Re: Belgarath's Atlas

Nice map. May I suggest adding walls to the bridges? And what paperclip technique? What thread was it in?

Re: Belgarath's Atlas

I'll have to do a search to see if I can find it again. I don't have time right now cause I have to go to work to earn some more heroscape money! Basically you use the small binder clips to hold the hexes togather to form a bridge. I think it was in one of the map threads.

That is a WAY cool idea! I'm sitting here in my law office thinking I've got about 100 small binder clips in my desk. I guess tonight I am going to be building a very looooong bridge.

Re: Belgarath's Atlas

I added a pic of how I used the paper clip binders to make bridges to the original post. I did a search on this forum and got a lot of hits for paper clips but not the exact one I was looking for that showed the technique.

Re: Belgarath's Atlas

I tried your binder clip technique out last night and it worked beautifully. Very strong binding action. My kids are going to love this. They love to build really long bridges as it is.

Re: Belgarath's Atlas

I'd like to take credit for the idea but I have to give it up to this site and the great mapmakers here cause that it where I got the idea from. It does work well though. You might need to use some clips to bind the two halves of the bridge together also.

Re: Belgarath's Atlas new map added 3/31/10

I added a new small map today with a bridge theme. I haven't physically built it yet to play test but I think it will be pretty balanced. I am only making small maps right now because I'm still learning about VS and I really don't have a lot of tiles. I have 1 RotV, 1 SotM, 1 Marvel, and 1 BftU sets. Hopefully I can order a fortress set or two soon as well as some RttFF sets.

Man this pic takes me back...

+rep for nostalgia

And I really like that you call your thread an 'Atas'....Classy...

I'd like to steal that but... ;)

PS. The Belgariad rocks...

Steal away! I'm not the first to use the word:D. David Eddings is one of my favorite authors. I have read everything he wrote almost and own nearly as much as I have read.

Re: Belgarath's Atlas new map added 5/11/11

Here is a new map I made for the GenCon contest. The title is Close Quarters.

That maps is pretty awesome, but it heavily favors the Airborne Elite and Zelrig. Hard to prevent z-bombing on GenCon sized maps, but the AE would have a great advantage on it.

Peace, *kai

Edit. I was thinking you were talking about Ment for Battle. I just noticed you were talking about Close Quarters. I really didn't think about the AE when I made this map. You are right though, they would own it. I don't have Zelrig so I didn't consider him either.

Re: Belgarath's Atlas update 5/31/11

Here is something I did just for some fun. I haven't created any PDF files for it but if anyone is interested then I'll put them together. I do not have a card for the giant Catbeast of Doom but I can assure you she is in Utgar's army!
Spoiler Alert!

Re: Belgarath's Atlas updated 5/31/11

Meant For Battle looks like a great map! I think i'll give it a go after Gencon. But on the most recent map you posted without the VS, I really like what you did with the castle, especially the door that is a few levels up that makes a sort of balcony, it is a really neat idea and a great way to get some awesome height advantage! I just built a similar map tonight, except the back of the castle was made out of a large rock mountain and instead of a multiple level castle on the inside I put some caves through the rock.

Re: Belgarath's Atlas updated 5/31/11

Thanks for the comments! My family and I played Ment for Battle several times and always had competitive games on it so I think it will be a pretty good map. I'm sure there are some figures that will be able to take more advantage of the map features than others but in a general sense I think the map is pretty balanced. If you do play on it let me know how it went and what your thoughts are on making the map better. I'm still learning and I welcome comments and critiques on all my maps and customs.

The castle idea came about because I had bought a couple more FotA sets and I wanted to see what I could come up with. We never even played that map but it did look pretty cool. I like your idea about making a mountain with caves behind your castle. I bet something like that would make a really cool dungeon crawl map.
