The Book of Jotun

The Book of Jotun
Raknar's Vision - "Heroes of Lindesfarme"

Spoiler Alert!
If you cannot see the Army Card graphic, check Hasbro's Unit Page for stats and special powers, plus "character biography" and other non-game unit info.

Character Bio: "Halgo, Demicus!" Jotun called, as the many barbarians of the forest planet, Feylund, finally blanketed him with enough ropes to pull him to the ground. Never before had the colossal giant been in fear for his life. "Brothers, save me!" Jotun cried out, as one of the ruthless barbarians climbed to Jotun’s chest and raised his spear skyward to finish their evil task. But fate intervened just in time as Ullar summoned Jotun to his cause, thereby forever placing the mighty giant in his debt. (Hasbro)

-Rulings and Clarifications-
  • - WILD SWING : Targeting Self
Can Jotun target himself with his Wild Swing Special Attack?
No, a figure cannot target itself for any attack unless specifically stated on the card. (Hasbro FAQ)

    - THROW 14 : Throwing Damage vs. Falling Damage
Are figures that are thrown subject to Falling damage?
No, throwing damage includes falling damage. You do not have to roll for falling damage separately. (Hasbro FAQ)

    - THROW 14 : Affects of Terrain
Do Slippery Ice or Heavy Snow tiles limit the distance you can throw a figure?
No. Just count each space as one space. (Hasbro FAQ)

    - THROW 14 : Throwing Above “the Height of Jotun”
What does “the height of Jotun” mean?
The "height of Jotun" is the level Jotun is on, plus his height of 10. For example, if Jotun were standing on the first level, he would need to toss someone up above level 11 (or on the top of level 11) in order to negate any throwing damage. (Hasbro FAQ)

    - THROW 14 : “Non-Flying” Figures
Jotun can only throw “non-flying” figures. If the wind glyph is in play and activated, or if Morsbane has negated the figure’s special powers, and figure cannot fly, are they considered “non-flying” figures and can Jotun throw them?
Yes on both counts. Flying figures are considered non-flying once the wind glyph is activated. When Morsbane negates a figure’s flying ability, they are also considered “non-flying.” (Hasbro FAQ)

-Combinations and Synergies-

Synergy Benefits Received

As a unit that follows Ullar, Jotun may benefit from Acolarh's ULLAR'S AMULET movement bonus.

Synergy Benefits Offered
  • - N/A
C3V and SoV Custom Synergies

Garet Jaxx is a puppet of Ne-Gok-Sa
I always use Jotun to wipe out dragons because he has enough life to get there and his attack is very effective.
Also use him to throw people over water. (duh, I know)

I never thought of that!

That's not a "duh" to me.
I never thought of doing that.
That's a really good way of putting a figure out of the fight for a while.
Neat!

This guy is a monster. I never knew how deadly he was until just now, when I first saw his card. Eight dice for one attack, and then you get that frickin' ridiculous attack that hits everyone around your target, too? So. Much. Death. How the Hell are you supposed to stop this guy? Well, obviously, range attacks, but the guy has the most powerful range attack you could ask for! He can throw a swinging Drake, Carr, or get the Krav Maga up to high ground. Truly a deadly piece. Worth every ridiculous point.

Jotun's Wild Swing is simply devastating on a Zombie horde.

His normal attack is 8, But his wild swing special attack only has an attack of 4.

Question: Can you throw your own units? If so then can you throw one of your own characters out of Q9's grip or say throw them over water (I know they may be damaged)

yes, yes, and yes.
yes, you may throw your own units - one of the best ways to use this is by throwing slow moving ranged figures up to height (where you don't have to worry about them taking throwing damage).
yes you may throw a figure engaged by an enemy figure without taking any leaving engagement attacks (as it says on the card). I think you may have intended to ask about Major X17 here instead of Q9 though ... if I'm right I'll clarify that one too. X17 (as well as the gladitrons) have the cyberclaw power, which cannot be circumvented by any special power on any card, including throw. Meaning if a friendly figure is locked down by cyberclaw, there's no throwing them out of it.
Finally, yes you can throw them over water, but I'm not sure I'd risk the damage. Why not just throw them to the very edge of a large body of water so they don't take damage and then let them climb out of it on their next activation?

I believe, although there has been, I think, no official ruling on this, that you can, indeed, throw a Gladitron who is cyberclawing someone else, but the other person does not go with the thrown Gladitron.

Well, Jotun is now my ultimate waepon against zombies!

Yesterday I was using an Ullar based army (2x Elf archers, 2x Venoc Vipers, Morsbane, Syvarris, Jotun, Venoc Warlord, Armoc Vipers, E.O. Vipers, and James Murphy helped round out my 1000 point army). My opponent was using mostly Utgar (2x wolves, Khosumet, Dumutef, 4x Zombies) then he threw in 2x Samurai Archers, Blastatrons, Gladitrons, and Nilfheim.

We played on the Road to FF map. Long stroy short - Jotun took out all but 2 zombies (who were eliminated by my Armocs after I sent Jotun to deal with a band of wolves and khosumet). The zombies fell to the wild swing with ease and that usually kept them from attacking in mass. The samurai archers did more damage to him than the zombies.
