Using Bats original conversion as a starting point. I know there was talk of changing some of the powers here.

Any place where it says enemy figure or opponent's figure could just be enemy.

I would definitely love to see a different direction for the middle ability.

I do think we need to avoid making spellecasting a major element though, since this set includes 0 spells.

You could borrow Sorcerer Supreme off my Wong design if you want.
SORCERER SUPREME
After revealing an Order Marker on Wong and taking a turn with him, during which he cast a Spell, you may take a turn with any other Unique Sorcerer you control. You may not take any additional turns with figures you control.

Fair question: Is he the best fit for the Starter Deck in that case?

That's a good question. Thematically he feels like he should be but not being able to have spells available to cast may make him more of a future candidate.

To me, I do want a Strange that’s not factional (Avengers), funky (Secret Defenders), or tied to an auxillary mechanic like spells. I think this Strange fits that bill, he just needs a few tweaks.

The 1.0 mechanic of just no-selling a certain swathe of figures was definitely unfun, so we should probably move away from that. But I think there are plenty of directions we could take that would feel useful?

Like we could keep some of the original MD counter feel around:

If an ally inflicts a wound on a figure within 4 clear spaces pf Doctor Strange, you may inflict an additional wound on that figure.

Or we could showcase some 2.0 stuff?

At the start of the turn, you may negate the symbol abilities pf all enemies that are currently within 4 clear spaces of Doctor Strange until the end of the turn.

Hmm…to clarify, I meant “a version that isn’t explicitly tied to the Avengers factional mechanics” not that this Doctor Strange shouldn’t have the Avengers tag. He’s a big name character and I’d like to have that “standalone” version of him like we do for most iconic heroes.

I don’t think Avengers is the most correct faction for Strange as a whole, but it probably works for our gameplay purposes? Like Strange isn’t a character with a mega load of Avenging on his resume, but it’s not like we have a solid Midnight Sons or Defenders faction to drop him in.

If we were to drop the Avenger tag (which isn’t what I was originally proposing), I might suggest just leaving him factionless so Cap and Tony have something to recruit?

Fwiw, Defenders faction feels a lot more viable with faction tags a thing.

I'd be more into additional wounds stuff than negation stuff of any stripe.
