Dayton, OH tournament May 19th
Next tournament: http://heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=12106
First one, no previous. When: May 19th, 12:00 noon (store opens at 11:00, sign in early and browse) Where: Bookery Fantasy-Games & Toys 13 West Main Fairborn, OH 45324-4712 www.bookeryfantasy.com MapQuest here: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...y=US&geodiff=1 Cost: No fee for entry; instead, bring a HeroScape-related prize for the prize table if you can. I will have some extras (if perhaps not the finest), so don't let the lack keep you away. Prizes: Players will get to pick a single prize from the prize table in order of their ranking after five rounds. In addition, the winner of the four-player final will get a piece of gold, courtesy of Hendal. As always, Ohio is gold country! Some prizes currently set - Jandar and Utgar flagbearers, an Orm's Return and Heroes of Barrenspur (for the unfotunate Krugless among us), likely a Thaelenk Tundra as well. And CupidsArt is coming... who knows what marvel he may bring? (No pressure, of course... ) Armies: 510-point armies - for variety, I am limiting armies to allied generals. Jandar-Ullar on one side, Einar-Utgar-Vydar on the other. Limit of 24 starting zone hexes; excess figures cannot be used (they might still be worth it, if it's say one or two figures of a squad and you've nothing better to fit in to points remaining). Tournament Scoring: The tournament will have five rounds of one-on-one games and then a top-four free-for-all final on a larger map. Anyone who wants to stay and play while the final is ongoing is welcome to do so. Only for fun, rankings 5+ would be determined by the first five rounds. I'm going to use Codeman's Point Differential system as a tie-breaker for pairings and final rankings (after strength of schedule - I don't care for it, but it is standard); see http://heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=4901 for details. As there, points will be counted in the official manner - again, I don't like it myself, but it is the official rule and on the plus side it favors heroes. Typical 3-2-1 points (win-tie-loss) for games; perhaps next time I will do something different. Glyphs: Glyphs will be random, face-down from the following list: Astrid (+1 attack) Dagmar (+8 initiative) Erland (Summoning - limited to your own units only) Gerda (+1 defense) Mitonsoul (Massive Curse - limited to your own units only) Valda (+2 move) Mitonsoul is so limited because the glyphs should not all be beneficial. I'm limiting Erland because I'd rather see people bringing up their own fighters than kidnapping weaklings that the opponent needs to protect (Raelin, for example). You're just going to have to work for it. It also makes the victory a trifle less random - a person's whole army theme can be destroyed by having one key figure plucked out. What else: I will be doing most of the setup the night before, and should be ready for sign-in at about 11:15. There is space for more than 50; I am expecting attendance near 30. I have enough terrain for nearly 40, and will borrow a bit from my friends just in case. I will provide dice (whiteys mostly, maybe a few red and blue) and wound and order markers - feel free to bring your own Valkyrie dice, of course. If you need MS figures to complete your army (for instance, two people normally play with one MS and want to include the same figure), there should be plenty available. I will be bringing 20 sets worth, so there is no need to write ahead with requests. Since the store carries Heroscape goods (at gaming store prices, unfortunately), start posting about anything you would like to buy and I'll let them know they should try to have it in. In addition to the Master Set, they can order the Fortress, Orm's Return, Raknar's Vision, and anything from waves 2, 4 and 6. They currently have some wave 5 as well, though their distributor is out so they cannot order any more. Maps I was hoping for more input on the maps, but I have 14 picked out and four of those chosen to be duplicate maps in the event we need more. Selecting the final four-player map is still giving me fits, I may just end up making one. Arctic Divide, by Uranus P. Chicago - used as is; heavy snow and normal ice Download here: http://www.heroscapers.com/download/index.php?dlid=161 Battle for the Shrine, by Aielman - reduced to two glyphs; sheer cliffs block LoS across gaps in the map; no special scenario conditions apply Download here (in the 1 Master Set archive): http://www.heroscapers.com/community...read.php?t=139 Bridge of Valor, by Requiem - start zones increased, reduced to two glyphs; this is the third duplicate map, if needed Download here (in the 1 Master Set archive): http://www.heroscapers.com/community...read.php?t=139 Come and Get It - by Uranus P. Chicago - reduced to one glyph Download here (in the 1 Master Set archive): http://www.heroscapers.com/community...read.php?t=139 Faultline, by R˙chean - start zones changed (two players, 24 hexes each), and three glyphs placed Download here (in the 1 Master Set archive): http://www.heroscapers.com/community...read.php?t=139 First Strike, by Ch1can0 - this is the first duplicate map, if needed; Teleporting - The glyphs of Brandar are portals. If a unit steps on one of these glyphs, it is teleported to the other stone circle around the other glyph of Brandar. After going through the portal, units are placed on a field next to the target glyph. The movement stops there, but the unit(s) can make an attack. Double hex units cannot go through the portals. If all the fields around the target portal are occupied, you cannot teleport. Download here: http://www.heroscapers.com/download/index.php?dlid=42 Frost Heaves, by Kahrma - heavy snow, normal ice as recommended Download here: http://www.heroscapers.com/download/index.php?dlid=546 Marro Minefields (the 1MS version), by Ch1can0 - start zones changed, reduced to two glyphs Download here (in the 1 Master Set archive): http://www.heroscapers.com/community...read.php?t=139 Secrets of the Ancients, by Oogie Da Bruce - start zones expanded; no glyphs of Brandar, 3 glyphs placed on the single water hexes; no special island rules and immense cliffs block LoS across map gaps; this is the second duplicate map, if needed Download here (in the 1 Master Set archive): http://www.heroscapers.com/community...read.php?t=139 The Broken Wall, by Marduk - heavy snow, slippery ice Download here: http://www.heroscapers.com/download/index.php?dlid=567 The Crooked Path, by Marduk - not yet available in the downloads section, I will update when it is available; this is the fourth duplicate map, if needed Download here: not yet available The Fire Pit, by Marduk - tweaked from the version available for download - the small ruins are rotated as shown in the picture Download here: http://www.heroscapers.com/download/index.php?dlid=568 Upheaval (version 2), by Supergeek - glyphs unknown, otherwise used as is Download here: http://www.heroscapers.com/download/index.php?dlid=445 Winter Wonderland, author unknown - heavy snow, normal ice; starting spaces as shown (on or over the hexes of the level 1 24-hex rock tiles) Download here: http://www.heroscapers.com/oldgaller...ttlefield2.pdf And for the final free-for-all battle, Equality, by Overlord of Toast - the snow tiles were added to allow greater seperation between the start areas. If they end up as snow in the actual build (depends on just how many 2-hex grass tiles I end up using on the other maps) they will be light snow. I changed the glyphs of course, putting a face-up glyph of Astrid (+1 attack) in each of the outer cubbyholes, and the remaining four unknown glyphs will be drawn from a double set of the others with no glyphs of Astrid. The start areas with the small ruins will be considered at a trivial disadvantage and will go to the top two players. Hmmm...bad timing Marduk, I think I will be in Wilmington North Carolina that weekend or at least driving back, so I dont think I will be able to make it. If things change, I will let you know. Though I always vote for more points with a chance to use more figures.

