Not from me; I'm not any official word. Best to bring it up in one of the Viking's Books and see what kind of response you get.

So it sounds like the general leaning is toward the viking's spirit (figure) needing to be present in order to provide the bonus (or debuff, in the case of the-hero-formerly-known-as-Atrixus). That honestly sounds like the better way to handle it to me, anyway. So let's have a quick vote, then get back to making sure we're playtesting the right wording/ruling.

Do you think (my vote in red as usual):

• Figures are required for Spirit powers to have an effect
• or
• Once a Spirit power has been activated, it's in effect no matter where the figure ends up

I think the former makes more thematic sense.

There hasn't been much feedback in the Viking books since I brought up the question, but the consensus seems to be that the figure should be present. I think that the wording of all of the spirit powers, specifically referring to "____'s Spirit" instead of the power name as the source of the boost, gives us some leeway here. Either way, the official classic rules team isn't exactly around anymore, and we need to make a decision to move forward.

I think that a figure's Spirit should refer to the figure on the card, so the power won't work if the figure is removed. It makes more thematic sense, and it seems to be more intuitive than the alternative (judging from what little public response we've received).

Hard not to call that a consensus. Spirit figures are required to bestow the spirit power bonus. Updated the OP wording so we can move forward.
