I have spent the last 4 or so years creating custom creatures, spells, and additional rules for Arena of the Planeswalkers.
First I created artifacts. Artifacts are temporary, permanent or equipment glyph spells that go in your library that you and your opponents can use to give you an advantage against your enemies. Only heroes can use temporary or permanent artifact glyphs. Only nonevent heroes may use Equipment artifact glyphs (more on event heroes later). I used the C3G communities rules when it comes to using equipment artifacts.
Next I created enchantment glyph spells. Unlike Aura enchantment spells, Planeswalkers may cast them within 5 clear sight spaces of them. All figures from a players army may use enchantment glyphs. Some enchantment glyphs are permanent, and some are temporary.
I used the glyphs that came with the original Arena of the Planeswalkers game to 3D print all five colors of mana and grey for colorless glyphs for artifacts and enchantment glyphs with the Planeswalker symbol on the backs for authenticity.
Lastly, I added land to AOTP. Yes land! Players may add basic land for 10 points to their library or regular land for 15 -25 points depending on its rarity. Once per turn a player may put a land into play off the battlefield and tap it to add mana to their mana pool until the end of the round (3 turns). Some spells and creatures have mana abilities that allow them to use mana in your mana pool to use them when activated or triggered for effects. Have no mana in your mana pool? You can always discard cards in your hand if you have none or not enough. All players can use cards in their hand to activate mana abilities, even if their Planeswalkers are killed.
I used a lot of Magic the Gathering miniatures from Wizkids for my custom figures. I created many new Planeswalkers using Magic Gathering Planeswalker cards for the abilities and studied the Planeswalkers that came with the game for cost and play tested them.
Since I have a lot of Dungeons & Dragons miniatures and Magic the Gathering included it in their multiverse now I have created virtually hundreds of custom miniatures From Event, Unique and Common heroes and sqauds for the game. Event heroes or sqauds are mythic rare creatures or squads and there may only be one in any army for that game. I used the event hero rules from the C3G community to add this new breed of hero to Arena of the Planeswalkers for fun.
I won't begin to tell you all the abilities for Magic the Gathering I have converted for Arena of the Planeswalkers but, they have been play tested and are fairly balanced.
This game has truly evolved into something I never would have guessed and is super fun to play with expansions to the game. I wish some of you hard core Arena of the Planeswalker fans lived in or around the Las Vegas Nevada area if you ever want to try out this custom Arena of the Planeswalkers game I've been developing for years.
