D3 DDM comparison pictures *Updated 10-25*

Re: D3 DDM comparison pictures *Updated 10-21*

Hey Hogg, if you could would you post a picture of the Ogre Pulverizer next to the Ogre Warhulk. Thanks!

And yes, I agree that the orc raider looks awful especially next to the other two armored orcs. There's really no excuse for that at all - it's not like they don't have any several other armored orc figures to pick from. The bugbear squad looks very nice though.

Re: D3 DDM comparison pictures *Updated 10-21*

The design team isn't responsible for everything to do with the cards, if what they put on there doesn't match WoTC DnD vision then it doesn't stay. From which general the figure serves, to it's home planet, and even powers. If the design team had wanted to make the Frost Giant serve Jandar (maybe they did), WoTC probably would have said/did say no he has to serve the evil General because he's evil in DnD.

Even the class of a figure doesn't always seem to be a result of what's best for the in game mechanics. Look at this quote from Guru about the Master of The Hunt taken from the preview "Since he's in the common pack, he's an Uncommon Hero that fights for Einar" It seems that a big reason he's uncommon and not unique is because of the pack he comes in.

Re: D3 DDM comparison pictures *Updated 10-21*

weird that the ice troll is large... He's a shrimp. The Dk's are both fine in height about, just frailer than they should be. Thankfully the bugbears and orcs are just about on scale and look great with their new paintjobs!

Re: D3 DDM comparison pictures *Updated 10-21*

First time I'm looking at these. The Ice troll is large? That is one pathetic looking figure.

Really....people are still complaining about the Frost Giant not serving Jandar?

Re: D3 DDM comparison pictures *Updated 10-21*

Thanks for posting those pictures.
They just confirm that my comments in regards to the Death Knights being crap were right. They do not look threatening, strong or formidable at all.

I know the design team said they were choosing figures that fitted well with the rest of the sculpts... but someone has been dropping the ball on that more and more as the D&D releases roll on. This release perfectly demonstrates the limitations of selecting models from another range to match a different game.

If they want to continue releasing 'scape, they better start sculpting, as they are clearly scraping the barrel with tripe sculpts like these.

Can we get confirmation on who selects these sculpts? WotC or Design Team? As I simply can't believe that the design team would undervalue their excellent design effort with such rubbish sculpts and size discrepancies.

Cheers,
Ben.
We didn't select the figures. My suggestion is as usual. If you don't like em don't buy em.... Simple as that.

Thus proving my theory! Thanks for giving me assurance on that, Grungebob!

Re: D3 DDM comparison pictures *Updated 10-21*

Size issues make me sad because it was always a problem for D&D Minis, I hate that its transferring over to 'scape. Sad thing is that there are some figures that are good in scale compared to what we are getting here. Heck, I'll even make WotC a list of more compatible figures.

Re: D3 DDM comparison pictures *Updated 10-21*

Thanks Grungebob, I didn't think you guys would be selecting these.
I will be passing on this wave.

Just as an aside, and you don't have to answer of course, but are the design team happy with the figure choices? And if they aren't are they pushing for changes in the future?

Cheers,
Ben.

Your design team has no qualms about being honest with our WOTC brothers.

Re: D3 DDM comparison pictures *Updated 10-21*

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Grungebob again.

Damn.

Thanks mate.
Cheers,
Ben.

I recall in one of the previews for D3, they said the MOTH, Siege, Eltahale, and Evar figures were given to us because the designers voiced disappointment in the four figures that were originally given to them by WOTC.

Perhaps this means that the design team has the ability to veto figures? Maybe they don't decide which ones are used, just which ones that aren't.

Re: D3 DDM comparison pictures *Updated 10-21*

His name is Peter Lee. He works for WotC and is a DnD guy. He is on some of the DnD boards.

I'm going to start calling the Ice Troll "Peter Lee." You know, the whole compensating thing.

Re: D3 DDM comparison pictures *Updated 10-21*

Last I checked Peter Lee was the guy who recast the elementals in clear plastic and got us access to the unreleased sculpts. Seems like he's on our side here.

Re: D3 DDM comparison pictures *Updated 10-21*

Haiku'd! :p

(His post looked like a Haiku and I wanted to make it so. I decided to put "Haiku'd" instead of "Fixed," since the former is more accurate.)
