Card protectors?

I was wondering what some of you use to protect your cards. I know I've seen a few threads like this before, but they're buried somewhere...

I recently received a Win Chiu Woo figure for my birthday, and I've been obsessing over how to keep it safe. (The figure always goes back into it's plastic holder thing) I put the card in a Ziplock bag for now, but it's rather bulky. I thought of laminating it, but I don't want to ruin it...

Normally I throw all my figures into a box, and put the cards in a Ziplock bag, but this is a special case. :p

Any good ideas?

Haha. At first thought, I was thinking about the other week when my friends and I played a poker game, and we each chose a heroscape figure to place on top of our cards / chip stack as a "mascot" in a way. I chose the Izumi samurai who points his sword in front of him. Needless to say, my friends were very intimidated.

Back on topic, I am personally not very obsessive over how "in shape" I keep my cards, figures, etc. Although, I do try to keep the cards and figures in seperate ziplock bags.

If you could find some kind of card holder, similar to the ones used for baseball cards and such, but in a larger size to fit a Heroscape card, I would do that. I see no problem with lamentation, if you REALLY feel like you must keep the card in the best shape possible.

I thought about the baseball card holders, but unfortunately, they're all.... baseball card sized... :p

And on lamination, I think that will kill the value if I would ever want to resell it...

You should really run a search for ideas, because this has been discussed a lot, and
a) There are many good ideas to browse. I myself recommend cd sleeves by-the-pack (WM) that fit in a three-ring binder, and

b) There are admins coming, and they sound angry.

Take it to Office Max and they will laminate your cards for only a little $, and with the laminating machine they use, there are no bubbles, or other "oopses" to worry about. I've taken my cards there over the years, and they do a GREAT job.

Plus, you don't need to worry about spills, you can play in the rain, and they're then essentially tear-proof.

Laminate at Office Max... highly recommended.

@Spite, I plan to close it anyway. I just wanted a few ideas.

And thank you for the ideas, all. I'll look into them!

EDIT: I forgot I can't close my own topics here... :p Whoops.

I wasn't being a jerk, its only that recycled topics tend to provoke harsh comments. Hope I didn't come across as one of them.

I'm not insulting you, it's just funny. Lamination, not lamentation...the latter is the act of expressing grief. And that's just funny when you read exactly as written.

I see no problem with lamentation either. After all, what is happiness? To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.

I should do that since I cry when I lose too.

Win.

I just got some of those Poly Pro from sleevetown/city and they are nice and economical. A couple of my cards are a tight fit.

Yeah I had to put mine in sideways for them to fit. Once I figured that out everything was great.

I use the PolyPro's too... great price and they work just fine.

Once all stored I put them all in an old 5-1/4" floppy disk case...

I use contact paper for all of my cards. I then store them in pages meant for storing thin CD cases. It turned out to be the best bet!! I can store multiple cards with ease and they won't slip out since the opening is to the inside of the page. You can get them cheap at Office max (or Staples, I dcon't remember). The last time I checked, they were $5 for 10.....

I stumbled across this guy on eBay one day and I've used his protectors ever since. I like them because they are heavy duty.

I don't think you really need to protect the cards, since they are not collectible such as Baseball, Pokemon, etc. Unless of course, you are going to do a "Shuffle and Split" army, in which case you shuffle the cards and deal them out to players. A card that was bent would kind of push up and the stack of cards and would make an uneven appearance.

If you are a person who likes to consume "beverages" during game play, protectors are a no brainer.

I usually don't are too much, but like I said, I'm being paranoid about Woo.

And thanks a lot for all of your suggestions! I will look into them, and give an update on what I decide on. (Though, if this thread is locked, then I won't. )

Thanks to Annerios, I go the top loaders route.
A bit pricey, but very sturdy and easy to browse the cards when drafting.
Browsing is much like sifting through those long comic boxes - flip through by tapping and pulling the top portion of the sleeve.
I have a box of uniques and box for commons. I keep two copies of each commons available.
Those white pages in the uniques box are computer printed copies of Isamu's card. I have about three for multi-player game nights. I proxy the figure with spare NotNW.

The sturdy and long format of the top loaders are great when gaming room is tight.

Definitely a thread where you have to watch what you say. Am I the only one with a dirty mind around here?
