Gladitrons + Blastrons Army Combination Discussion.

As talked about here we can tell the Galditrons Blastrons combination is a deadly one at that. So if you would remove the talked about figures in that army (Dund) what what you use, how so, and is it a good army combination for the Gladitrons and Blastrons. Lets get the ball rolling with some ideas for a

480 and 560 army.... or whatever you would like.

Re: Gladitrons + Blastrons Army Combination Discussion.

The two units I have most enjoyed playing with Glads/Blasts are Raelin and Q10. Raelin adds needed defense, esp. for the Blasts, and Q10 adds a special attack.

I also don't like to play with less than 2x of either Blasts or Glads; they seem to really stand out. If points allow, I'll generally take 3x each, before adding in other units.

So at 600 points, I might run:

Blasts x2 120
Glads x3 360
Raelin 440
Q10 590
Isamu 600

Or at 650 - take out Isamu and add in one more set of Blasts. Good times!

Re: Gladitrons + Blastrons Army Combination Discussion.

Obviously, multiples of both squads is nice.

3 squads of Glads seems to be the industry standard. If we take a cue from gamjuven's army at the Gencon main event, having a third squad of Glads is even better than having Raelin.

The worst matchup for 'trons are rats+krav+raelin, probably in that order. 4th Mass is a bit worrisome, too, as are the other WTF squads when fronted by rats, to a lesser degree.

Figures that play well alongside 'trons:
  • Raelin - #1 with a bullet.
  • Marcu - cyberclaw means that eternal hatred can't hurt as much.
  • Kumiko - too bad she stinks, but she works well with them.
  • KMA - a good answer to 4th Mass.
  • Kaemon - rat-killer or cleanup
  • Laglor - rat-killer and range enhancer
  • Q9/Q10 - rat-killer and 4th Mass counter.
  • Braxas - rat-killer and KMA counter.
Code:
360 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2
370 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Isamu
380 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Marcu
390 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Marcu + Isamu
400 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Marcu + Isamu + Otonashi
410 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Marro Warriors
420 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx3
430 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx3 + Isamu (drop a blast), or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Shotgun Sullivan
440 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin
450 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Isamu
460 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Marcu
470 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Marcu + Isamu
480 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Marcu + Isamu + Otonashi, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Theracus
490 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Marro Warriors (drop a Glad), or
      Gladsx2 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Kaemon Awa + Isamu
500 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx3 + Raelin (drop a blast)
510 - 500 army again, or Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Shotgun Sullivan
520 - Gladsx4 + Blastsx2 + Raelin (drop a Glad)
530 - 520 army again, or Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Kumiko + Isamu
540 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + KMA
550 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Laglor

590 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Q10
600 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Q10 + Isamu
610 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Q10 + Marcu

Re: Gladitrons + Blastrons Army Combination Discussion.

Some new options have arrived, courtesy of Wave D1.

First, the Drow Chainfighter is a handy filler hero, and you could even make an argument for an Air Elemental as Raelin's bodyguard. Any point level there that has Marcu + Isamu + Otonashi would support Marcu + DC for 5 points more, and Marcu + Air Elemental actually makes some sense at 490 (alongside Gladsx3, Blastsx2 and Raelin).

Secondly, the Fen Hydra does offer some potential against some bad matchups - most notably Braxas. You could put it in in place of Kaemon Awa in the 480-495 and 560-585 ranges.

Third, and perhaps most significantly, the Phantom Knights are a pretty strong counter to the 4th Mass and KMA, and they can hop rat screens to deal with other ranged threats. I very rarely suggest armies with more than 2 different common squads, but the following army really intrigues me:

80 Raelin RotV
160 Gladiatrons x2
120 Blastarons x2
140 Phantom Knights x2
500, 23 hexes

EDIT: oh what the heck, here's an update to the table. In light of the new figures that give the 'trons a bit of trouble, I'm wiping out all the "drop-a-figure" or "play light" armies that go 'tron crazy. This is probably overreacting to possible metagame shifts, but it's an interesting exercise.

