AotV Books of Index and Status Reports

Welcome to Arena of the Valkyrie, the community-driven Master Set project! Below is a list of all of the current threads for units that our pod members are making, along with the status of each design.

Whenever a unit moves to a new stage of development (such as to Testing or Art), I'll make a quick post here announcing the change. If you want to help the project but aren't a pod member, then please feel free to post playtests directly to any thread currently in the Testing stage. The intent is for this thread to serve as an easily approachable index to all of our units.

If you're interested in learning more, please check out our introductory thread right here!

ALPHABETICAL LISTING

GLYPHS AND DESTRUCTIBLE OBJECTS

As more units progress towards a finalized state, listings by points, general, and planet will be added as well, for the sake of completion. I hope that everyone knows that a listing by Set and Pack is unnecessary when every unit is a part of the same Master Set. :p

Here's the units divided up by the pods working on them. Remember, we do welcome outside feedback on these units during development, but the final say ultimately goes to the pod working on them, and they are in charge of that design.

This is going to be very convienent!

That's the goal! :)

For archival purposes, here's the Project Snapshot from 8/4/19:

I just skimmed through everything that we have in the pipeline currently to get a quick update on it all. Nothing's finalized yet, but it should be useful to get an idea of the different ideas being tossed around, especially in terms of seeing what kinds of holes we might need to keep an eye out to fill in the future.

Here's a quick overview of where the project is at right now:

Pod 0 Units:
:valkrill: Eldrazi Ruiner - Design
The design has a direction and we're just working out the name and traits before passing him on.
He currently has a multi-targeting Special Attack and the capability to pull in figures closer to him.
Statline: 8 Life, 5 Move, 1 Range, 6 Attack, 4 Defense, roughly 200 points

:vydar: Jace Beleren - Design
We just need to settle the name at this point. Tetsuo Tyrell? Jydel Gibson? Who will win? Tune in next week to find out.
The design has a form of Mind Control against Unique Heroes and a self-wounding power to boost his own attack.
Statline: 6 Life, 5 Move, 4 Range, 3 Attack, 2 Defense, roughly 100 points

:vydar: Leyline Phantoms - Design
There are still a couple of directions that we're debating.
There's a consensus for some kind of limited teleport and a defensive power (leaning towards anti-range of some sort).
We've already got some ideas for the statline, but that might change based on the final powerset we settle on.

:jandar: Honored Soul-Guides - Design
The design is aiming to briefly let you bring back your Unique Heroes that die near them for one last turn.
Also has Stealth Flying.
Statline: 2 Figures, 5 Move, 1 Range, 2 Attack, 4 Defense, roughly 50 points

Pod 1 Units:
:jandar: Gideon Jura - Design
The direction is towards a defender type of a unit that can pull opponents in and divert their attention.
Statline: 6 Life, 5 Move, 1 Range, 3 Attack, 4 Defense

:utgar: Chandra Nalaar - Design
The design seems like it'll be focused on an offensive Special Attack similar to Mimring's Fireline.
Statline: 6 Life, 5 Move, 7 Range, 3 Attack, 2 Defense

:utgar: Ob Nixilus - Design
The impression that I got was that there is not yet a complete consensus, but I saw indication of a negative aura and a negative "Viking Spirit."
I'd be surprised if this doesn't have flying.

:utgar: Ukushia Pride - Design
The consensus seems to be to use one of the sets of markers from Shadows Over Innistrad for limited offensive boosts to the squad, along with a negative water power.
Statline: 3 Figures, 6 Move, 1 Range, 3 Attack, 5 Defense

Glyphs:
Glyph of Recall - Testing
Revives a previously destroyed squad figure.
Glyph of Knowledge - Testing
Before rolling for initiative, you can look at a random Order Marker from each opponent.

Terrain/Scenarios:
We're still discussing the overall setting for AotV, but early consensus seems to be pointing towards the Sea of Sand. The Cryptolith Destructible Object design is pretty solid at this point, but we need to settle some more of the story before giving it a proper name.

Scenarios won't be entering the design stage until we have some more units nearing completion and a firmer grasp on the overall setting.

WE should mark which pod the units are from in the list.

I forgot to respond to this earlier, but I've added a list of the pods and their units in the second post of this thread. The alphabetical list was kept in the main post because as the project progresses it'll be a nice way to keep track of all of our units and transition into the main Index format (and I didn't want to clutter that section too much), but I agree that listing the designs by pod is useful for the development process.