I wasn't really counting on you Penn people, since it's another 70-odd miles past Columbus, though I had hopes. If you do end up able to come, you are quite welcome. Any chance of other Penn people, or are you the crazy guy who drags them to these things? Malpractice makes malperfect! Yeah, I am the crazy guy that drags them all around. They are pretty adamant about not driving. It doesnt bother me so much.

you could always take 10 points away for those not using same-general armies... and I view vydar as more nuetral than just being utgar... especialy since major Q10 is vydar, and hes working with raelin and drake in the cartoons
Dayton is further, however its an I-75 only drive... so I could prolly still get there an hour faster than I did to columbus. I took a route with a 25-45mph speed limit thorugh one leg of the trip, it was shorter, but it kind of back fired made me an hour late... I might be there... if I get bored enough... and if I can come up with an army I want to use thats all on the same side, I think I have a 510 point army that would work for this. |

I can deft see the splitting of generals changing up armies a lot.
The last three armies I've used in a tournament setting: Raelin/Nilfheim/Marro Warriors/Krav - 425 pt setting Laglor/Krav/Q9/Guilty/Raelin - 500 pt setting Raelin/Tagawa Samurai Archers/Kaemon Awa/Kozuke Samurai - 500 pt setting Keeping Raelin away from Vydar is probably a good thing. :P You can mark our group down we'll probably have 4, possibly 5 or 6. Also I finally found Tundra in Columbus at a Kroger super center of all places. The greatest part are they are only 19.99 and its on my way to work so yeah I'll probably pick one up for prize donation.

Way to represent, Marduk!
I'm a big fan of the Bookery Fantasy. Anybody who goes to the tournament will have to go across the street to their comic book store. Lots of fun. I'm going to try to make it since I live right down the street, but I've always got to grade papers on the weekend...I'll confirm closer to the actual date. |

A tentative yes for me and my son Cough_Drops. I vote for a free-for-all finish.
