C3G Skyscraper Special Rules and Set Up

C3G skyscrapers are interior access structures and follow the C3G Building Rules.

The skyscrapers have four sides and are usable for exterior and interior play. Each skyscraper has two open, playable sides, and two solid sides.

Only single and double spaced figures up to 14 levels or less in height may enter or occupy the skyscraper.

On each of its playable sides, each floor of a skyscraper features several half hex spaces, which are used for windows and doorways. Any half hex on the skyscraper’s playable side that is uncovered is considered a window space.

Doorways may be placed as the players desire, so long as they fit normally on the map. A typical skyscraper build might feature one doorway on each side of the ground level, allowing movement between the interior of the building and its exterior.

Each individual stackable structure is considered one skyscraper unit. These units can be combined by stacking them two or more high, or they can be played individually, as single unit high buildings. Each skyscraper unit is two floors high.

Figures can traverse between floors of a skyscraper via stairways and elevators, following rules outlined in the C3G Building Rules. Stairway hexes used for traveling from one floor of the skyscraper to the next should have a transit number of 3.

Hey guys! Apologies for cluttering up multiple threads with this, but I'm pretty excited about the idea of using bookshelves for skyscrapers. Here's the shelf I'm currently looking at.



It's roughly a foot cubed (not a perfect cube) and if it's anything like the cube I have, it'd fit 6x7 hexes on the interior.

Roughly 20 bucks, easy to assemble (see the video in the link) and you could buy more and stack them, so it's modular on a 2 story basis. The plan would be to leave the backing step out of assembly in order to let players reach in from two sides.

Major things I can think of that would need figuring out (please post additions and I'll update the OP):

1. Interior travel (elevator, turbo lift, stairs, what have you)
2. Interior design (any decoration of walls, etc.)
3. Furniture?
4. Hexes (stencils? Paint? Print Out?)
5. Doors and windows (Should they be included? If so, where? What mechanics? Shooting/moving through them?)
6. Exterior decorations
7. Exterior additions (fire escape, window perches, etc.)
8. Base (restrictions/plan for putting it down on a map)

Based on my measurements, you're looking at a 39 hex playable area inside and 44 hex playable area on the roof.

It's 7 hexes wide inside with alternating columns of 6, 5, 6, 5, 6, 5, 6 in depth. The roof adds room for another 5 hex column.

I figure about two hexes for the elevator shaft could work. If we don't want to cut, we could always just color that spot black. Not cutting an actual elevator shaft might be for the best, because otherwise if you wanted to stack multiples of these, you'd have to have that shaft in the roofs and floors of each you wanted to stack below the highest level. That does not seem ideal.

Based on my calculations, each Block would be about 27 levels high (so if you have two of them stacked, that's 54 levels, and if you have three stacked, that's 81 levels).

Each interior section in a block, since they're divided in half, I'm approximating at about 11 levels, so theoretically you could fit up to Surtur and Groot (if their heights of 10 are accurate) but Satannus at 12 would be too big (no dinos in the lobby). Of course, if you want to have a massive, open lobby, nothing's to stop you from getting a cube without the middle shelf for your bottom level.

Definitely need some interior furniture or walls or something. What you do depends on the theme you want to go with. Desks and cubicles for a generic office building. Lab equipment for a more specific pharmaceutical company. You could make it a department store with rows of tvs, refrigerators, clothing racks, etc.

An open hole (square) in the ground of each level directly above each other, walls on 3 sides around the hole with a door facing out into the room on the 4th wall, then a ladder running from top to bottom and a Turbo-Lift DO will give you the elevator you want. The Turbo Lift works the same mechanically as an elevator, then the ladder allows other units to fly/swing line up the elevator shaft as well. If you put 3 or 4 elevator shafts in a row then you can move multiple figures up and down between the floors, although a turbo lift that held 4 figures at once would be cool too. Just would need to make your own custom ladders as that is too many ladder pieces to glue permanently onto a building.

Well, I ordered three of them, so we'll see where it goes from here!

Yodaking's post did have me thinking that if you cut every level for the elevators, that could just mean having roof access via elevator with the top level. I'm back to wanting to cut, I think.

You could start with a hole saw and then square it up with a sharp chisel or maybe a coping saw.

Also, what do folks think for floor decorations? I'd love to get something I could just print out for the floors. Give me a second here and I'll post pics of what we can expect for interior and exterior room.

OK, the red taped off area is the internal measurements of the structure and the green taped off area is the external measurements (so could be used for the rooftop hex layout).



The second picture has those two black shadow spaces to represent where an elevator shaft could be cut in. Should I go for four wide instead of two wide? Or does that take up too much space?



Here's the rooftop representation. You basically get five extra hexes (though some of those would have to be taken up by a rooftop access area for the elevator. There's enough wiggle room up there for quite a few partial hexes if that's appealing.