Re: AotV Project Snapshot 2/1/2020

It's been a while since the last project snapshot. Here's a quick overview of where we're at as of 2/1/2020:

---

Pod 0 Units:
:jandar: Honored Soul-Guides - Editing
This design lets you bring back your destroyed small/medium Unique Heroes for one last turn.
Also has Stealth Flying.
They're currently the only unit that falls below the ~100 point range.
Statline: 2 Figures, 5 Move, 1 Range, 2 Attack, 4 Defense, 50 points

:valkrill: Ozuul - Editing
Ozuul's focused on pulling in figures next to him and hitting everything adjacent with a heavy Special Attack. We're just ironing out some kinks with power names right now before another Editing pass.
He's the only unit in the ~200 point range currently, and is the "big bad" of the set.
Statline: 8 Life, 5 Move, 1 Range, 6 Attack, 4 Defense, 190 points

:vydar: Tetsuo Tyrell - Testing
He's a high-risk, high-reward character that has to get in close despite being very squishy. On a successful wound, he gets a chance at Mind Controlling an opposing hero. He can self-inflict a wound to increase his attack and boost his chances.
Statline: 6 Life, 5 Move, 4 Range, 3 Attack, 2 Defense, 100 points

:vydar: Velnesh Alphas - Editing
They're focused on teleporting and mobility. One of the primary concerns currently is that their methods of teleportation might be too overwhelming for a newcomer; we're hoping to settle this before moving them on to Testing.
They're geared towards a tricky/offensive playstyle currently.
Statline: 3 Figures, 4 Move, 1 Range, 4 Attack, 4 Defense, 100 Points

Pod 1 Units:
:utgar: Atrixus - Editing
He's a demon with a negative defense aura to nearby opponents; it penalizes figures with a higher defense more. When killed, he has a Spirit effect to permanently reduce 2 from the defense of a Unique Army Card.
He also has Flying.
This is the main "cheerleader" unit in the set currently.
Statline: 5 Life, 6 Move, 1 Range, 3 Attack, 3 Defense, 145 Points

:jandar: Dienekes - Editing
Combat Challenge forces engaged opponents to target Dienekes. He can also pull in figures that end their movement within 3 spaces of him on a lucky roll.
He's the only "defender" type of unit currently.
Statline: 6 Life, 5 Move, 1 Range, 3 Attack, 4 Defense, 90 Points

:utgar: Pyria - Testing
Pyria has a dual-Fireline Special Attack that can target two lines of 3 spaces. She also has a solid ranged normal attack.
She's dedicated to dealing damage currently.
Statline: 6 Life, 5 Move, 7 Range, 3 Attack, 2 Defense, 120 Points

:utgar: Ukushia Pride - Design
After the previous iteration with Blaze Markers wasn't presenting interesting decisions, they have moved back to Design to tweak the direction.
The statline is likely prone to change depending on the final direction, but it will likely feature a high movement and some way to boost the attack.

---

Glyphs:
Glyph of Healing - Design
Removes one wound from each friendly hero. Temporary Glyph.
Glyph of Knowledge - Testing
Before rolling for initiative, you can look at a random Order Marker from each opponent. Permanent Glyph.
Glyph of Recall - Testing
Revives a previously destroyed squad figure. Temporary Glyph.

Terrain/Scenarios:
The consensus seems to be in favor of setting AotV in the Sea of Sand, but few other details about the surrounding story have been set. The Pillars of Hár Destructible Objects are pretty solid at this point: they are essentially risky towers for ranged figures that can be destroyed.

Scenarios won't be entering the design stage until we have some more units nearing completion and a firmer grasp on the overall setting.

---

Summary:
We've been making good progress on all of these units. Once they're finished in Editing, we'll want to get in lots of Testing to move them along.

We noticeably only have one unit that is currently under the ~100 point range, and it is based on maximizing the value out of more expensive heroes. This is something to keep in mind as future units enter Design.

The distribution of units amongst the generals is below. This spread isn't concerning because we have plenty of other units coming in the pipeline.
:utgar:=3, :vydar:=2, :jandar:=2, :valkrill:=1

That's all for now. Let's keep up the good work, guys!

Re: AotV Project Snapshot 2/1/2020

I've been waiting for a project like this one to come along! i picked up this set not too long ago and have been racking my brain on making some customs out of them but haven't gotten far. Nice work with everything I'm seeing here. I can definitely try to help you guys out with some playtesting as things move along.

Welcome! We'd definitely appreciate help with the playtesting! In case you don't want to see the full list of units and their progress, here's a link to the Playtesting Thread, which contains an index to everything currently being tested.

Sorry if I missed this somewhere but once they are ready to play, what will the status be?

Sounds good, I'd love to break out my AotP box! It's been collecting dust for too long.
