Tournament Details

Classic League Special Event: Worst Christmas Gift

This tournament will be open scheduling. You will have until the end of February (~2.5 months) to schedule and play your games. You will have between 4-5 games to play in that time, depending on numbers.

The tournament is Worst Army .


Rules:

Each participant will submit 1 army consisting of classic heroscape units only. This army will be played by your opponent EVERY ROUND

- minimum of 500 points (no maximum point total)
-14 figure minimum (no maximum figure or hex total)
-Your army must contain at least 1 common squad army card
-You army must contain at least 3 unique heroes that are equal to or greater than 50 points
-Any common army card must have a minimum of 2 copies of that card in the army
-If a figure has a power that references another friendly figure, you must include at least the amount of figures that allow that power to be fully utilized. For example, if a squad has a bonding power, at least one bonding hero must be included. If you include Iskra, you must include Rechets, and vice versa. If you include Acolarh, you must include at least one elf. If you include Pelloth, you must include some other Drow. You do not have to include a Huge figure if you put in Sir Denrick as that power is not activated as friendly.

Fully utilized power, means that every option and every maximum possible power must be able to be in effect. If a power lists options, you must have both options. If a power lists an upper limit for allied figures, you must have that maximum:

What about Hatamoto Taro?
If you select Taro you must have both a samurai AND an Ashigaru army card in your army.



And Kato?
He's a toughie, but you would have to have ALL his minimum qualifications to meet the requirement. That means a unique samurai hero, a samurai squad (2 if common), and a squad of Yari and Harqs (converted then to 2 squads of each)

Explain to me about Elf Wizards?
Well to get the maximum effect, for example, if you select Cardris who has a maximum of +3 as his full effect power, then that requires 3 more elf wizards drafted into your army.

Acolarh?
Do I need an elf AND a different Ullar figure. Nope. Any Ullar elf would satisfy both power conditions.


Does Kelda require at least a 3 life figure in order to play?
You know what? It's my tournament and my FAQ, so go ahead and play Kelda with some 50+ point 1 and 2 life unique heroes. I'll allow it!

Tournament Setup

-There will be variable rounds (likely 4-5) and all rounds will be setup at launch. You will have until the end of February to schedule and complete all of your games

-The tournament is split into 3 divisions of 5 teams. Each division will send 2 and only 2 teams into the playoffs. If a tiebreaker is needed to decide which 2 teams will advance to the playoffs from each division the following tiebreakers will be used: (#1 head to head wins, #2 most points used in submitted army, #3 d20)

-The best W/L record from each division will be the division champion. The 3 division champions will be seeded #1-#3 with the top 2 earning byes.

-Rematch Avoidance within the playoffs given priority over seeding to avoid rematches where possible

-‘Mirror Matches’ of armies consisting of a high quantity of similar units will be avoided, when possible.

-A diceoff before each match will determine who chooses to place armies first

Almost tempted to do - such a great idea. Maybe I'll just voyeur on games that are posted, as can't rally commit. We will see a lot of C and below, however think about the meta. My guess is The Einar Imperium & Grok Riders could actually do really well as most of the units being played will be Melee, so their ranking goes up substantially. Even Shades of Bleakewoode can theoretically do well in this format against mostly melee and so many crappy unique heroes. But don't let that discourage you from bringing those units - just getting yall to "re-rank" figures in your mind for this tournament.

Also it would be really funny if you made the last game reverse-reverse-the-whip (i.e. play with the army you made). Only the last game though.

Additional question: Elf wizards that benefit from having additional elves. It’s technically not required to have an elf to use the ability, only to benefit. What’s the ruling there?

Ok, schedule should be completely done. Games are all listed in the OP.

Remember this is open scheduling, so feel free to start scheduling with your 4 opponents at any time. I plan on giving until the end of February to complete your 4 games.

Oh and please let everyone know whenever you are playing a game! Several enjoy spectating


How will playoffs work?

There are 3 divisions of 5 players (I'll get a standings table into the OP at some point). You will be playing everyone in your division once.

The top 2 from each division will advance to a 6 player playoff. (Top 2 overall will get byes) Seeding and playoff teams will be determined by most wins, then head 2 head, then most points in your submitted army.

No rematches in the playoffs unless it is finals.

Dysole vs. vegietarian18 (Gingerbread round game) happening now to start the event. Acolarh mirror match. It's going to come down to whoever gets the most home trees.

EDIT: No home trees rolled. The game started off with some hot rolls. Dysole took the first initiative and sent her Yari into my startzone and killed a Raider and a Repulsor, and the Repulsors fired back to kill 3 Yari. The Yari dropped another Repulsor and huddled on a hill, but the Repulsors kept rolling skulls and dropped 3 more Yari. Dysole deployed the Acolarh-boosted Morsbane next, running across the small board to kill a Repulsor. I sent Saylind, who summoned Acolarh, to tie down Morsbane, but Morsbane smartly disengaged to swing at Repulsors. The last three Repulsors took Astrid and set up a targeting beacon to try to blow up Morsbane, but only got him to 3 wounds. Deadeye Dan sniped the Omnicron off of Astrid and I never reclaimed it. But from there things started to tip in my favor. Shiori landed a 3 wound blow on to Acolarh, chased down Deadeye Dan and killed him, then killed one of the remaining Yari, then killed both of Dysole's Sag Raiders, then killed DW7K, all without taking a single wound, to give me the win with room to spare. Deadeye Dan was sniping Repulsors to keep 7K safe and 7K was tied up in engagement with Saylind during a lot of this so Dysole didn't have a lot of answers to the ninja. It was a fun game with a lot going on, so I'm a fan of the format so far.
