C3G Synergy Archive

Current Jokers:

Joker (I), Joker (II)

Updated through SSE 41.

 Really? How is this a synergy? They can't be played together.

It's not "synergy," it's a place to link for synergy.

I feel like some of the recent posts have been... misinterpreting this thread? It's not really useful on its own, it's a resource for the Books. So instead of having a list of "Joker I, Joker II, Joker III, Golden Age Joker, Dark Knight Joker, Emperor Joker" in any unit with Joker-specific synergy (such as the Joker Goons), you can just link to that individual post.

It's less useful in this case than "Mutants" or "Vigilantes," but makes sense for consistency.

Ahh ok. That makes sense. Wouldn't it be cool if you could have a linking placeholder that would insert a view of the text at that point instead of clicking each link to be redirected to the post.

Yep, Johnny has it right. This thread was created to compliment the Unit Books, and make it easier to keep the Books up to date. Since then it's been found to be a useful thread on its own if you're looking for all of a specific species or class (such as wanting to find all the Mutants or all the Legionnaires), but its original and primary use is for the Books.

In the case of that Joker post, I made it because this morning I was updating the Joker Goons' thread and I needed a list of all the Jokers due to their Clowning Around ability.

Just as an FYI; the below is a response from Xorlof to my question about a future ability to reference a single post & have it display whatever text is there as an insert to the current post. Which it would be perfect for what you guys are doing here.

That actually should be possible @A3n. You'd have to create a special page on the proposed wiki and then you could have vBulletin include the text in your post. The syntax to do it would look something like:

The Book of Joker Goons
...
  • Joker Goons can take wounds for Joker with their Clowning Around power. Current C3G Jokers include: [template]C3G Jokers[/template].

[template]C3G Jokers[/template] would be replaced with the current contents of that (the "Template:C3G Jokers") wiki page.

Yes, it would be helpful in such a situation. However, better yet would be to move the Books to the Wiki and then tagging them appropriately. The wiki would handle the rest.

For example, somewhere on the Joker Goons page, you would add something like the following:

[category]Human[/category]
[category]Unique Squad[/category]
[category]Criminal[/category]
[category]Desperate[/category]
[category]Medium[/category]

(That tag soup would end up looking something like the attached picture below. Clicking on any of the categories shown in that image would show all units that are also in that category.)

Then on, for example, The Riddler's page, under Criminal Ambush power, which boosts Criminals, you could put the tag: [widget]category|category="Criminal"[/widget] and the wiki software would list out all of the Criminals for you, including the Joker Goons, because that is one of the categories you added them to. If another figure ever got added to the Criminals category, The Riddler's page would automatically show that figure in the Criminal Ambush synergy list too.

that would be awesomely great for these guys that are trying to keep everything updated.

That would be awesome. Essentially what we're already trying to do here, but with software to actually back it up.

And updated automatically when new releases happen...which means we will probably have to hold off on tagging categories until the release or there could be spoilers...

As a person viewing a Unit's thread though I would prefer to see all of them listed rather than just the category. I don't want to have to click each link to see only that list. I want to get an idea of the team I can build on that one page. ;)

Right. Unless I misunderstand what you mean, you still get that--it just happens automatically. Adding a unit to categories just "tags" it to allow it to appear on the other unit pages that should have it inline in their synergy sections (no clicking to another page).

It has the side-effect that you get the clickable links on the bottom of the page too. On the Joker's page you could click to see other Masterminds, for example. That's not something we currently do or we especially need, but it comes along for free.

I can work up a live example if there is interest in this. That might help clarify. Let me know.

Sorry X2, I was looking at the picture you provided & thought that was the result of the referential tags. Which was different to what you described (which seemed to be in-line with what I was asking). So I was a little confused & just trying to reclarify. I think a live example will be great, but I think we also need that Wiki ;).

I'm going to spin up the wiki soon. I actually had a test one going a couple of months back, but didn't put it onto the live site. Stay tuned...

which is probably why I couldn't find it when I went looking.

Current Special Powers that Place Avenger Markers:

Current Special Powers that involve Avenger Markers:
  • Phil Coulson (190) may boost the attack of figures with an Avenger Marker on their card when he is destroyed with his Something to Avenge special power.
  • Hulk (Avengers) (450) may take a turn after a figure with an Avenger Marker on its card with his Hulk Best There Is! special power.
  • While Hank Pym (90) has an Avenger Marker on his card, other Hank Pyms you control are also considered to have an Avenger Marker on their cards due to his Pym Particles special power.

Updated through Wave 49.
