The Book of Shimmer
The Book of Shimmer C3G DC WAVE 31 YEAR OF THE VILLAIN ![]() Comic PDF ![]() Mini PDF The figure used for this unit is a Heroclix figure from the Teen Titans set. Its model number and name are #029 / Shimmer. _________________________________________________________________ Character Bio - Selinda Flinders and her brother Baran Flinders are natives of Australia. They were teased by their fellow classmates for being different. As children, they both used their powers to fight their tormentors. Because of this, they were driven out of town by the angry and frightened parents. As Shimmer, Selinda was one of the founding members of the Fearsome Five, which she joined after answering an advert placed in the Underworld Star by Doctor Light. Shimmer and the Fearsome Five fought with the Teen Titans on numerous occasions, as well as Superman, but never successfully. Shimmer eventually renounced her criminal life and retired, along with Baran, to a Tibetan monastery. However, her peaceful existence ended when her former teammate Psimon tracked her down. Using his psychic powers, Psimon turned Shimmer's body into glass and shattered it. _________________________________________________________________ -Rulings and Clarifications-

NAME = SHIMMER
SECRET IDENTITY = SELINDA FLINDERS SPECIES = METAHUMAN UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO CLASS = MISFIT PERSONALITY = FEARSOME SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5 LIFE = 4 MOVE = 5 RANGE = 3 ATTACK = 4 DEFENSE = 3 POINTS = 120 ELEMENTAL TRANSMUTATION 3 Instead of taking a turn with Shimmer, you may roll 3 combat dice. For each shield you roll, place a Wound Marker on the Army Card of a figure adjacent to Shimmer. DIRECTING THE RAGE When you roll attack dice for Mammoth's normal attack, if he is in clear sight of Shimmer, for each blank rolled, roll 1 additional attack die. Continue rolling additional attack dice for each additional blank rolled until no blanks are rolled. FLYING Not much to her...she transmutes things. Not on a powerful level like Firestorm or anything like that though with only about a 3 foot range. Her main use is to control her brother. @Karat @IAmBatman @Viegon @TrollBrute @SirGalahad @johnny139 Would I want it to be everything I love...sure...but that's just not realistic so I'm going to focus on finding things that will make me unhappy and work on fixing those. Re: The Book of Shimmer (Design Phase)
Like her brother, I don't know the character at all, but I like the design. Elemental Transmutation is cool.
However, Controlling the Rage seems too strong. Without the blank drawback, Mammoth will be devastating when boosted. I recommend adding some sort of limitation to it; maybe require an "X" reveal? Or make it so she needs to be adjacent to her brother.

Re: The Book of Shimmer (Design Phase)
That would go against the Brotherly protection power he has since you wouldn't have to worry about the LEA that he is forced to take to protect her.
I could see putting a restriction to a certain number of spaces instead of just having it Clear Sight. Would I want it to be everything I love...sure...but that's just not realistic so I'm going to focus on finding things that will make me unhappy and work on fixing those. |

I do worry that their cross-synergy, while cool, could be too strong. She'll take away his major weakness, and he'll protect her from being destroyed. And with 6 Life/6 Defense, it will take a lot to take him down. Maybe his power should be changed from 'blank' to 'shield'? It would still give it a lot of potential, and her power would see more use, but there are plenty of times when he would roll 2 or more shields. Re: The Book of Shimmer (Design Phase)
That's why I didn't want to restrict it to adjacent because I don't want to encourage that and I also think it make him less useful for Psimon. The Shield is an idea that I thought about it but I know Johnny for one liked the blank aspect as it fit the theme of coming up empty on the swing.

I'm Back
Here's what Shimmer does to Mammoth. Okay so to recap from the Mammoth thread. The number of skulls counted given that you rolled s skulls on d die is (1/2)^d*dCs*(2/3)^(d-s). Now how many blanks did you roll once you've rolled s skulls? That's not really important. What we want is to know how many times you roll exactly one blank when you roll s skulls. So you roll d-s non-skulls. There is a 2/3 probability that you rolled a shield and a 1/3 probability you rolled a blank. So the odds of rolling exactly one blank given s skulls is (1/3)*(2/3)^(d-s-1)*(d-s). Those are the rolls that Shimmer helps Mammoth out on.
Without Shimmer, Mammoth's base attack expects you to count about 3.16 skulls. With Shimmer he bumps up to 3.50 skulls. With a +1 bonus, he expects 3.71 skulls normally. With Shimmer he bumps up to 4.25 skulls. With a +2 bonus, he expects 4.21 skulls normally. With Shimmer, he bumps up to 4.96 skulls. So typically Shimmer is worth from about 0.7-1.5 extra dice for Mammoth. ~Dysole, mathematically My Twitch Channel where I play Scape and other things My YouTube Channel where the games get uploaded later Dysole's Draft Rankings Map Thread (Not responsible for psychic damage) Customs Battle Reports This sentence is seven words long. Re: The Book of Shimmer (Design Phase)
Yeah, that definitely seems like... marginally better than +1 attack to most figures.

Combo Breaker
Broken. Probably not. Really easy to undercost because you don't realize how powerful it is? Quite. I definitely think it's doable. I mean the easiest dial to turn is to drop Mammoth to 3 attack.
