Ugh, this is one of the reasons I wanted Batman(III) more limited in his boost. If you think C will do enough, I'm on board with that. I'd prefer not to go back and change the Doombots, but I'm okay with it if we can't find a better way.

I think C will be enough, yeah. The main balancing factor on the Doombots is that since Doom is likely to eventually negate himself, it's risky to bring in too many of them, because they're not worth it once Doom fails a Mystic Domination roll.
But while he's got Batman looking out for him, Doom probably won't negate himself (if he stays at 1 invocation marker, Batman can always boost him out of negation range), so the Doombots get a lot better in that build. Taking away the Doombots will still leave Doom strong with Batman, but it'll take away his ridiculous staying power that lets him fight whole armies by himself. |

Going the "Doom" route would definitely merit a FAQ. But, since it's only when combined with Batman that Doombots get problematic, I'm not too concerned about people misplaying it for the most part. I don't think it's something that would normally lead to a negative play experience.
My bigger misgiving is having him filed away under a different name when it's still the same guy. Although eventually there may be a few other "Dooms" to keep him company. I'm definitely going that route for Doom 2099, and that's how I imagine the nigh-omnipotent Doom from Secret Wars. |

C makes the most sense to me. The Doombots not being able to work with Magic Doom seems reasonable thematically, and keeps him from feeling too hard to kill (we could even consider bumping his life back up to 6 if we wanted).
Personally, I'm in favor of changing the Doombots. Putting a class restriction in (or so forth) gives us more freedom for future designs. C3G: Taking Superheroes to a Whole New Level! Seems like taking away the Doombots is definitely the popular option, and it's my preference as well, so let's go with that. Which leaves us with three choices on how to go about that.
A - update the Doombots B - name this guy "Doom" and throw in a FAQ to clarify that he therefore isn't "Doctor Doom" and can't be used with the Doombots C - name this guy "Doctor Doom" and say in the card text that you can't roll for Decoy of Doom when he's destroyed I've got Viegon down for A and LO down for B. Other opinions? |

Doombots changing to have a restriction ala Iron Man V sounds like a good idea if we have future designs that won't work (thematically) with Doctor Doom. IF the future designs are only taking out Doombots for balance issues I'd be against it however. I feel that limiting a thematic matchup for balance sake is lazy. Now if one of those figures has an Army of Doom type of power that lets you still use Doombots effectively then ok.
So if it's thematic (speaking of future designs, since I do feel it is thematic here) then I'd vote A Would I want it to be everything I love...sure...but that's just not realistic so I'm going to focus on finding things that will make me unhappy and work on fixing those. |

I think A will end up being the best option. I suspect that even with a FAQ players will overlook the difference between Dr. Doom and Doom, but they won't overlook the different personalities if the Doombots only work with one personality Dr. Doom.

That is, of course, assuming people catch the alteration - if they've already printed the Doombots and don't, that's a different story. I know I don't always catch every update.
