Final 2014 Online Rankings
(Formerly 2014 End of Year Championships Qualification)
eoy2014op_zpsfc5a5e4f.png

Below are the final top 30 of the 2014 rankings.

This is the official qualification format for the 2014 EoY Championships event.

  • The winners of all regular seasons during 2014, as well as the winner of the 2013 EoY Championship event, will be invited to play in the event.
  • The remaining invitations will be given to the highest-ranked players, based on their 2014 ranking (details below) at the end of the last regular season in 2014.
  • Players who have not played in at least 2 full seasons will not be invited unless they won a 2014 season or the 2013 EoY event. Dropping from a season subtracts one from this count.
  • The tournament will have up to 16 players. We will continue inviting players to play until we have 16 players, up to the 25th position on the 2014 rankings board. If we do not have 16 spots filled by then we will assign first-round byes to the top seeded players.
2014 Rankings
In order to fairly and accurately track players' performance over 2014, we have come up with the following system. (Note: only games that are a part of a normal 2014 season count toward these rankings.)
  • Each player has a 2014 ranking that started at the base ranking level at the start of 2014.
  • When a game is played, three things happen (example: dok beats Kinseth):
    • The overall rankings (used for pairings during the seasons) is updated.
    • "2014 dok" gets credit for beating "Overall Kinseth"
    • "2014 Kinseth" gets credit for losing to "Overall dok"
The reasoning behind using this format instead of simply running the rankings normally but with only 2014 games: imagine a scenario where TheSparkleInYourWater (currently the #1 overall player) plays in the first event, goes 0-1, and then drops out and doesn't play the rest of the year. For whoever beat him, the win would look like a win over a bad player using the normal system, when in fact it's a very impressive win. Using this system, players advance a fair amount for beating a player who has proven himself to be good, but those good players still have to re-prove that they're good in order to make the cut.

Spoiler Alert!

 looks great guys. Much kudos for all the organizers for taking the time and effort to put all this together and giving us a well thought out system.

Any idea how many tournaments are planned for 2014? Seems like you could make a fairly static schedule if you wanted.

(In fact it would be kind of cool to have a few tournaments at the same time of each year be the same format every year, like every June is Main Event warmup, and every January is Draft Tournament or something like that. My old WWF fanboy wants them to be called the Royal Rumble and Survivor Series)

We have a schedule with dates internally, although we won't be posting it so that we can feel free to change stuff up if we want. I can say that we currently have 6 seasons scheduled for 2014, although that's with basically no breaks, so it could end up being fewer.

We do plan (loosely) to have a GC Main Event warmup season each year for as long as it's more prestigious than we are. ;)

Re: Official 2014 EoY Championship Qualification

Updated the OP with the live 2014 leaderboard, although it won't be all that interesting for a while.

Re: Official 2014 EoY Championship Qualification

Shouldn't Tablewalker and Sir Yeshua have one loss?

Re: Official 2014 EoY Championship Qualification

How is vegie's dad 1 and 1? Hasn't there only been 1 round so far?

Re: Official 2014 EoY Championship Qualification

Do the C3G ones count?

Eraguy, I'm pretty sure this has been answered for you last year. I believe it was a no and that it probably didn't change since those are unofficial.

Yes, this was answered last year.

Super League Heroscape is official, but is a separate entity from OHS Tournaments. The records of SLH are not included in OHS.

It is true the SLH is less formal than OHS, though.

Re: Official 2014 EoY Championship Qualification

Hey, I'm actually in the top 15! Maybe this year will be better.

Re: Official 2014 EoY Championship Qualification

Halfway through the 2014 season. I believe automatic bids for this tournament belong to:

vegie's dad (2013 End of Year Champion)
kevindola (Season 11 and 13 Champ)
MegaSilver (Season 12 Champ)

When do you expect the format for this to be announced?

Also, would it be possible to note who in the top would NOT qualify based on not having played the requisite 2 full tournaments?

Well if they have played fewer than 8 games, they haven't completed 2 seasons. (Except if somebody made playoffs one season and dropped out another, which seems unlikely, especially among top players).

Re: Official 2014 EoY Championship Qualification

Is anyone excluded yet? It's only June. I imagine there will be at LEAST two more Tourneys before the EoY event.

That's a pretty good way to tell. We don't have an easy way to tell set up, but if people want to be able to see it it could probably be done.

Oh ... during the S16 regular season at the latest, maybe way before. We haven't discussed it much yet.

14, 15, & 16 are all scheduled for this year, so even someone who has only played in and dropped out of one event could theoretically still get in.

Re: Official 2014 EoY Championship Qualification

The OP has been updated. I figured out a hack to get around our current inability to have live spreadsheets, namely putting the information into a form. The leaderboard should update live now.

You sure had some unbridled optimism about announcing a format way back in June, AU ;).

It appears we are in midst of the 'at the latest' timeframe, so we should see the public announcement at any second.....

Yeah, yeah. There you go. :p

Re: Official 2014 EoY Championship Qualification

Any thoughts to reducing the overall participant number in future years from 16 to 12 or 8? I imagine the 2013 EOY had a bigger pool of qualifying players that the 2014 EOY (even if you only considered the last 6 tournaments). Or maybe a 'must be above .500' qualifier?

2013 did have a bigger pool, yeah. After this year I think going down to 12 is probably a good idea.

Re: Official 2014 EoY Championship Qualification

I like top 12 for next year; that would be more dramatic. If that was the format for the current year it would be down to the wire between AU and vegie for the last spot. Plus there would be two big cutoffs: making the event, and making top 4 to secure a bye.

As it stands, though, the last two spots in the event are still up in the air. With lo pan and thesparkleinyourwater ineligible (too few events), simval has nudged past betawolf for the last spot. He will need a win in the last round to hold onto that spot, probably - betawolf could back in to #16 again otherwise. However, weebaer, currently sitting in 18th place, could potentially leapfrog both of them with a win in his last round against vegie's dad, and would almost certainly do so if he can follow that up with a playoff game win. If simval wins his last game and weebaer wins a playoff game, then that would probably knock TheLegendaryIrishSword out.

Re: Official 2014 EoY Championship Qualification

While the rankings could change due to playoff results in S16, the top 16 qualifiers (through #17 here since lo pan does not have two qualifying events) have been settled. Invites will be sent out soon. Congratulations and good luck to the qualifiers.

Re: Official 2014 EoY Championship Qualification

Any timeframe for when the 2015 qualifications/format/details will be posted?
