WAR OF THE GREAT WELLSPRING

Here is a little campaign scenario originally created by myself, but now includes some revisions and suggestions by Satyr & Alastair MacDirk.
Any feedback and considerations are welcomed. We will be using this scenario on 2/24/07. Here is the thread that will include the results of the campaign:http://www.heroscapers.com/community...ead.php?t=5881

WAR OF THE GREAT WELLSPRING
An Epic Heroscape Campaign

The Conflict is between: The Utgar-Vydar Empire and the Free Vahallian Alliance of Jandar, Ullar, and Einar. The Campaign will consist of 4 Waves of battle during which players will battle simultaneously for territory. Each battle consists of 2 player maps. Each player will play a total of 4 battles. After 4 Waves of Battle, Victory will be determined based on the following conditions:

TEAM OBJECTIVES: Determine Victory after the 4th Wave of Battles.
-Jandar/Ullar/Einar Alliance
Prime Objective: control both Utgar/Vydar castles and the Wellspring.
Secondary Objective: 12 Territory Points including the Wellspring territory.

-Utgar/Vydar Empire
Prime Objective: control 1 Jandar/Ullar castles and the Wellspring.
Secondary Objective: 12 Territory Points.

MAPS and LAYOUT
Players may only attack a castle if their team has control of the adjacent basic territory. A faction symbol on the layout below represents a castle controlled by that faction. Basic territories (lava, snow, forest, and desert) may be attacked from any other basic territory. Each territory is worth a number of Territory Points as shown below.

Utgar Castle

DETERMINING ARMIES
-Both teams need to designate a captain, by vote or die roll.
-The following will determine the army pool each player will use for their personal army for their first 2 battles.

4 players (2 teams):
Utgar-Vydar
= 1 player controls Utgar
= 1 player controls Vydar

Free Alliance
= 1 player controls Jandar
= 1 player controls Ullar or Einar
= both players split the remaining army
(Ullar or Einar)

6 players (2 teams):

Utgar-Vydar
= 2 players split Utgar by a draft
= 1 player controls Vydar

Free Alliance
= 1 player controls Jandar
= 1 player controls Ullar
= 1 player controls Einar

8 players (2 teams):

Utgar-Vydar
(Each player drafts 2000 pts for their army pool for the entire campaign)
= 2 Utgar only players.
= 1 Vydar only player.
= 1 Utager/Vydar mixed player.

Free Alliance
(Each player drafts 2000 pts for their army pool for the entire campaign)
= 1 player Jandar only player
= 1 player Ullar only player
= 1 Einar only player
= 1 Jandar/Ullar/Einar mixed player

BATTLES
-500 pt non-castle map battles.
-400(castle) vs. 600(attacking castle) castle map battles.
-400 vs. 400 when battling for the Wellspring.

ELIMINATING UNIQUE HEROES AND SQUADS
-When a unique hero or unique squad is eliminated from a battle, it is eliminated from the remainder of the campaign—unless re-summoned by the controlling player, between battles.

DIMINISHING COMMONS
- Each common unit has a total of five cards at the beginning of the campaign. When all of the figures of a common army card are destroyed in battle, that card is deducted from the total number of common cards available for that specific common unit.

RE-SUMMONING
-Each player has 200 re-summoning points per campaign/war (wave of battles), not after each wave of battles. In order to re-summon an army card, in between battles, a player deducts summoning points equal to the cards point value.

LASTING SPIRITS, BETRAYALS, AND MINDSHACKLES
-When a hero’s “Spirit” special ability is placed on an army card, the army keeps the “spirit” until either the unit is destroyed, or the hero who grants the “spirit” is re-summoned. When a hero betrays his army and goes to another faction, he remains in new faction’s army pool until he is destroyed or betrays. All figures that are mindshackled or experience “soul-devour” are retained and added to the army pool of the mindshackler or soul-devourer, until the figures are destroyed in a battle.

PRE-MADE ARMIES
-Before the game, all players should have pre-select 500 pts of "core" army cards from their army pool.