EDIT 2: I realized my 530 solution was 25 hexes, so I suggested some cowboy/ninja options in that range. I also added Brunak as a possible alternative to Laglor in the 550-570 range, where he can carry Raelin around and give you some special attacks in the bargain. The 560 and 570 point armies now have four options, depending on whether you want to add Brunak, Laglor, Kaemon Awa, or the Fen Hydra to your Glad/Blast/Raelin core.

EDIT 3: In an edit that nobody will ever notice except me, I'm adding wyrmlings in the 500-530 range. I'm dropping Kumiko and James Murphy because it's hard to imagine preferring them to three wyrmlings in a blind tournament environment.

EDIT 4: Wohoo, more figures. I love editing this post. Eltahale is a pretty obvious add for the 'trons IMO because she can clear rats and jump behind the lines to assassinate dragons/Raelin/Grimnak. I'm not ready to put her up with Q10 at 590, but I like her a lot at 580. I also threw her in with the PKs at 640.

Code:
360 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2
370 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Isamu
380 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Marcu
390 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Marcu + Isamu
400 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Marcu + Isamu + Otonashi
405 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Marcu + Drow Chainfighter
410 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Marro Warriors
420 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx3, or
      Gladsx2 + Blastsx2 + PKx2
430 - Gladsx2 + Blastsx2 + PKx2 + Isamu
440 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin
450 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Isamu
460 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Marcu
470 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Marcu + Isamu, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Laglor
480 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Marcu + Isamu + Otonashi, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Kaemon Awa, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Laglor + Isamu
485 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Marcu + Drow Chainfighter
490 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Kaemon Awa + Isamu, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Laglor + Marcu, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Air Elemental + Marcu
500 - Gladsx2 + Blastsx2 + PKx2 + Raelin, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Red/Black wyrmlingx2
510 - Gladsx2 + Blastsx2 + PKx2 + Raelin + Isamu, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Red/Black wyrmlingx2 + Isamu
520 - Gladsx2 + Blastsx2 + PKx2 + Raelin + Marcu, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Red/Black wyrmlingx2 + Marcu
525 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Shotgun Sullivan + Marcu
530 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Red/Black wyrmlingx3
540 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + KMA
550 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Laglor, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Brunak
560 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Laglor + Isamu, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Brunak + Isamu, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Kaemon Awa, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Fen Hydra
570 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Laglor + Marcu, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Brunak + Marcu, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Kaemon Awa + Isamu, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Fen Hydra + Isamu
580 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Eltahale, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Kaemon Awa + Marcu, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Laglor + Marcu + Isamu,, or
      Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Fen Hydra + Marcu
590 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Q10
600 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Q10 + Isamu
610 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Q10 + Marcu
620 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Q9, or
      Gladsx2 + Blastsx2 + PKx2 + Raelin + Kaemon Awa
630 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Q9 + Isamu
640 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Q9 + Marcu, or
      Gladsx2 + Blastsx2 + PKx2 + Raelin + Eltahale
650 - Gladsx3 + Blastsx2 + Raelin + Braxas
I really dig the rhythm of how these armies progress as the points go up. PKs appear in a pocket from 420 to 430, then again from 500 to 530, then one last time at 620. Laglor shows up from 470 to 490 and again between 550 and 580.

Re: Gladitrons + Blastrons Army Combination Discussion.

I have to agree here, very intriguing. I do see ne problem though. Heavy Hitters. Specifically TKN and combined with Stingers, or any combo of the same type. I would move in heavy hitter, bait robos, then pick off glads. If the knights advance i would just knock them out with heavy hitter. say its
TKN 220
Stingers x3 400
Rats x 2 480
Filler 500

the rats would bind glads at the beginning, if the knights rush then they would be easy enough to attack with heavy hitter. The rats separating the heavy from the blasts. Making there special obsolete. If they attack =rats they advance. Mean while the stingers pick off glads and the heavy hitter gets the knights. This is my only conter im concerned with.

Otherwise I do like this combo....
