Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
Yes, I did! Omen included the metal coins, and I verified that I did get 15 tokens of each color in Hemloch (some users reported getting only 14 of one color).
I paid a little bit more than I would've if I had just gone in on the campaign, but not excessively so. I sense, however, that Omen in particular is going to get even more expensive on the marketplace if I stalled. It was also nice to find a seller who included Hemloch in the sale. I haven't decided if I want to sleeve my shiny metal coins*. * - reference to a joke Hahma made on BGG in reference to a poster whose sentence suggested he sleeved more than his cards. That's awesome that you got those versions of the games. Good thing you got them now, as like you mentioned, Omen in particular would fetch a pretty penny later on. Though, he did sell quite a bit of them with this KS, so that is quite awesome for him. I imagine that after more good word gets around about it, if he decides to do another KS for it in a couple years, that he would do well with that one too. My buddy Brian is the one that reported having only 14 blue tokens for Hemloch, as do I and commented on his thread. We'll wait until the KS dust settles and then see if John will send us the missing ones. Heck, he can send it to either me or Brian, as we are only 20 minutes apart and see each other pretty much weekly for gaming. After playing Omen last night and commenting on how cool the metal coins are, Brian brought out his KS copy of Viticulture that has totally pimped out wooden tokens and awesome metal coins of several denominations. Man those were nice too. Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
Popping in to report that I was able to introduce this to my dad tonight. End game score: Me 17, He 19.
Excellent game. What I really love is that the card abilities are really easy to understand. You can also string along some pretty decent combos sometimes. I still had difficulty remembering how many cards I drew or how many I made my opponent discard, even with the tokens I said I'd use. When it comes around to my turn, I'm like, "Ooooo, let's play - bam - bam - bam - wait, what happened?" Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
Hahma,
Thanks so much for posting The Great War for us. I'd only heard a vague indirect reference to it so far, and without the name, you can't look things up on bgg (Edit: I'm happy to report there is one, although you have to wade through many other entries with the same or similar names to get to it). Ironically, WWI, which I think was the worst war for the soldiers in it in all of human history--but its got lots of competition--is lots of fun to play out on the tactical level. Its interesting that Richard Borg, who works with so many companies, has decided to go this way for a design. I do WWI in 54mm with my minis, and lots of people play it at minis conventions in 25mm. I even have a bit of a trench system, and various tanks, which my pal Tag made up for me from model kits, but reinforced for handling during war games so they don't fall apart. The only think I don't have are the obscure two French heavy tanks, which he's supposed to get around to making for me in cardboard. I've actually seen a Schneider at the French tank museum at Samur (former cavalry school), cut away with a transparent side for viewing, and the British tanks at their tank museum at Bovington Camp. The only known German A7V to survive is oddly enough in Australia, where the soldiers who captured it brought it back home as a trophy!!! |
