Re: Game Formats
IIRC: Raelin (or whoever) is a prisoner of one of the armies. The opposing army must move a figure adjacent to Raelin. This figure becomes the rescuer, and Raelin will follow the rescuer as he moves. Must move Raelin to the rescuer's start zone.

Re: Game Formats
I didn't expect such an explosive response!
I think I'll format later by categories such as point value/start zone, special scenario, special units, special objects, selection process, etc. "FE's Battle Reports!" "FE's TradeList!" Good purchases from: Ztimster, Just_a_Bill, Teasedbyeldgrim, Queen of Jandar, Tmac2200, anuctoo |

@Kaemon Awa 123
already compiled a Comprehensive Formats List, although there are many more needed to be added. The Louisville Monthly Tourney has had a different format every month, about half of which are completely original. Check out that thread: someone needs to compile a list of every format there.

Re: Game Formats
We did a team tournament once where the words "you control" on any army card was considered to read "friendly". We didn't give it a name but it made for some pretty amazing builds and wild games.
Regarding Reverse the Whip, that is a variant that is contingent upon having straight rounds where you don't switch armies, otherwise it is just a worst army tournament. (which is not near as cool as it sounds.) Last edited by R˙chean; May 16th, 2015 at 12:04 PM. |

Re: Game Formats
We did random Reverse the Whip at a ZB run event.
That was a blast. My Zombies won every match. Too bad I only ran them half the time. Best tournament ever. A cloud can change its semblance, yet retain its will With the intimacy of destruction, One knows what it is to be alive The empty sky holds no reflection, for sorrow - Eslo Rudkey |

Re: Game Formats
Bringing this thread back to life to post a couple of currently very popular tournament formats, plus some others:
Cut the cake - Players each bring two different armies (usually no figure can be in both armies). Before each game there will be a dice-off by the players. The winner of the dice-off will chose to Cut the Cake, or defer to the other player. Whoever Cuts the Cake, will chose two of the four armies that will be used in the game. The other player will chose which of those two armies they will play, leaving the other one for their opponent to use. Fixed Army Battles - 2 armies will be pre-set on each map at the beginning of the tournament. Each round you and your opponent will be seated at a new map and roll to determine who plays the two armies there. Cut the Cake 2.0 - [Combines the two above.] 2 armies will be pre-set on each map at the beginning of the tournament. Players each bring one army. Pod Draft 2.0 - [similar to above, combines fixed army with pod draft.] 2 pods (1/2 army size) will be pre-set on each map at the beginning of the tournament. Players each bring 2-3 pods (1/2 army size). Dice-off and take turns to draft 2 of the 6 or 8 pods that will be used in the game. Uniques only - You may only have unique/uncommon army cards OR you may only have one of each army card (allows 1x commons/uncommons). Commentary/Rant: For those who say that Heroscape is dying, most of the currently popular tournament formats, including reverse the Whip were introduced AFTER the game was discontinued. Unlike even seasoned games like Magic or Heroclix, we are constantly coming up with new ways to make the game more fun by varying what people bring to the table. I think every other deck/army based tournament could learn a thing or two from our constantly evolving gameplay. I am sure MtG:AotP and all PlaidHat Games do so, but not sure many other games will ever do so if most tournaments are sponsored by manufacturers sole agenda in designing tournaments is to sell more stuff. Re: Game Formats
Looking for a way to get casual players involved in Heroscape? Do your opponents lack the interest or knowledge to build/draft their own armies? If so, check out Project 500! |

@happyjosiah
When I got the idea to make the post I was looking for that thread, but din't remember what it was called, so posted here. Both need to be merged and updated somehow in a better format. There is a difference in things like "Army Creation" you have on your thread, and the different overall tournament formats here.
