radar with folks soon in transit!

**Can I use custom dice or order markers?**
As per the floor rules, you must use official combat dice and order markers. Custom twenty-sided dice are permitted.

**What if my army doesn’t all fit in my start zone?**

As per the rules, you would have to drop figures from your army until it fits. Note that all maps in the Gencon pool feature 24-hex start zones.

**Updates from the latest FAQ document:**

You only need one army card for all your copies of a common squad or hero. Note that you will need official army cards for your army.

Also note that several figures have received point cost hikes that may affect your army building. You can find the full list here:

Thanks

So basically everything that was semi-ruled in Discord has been replaced with the official docs listed here?

FWIW, I've decided (on my own) to honor this cost change to the Teams event on Sunday, as well.

Also, I actually welcome this tweak to the format, though lord knows I wish it had been offered early enough to allow people more time to prep for the event. It's pretty rare for me to agree with Hahn, but waiting until 20 days before the Con is rough.

@Dad_Scaperwill you be enforcing the Renegade tourney rules for your Sunday event as well? I have painted 3d printed troops that are nearly indistinguishable from the real thing that I don't think I can use in the other events but wondering if you're able to be a little less stringent?

Me +1 will be participating in General Wars on Sunday! Would someone be willing to bring us Nerak & Blade Gruts x3?

When called upon to do so, I will enforce rules consistently with Renegade’s presentation of the rules. I will not be wandering from board to board inspecting.

Trevor asked me to post the format. Subject to slight changes for whatever reason, this will be the event:

General Wars Teams

Open to all players, 24 positions – 12 team slots (2 players per team). Each player must buy their own tickets (2 per team). Each team will be a pair of 170 point armies, and each team's two armies together may be no more than 18 spaces. Each player's army must be from a single general and teammates' armies must be from different generals. Three rounds, with prize support.

The time slot is tentatively 10-1 on Sunday.

Thanks for putting together a great event Dad_Scaper! Tried to +Rep but I need to spread some around first:)

Agreed! Great event @Dad_Scaper!

It was a great time and the final match came down to the wire... but slugging it out with my son by my side brought back all the feels of the original reason I fell in love with this game!