CORE ARMY
This is a player's base army of which all "surviving" army cards MUST continue on to the next battle (with the exception of battles for castles and the wellspring). Once a army has been recruited, it is considered part of the core.

[b]FILLING THE RANKS[b] - After the first Wave of Battles (15 minute time limit)
-After each battle, a player will be able to replace any army cards (units) that were eliminated from play. Players may only choose army cards (units) from their personal army pool for the first Wave of Battles.

FILLING THE RANKS - After the second Wave of Battles (15 minute time limit)
-After each battle, a player will be able to replace any army cards (units) that were eliminated from play. Players may choose army cards (units) from their personal and an ally’s army pool after the second and third Wave of Battles.

COMMON ARMY POOL
The amount of common cards available to a player has in their army pool varies on the cost of the common. Refer to the table below for army card limits:

[u]Point Cost/u] = War Supply
25-40...................8 army cards
45-60...................6 army cards
65-140..................5 army cards
*exceptions may occur based on unit availability

DECLARING BATTLES (Each Wave of Battles has a 45 minute time limit)
-For the first Wave of Battles, the Utgar/Vydar Empire declare the first 2 battles. After the battles have been declared, the Free Alliance decide which Alliance players will defend the 1st and 2nd battles declared. Then, the Alliance declares the 3rd and 4th battles, and in-turn the Utgar/Vydar Empire assign players to defend against the 3rd and 4th battles declared. The first wave of battles may only be on the basic terrain maps (desert, forest, snow, lava).
-After the first Wave of Battles, “Morale” will determine which team will begin the declaration of battles for the next Wave of Battles. The team with the highest morale will declare the first two battles of the next Wave of Battles.

MORALE: Each team will measure their overall morale, by combining the individual results of their team members. If there is a tie in Morale between the 2 teams, roll 1 20-sided die per team, the highest result provides the highest morale. Morale does not roll over from Wave of Battles to the next Wave of Battles. Once battles begin, the morale of each team is reset to 0 pts. Morale does not impact the overall victory conditions of the War. Victory conditions are still tallied by territories controlled.

Battle Won = 3 Morale pts. The player with the highest amount of surviving army points.
Battle Tie = 2 Morale pts. Both players have the equal amount of surviving army points.
Battle Loss = 1 morale pt. The player with the least amount of surviving army points, including 0 pts.
Retreat = -1 morale pt. When a player decides to retreat any figures off of the battlefield before the battle or time limit is over.

BENEFIT OF DECLARING BATTLES: A player that declares a battle automatically has the highest initiative for the first 2 rounds of the battle. Also, the player who declared the battle receives 1 free turn prior to the 1st turn during the first round.

VICTORY: The overall victory of the war is calculated 1st by determining if either team met their Prime Objective. The team that captures the required castles and the Wellspring wins the war. If neither team has completed their Prime Objective, then calculate the Secondary Objective. If the Secondary Objective is also a tie, then calculated total point differentials for each team, then team with the highest value wins.

nice ideas! if I had enough land, I'd try a campaign, but not yet. my best friend is supposed to be getting a couple of master sets, so when he gets those, we will build a huge map.

This looks nice. Too bad I do not own any of it.

Screaming Eagle, heroscaper2.0, Chimpy, and DarkDino thanks for the feedback! I will be posting results of this campaign and how well the maps played after the event next weekend.

-I will also be including labeled elevations for these maps. I have posted some of these in page 3 of the Valleydwellers II thread.

This campaign has taken some time to develop, but it looks like it will be really fun for everyone. Just drafting the armies, and discussing it with our team-mates has been cool, so far.

To make all of the maps, about 6-7 hours...including separating tiles by color/type.

Cost?
-5 Master Sets
-6 Road sets
-5 Snow sets
-5 Lava sets
-5 Castle sets.

About $600...over 2 years.

The event went well. The campaign went well too. There are some small tweaks, but for the most part it worked. Some pictures and battle reports are posted...more will be up in the next few days. See p.5 of this link for details:
