Re: Atom Eve - Design

She's been workshopped a bunch of times over the last few months, so Bats and I ran her at the con. We were really happy with how she played. We played the trio, Eve, Invincible, and Omni-Man twice, once against the Outsiders, and once against the DBZ Androids + Falcon. The Invincibles won both games, though mainly because the other team couldn't crack Omni-Man's defense. So we were planning to drop his life and defense to make him play a bit nicer with the others, and adjust Mark and his points to compensate. Eve herself felt perfect and didn't want any changes.

Re: Atom Eve - Design

Then I ran her again with the changes to Omni-Man (7 Life/4 Defense) and Invincible (Desperate Attack working on 2 wounds on him) and got these results

NAME OF THE PLAYTEST UNIT: ATOM EVE
VERSION TESTED
Spoiler Alert!

Team Test
Map: Conflict Chernobyl
Units: Omni-Man (440), Invincible (360), Atom Eve (200) (1000) vs Fantastic Four (1000)
Unit Summary: There was a pivotal moment where Human Torch whiffed his defense and took 3 wounds. I rerolled it and he took 2 instead and Thing went Clobberin’ Time crazy and the Fan Four won with 1 Life Human Torch and full Life Thing. So then I played it back as Torch whiffing and Omni-Man with 5 Life won. Eve didn’t do much here but she did draw fire away from her allies and her defensive subtraction helped Invincible take out an Order Marker loaded Mister Fantastic.
  • Damage Done (Normal Attack): Inflicted [0] wounds
  • MATTER TRANSMUTATION: Added [2] blocks for Eve and [0] blocks for her allies
  • GUARDIANS TEAM UP: Used for [6] activations with Eve
  • ATOMIC ALTERATION: Used to subtract [2] defense total from enemies
Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Version 1: Human Torch with 1 Life and Thing with Full Life win. Version 2: Omni-Man with 5 Life wins.

Units: Omni-Man (440), Invincible (360), Atom Eve (200) (1000) vs Superman (JL) (460), Batman (JL) (230), Wonder Woman (JL) (310) (1000)
Unit Summary: Eve got focused in on and taken out fast in this one. An initiative switch in Round 2 sealed her fate. Superman’s inability to rescue his allies really hurt him here. Superman rolled better than Invincible and Omni in end game, though, and finishes things off.
  • Damage Done (Normal Attack): Inflicted [2] wounds on [Batman [2]]

UNIT SUMMARY: She feels good. I think in future builds with Robot and the like she may have less of a target on her head. Here she’s the obvious go-to choice, because you don’t want her adding blocks to the Viltrumites and she’s the easiest to take out (plus it nulls the bonding turn). In other builds with more vulnerable or pivotal synergy pieces, I imagine she’ll have more room to breathe and act in a more offensive role.

Re: Atom Eve - Design

Is she not starting with the markers? It's fine either way, just clarifying the intent as the wording currently just establishes the markers and then she must generate them during a round.

Edits.
ATOMIC ALTERATION
An eEnemiesy haves -1 Defense for each of Atom Eve’s Transmutation Markers on its card. If an enemy receives 1+ wounds from an attack, remove all of Atom Eve’s Transmutation Markers from its card.
For pasteability.

Re: Atom Eve - Design

I also playtested her at Con and felt she was pretty spot on. I love how she turn bonds now. Missed the healing a little, but the bonding was much better. Overall, I think she is pretty perfect for early story Eve.

Re: Atom Eve - Design

Hah I have no memory of this. I also missed an entire day of sleep at the con sooo.....

She doesn't start with the markers, no. She has to generate them to put them on her card/enemy cards.

Re: Atom Eve - Design

Cool. Looks like she can pull them from her card or the Ether to put on an enemy. Seems fine to me though.

Re: Atom Eve - Design

I feel like she should start with them, unless I read it wrong that creating them and placing them was an either/or decision? If she can generate and place on the same turn, then A) I played her incorrectly, and B) she is much better than I thought! If not, I would suggest she gets to start with some, though bonding now allows her to fill up on by the end of round 1, I suppose.

Re: Atom Eve - Design

1. She does not start with them on her card, so if someone read it that way, you read it wrong, sorry :)
2. She's allowed to place them either on her card or the card of an enemy. That's the extent of the "generation". No extra steps.
3. She's felt really balanced and fun as-is to me.

Sounds like you may have played her incorrectly?

Re: Atom Eve - Design

Only slightly, but as a major disadvantage to her. She'd be much better than I played her. I was generating to put on her card, then moving them on another turn. The intended play feels MUCH better. TLDR, I was using one turn to generate a marker, and a second to place it on an enemy.
I already thought she felt better with the bonding, now I am confident that she will feel worth her points!

Re: Atom Eve - Design

Yeah she can use the defense subtraction in the same turn to attack. I wanted to her play a lot more streamlined than the old version.

Re: Atom Eve - Vote for testing

This passes, just gotta wait for Master Asia to clear.

Re: Atom Eve - Waiting for testing

I jumped ahead and got a playtest in with her as I want to get the starter stuff completed. Real happy with where she is at.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: She feels good at 200 pts. I used all her powers. Game 1 was a blowout but I felt like I got a good read on what she can do. In that game I used her in a more offensive manner, placing markers on enemies for lowering defense. In Game 2 I used her more defensively, which I think may be the better use for her, it definitely helped keep wounds off of her teammates. I'm looking forward to seeing more Guardians of the Globe units designed to work with her.

Re: Atom Eve - Waiting for testing

Sweet thanks! I think the only thing I'd like to see at this point is a game or two outside of the Invincible trio. I think she'd be a solid JL support piece as well.

I'd agree with that.
