The idea of this thread is to post your 450 point competitive armies then get constructive criticism on how to make them better. Here, I'll go first.

Well, I could be wrong, but I don't see very much synergy between the units you've chosen. This may be intentional, but I don't think it's very "competative".

450 Point competitive armies, eh?

While 450 is only 50 points shy of the average 500 point limit for most competitive tournament armies, it makes a large difference. Not only is the odd tenth digit a slight annoyance, but it leaves little room for add-ons once the core of your army is established.

As for your first army, I think Krug, Cyprien, and Minions of Utgar are all great units, but using Krug without Arrow Gruts, Cyprien without Sonya, and only one squad of the Minions really doesn't allow them to play to their fullest potential.

Here's an interesting army that incorperates both Cyprien and Krug, while being balanced and synergetic:

Vampires and Gruts
Cyprien - 150
Sonya - 195
Krug - 315
Arrow Gruts x2 - 395
Swog Riders x2 - 445

Cyprien is a great squad killer, as well as a potential hero killer if the dice are in your favor. Krug himself is an absolute beast when it comes to destroying Heroes, and your Gruts can take down your opponents weak squad figures while Krug deals a majority of damage to your opponent's heavy hitters.

Here's a very offensively based 450 point army that uses the Minions of Utgar:

Attack > Defense
Minions of Utgar x3 - 330
Marro Stingers x2 - 450

Two units - it's that simple! Strong melee attackers with strong ranged support.

As for your second army, I doubt the Ashigaru would be able to do much without the support of Kato Katsuro, and trying to pull off a strong Kato army within a 450 point limit would be far too difficult. Zelrig is great for picking off swarm armies, though he would need a lot of support from strong units in case he goes down early.

Deathreavers - 450

Suicide rush with Zelrig to take out as many of your opponent's squad figures as you can. After that, send out your deathreavers to tie up your opponents figures and pick off your enemies from range with the 10th.

I just looked myself..amazing...we do have a few that discuss 450 builds based off of GenCon events but nothing general...ok carry on!!!

Oh, and no +rep to me for helping him with his armies, suggesting several, and then compiling a long list of competitive army threads to show that we don't have a 450 point competitive army thread?

I see how it is, Onacara. I'll keep this in mind when/if we face off at the Sept. 6th tournament in Jersey.

Well met!

This Sunday is the second in the mixed marvel tournament series in Mineola, NY. See my blog entry on the kickoff. This week's point total is 450. Given my pool, the best choice, hands down is Cap/Krav/Raelin/Marro Warriors. For variety's sake, I'd like to play Tor-kul-Na, but, at 450 points, from my pool, with my Deathreavers and WoA not yet in hand, I am not as certain about what to field. Suggestions?

Ironically enough, in February I have a group of tournaments at TotalCon which are all 450 points. The only army I may need help will be my Championship army....beyond that, I'm totally playing fun armies which are fairly competitive.

Theoretical Championship Army:

2x Air Elemental (60 points)
3x Death Knights (195 points)
Q9 (180 points)
Isamu (10 points)
445 points

I want to play Death Knights as well as Mezzodemons at some point during the convention. I'm thinking the Death Knights are more well suited towards championship play. But...it may change, my other theoretical army for the championship:

Kaeman Awa (120 points)
Raelin (80 points)
Marro Warriors (50)
445 points

I came up with this when building armies for our 440 tourney on NHSD. Obviously I can't play it, but it's amazing what just an extra 5 points can get into your army.

Cap/Krav/Raelin is just pure nasty at 400 points - I've had a heck of a time beating that in 400 point army tests. Adding the Marros does seem like a natural step, given your army set. I haven't tested that army but I assume it would do pretty well.

The best TKN army I can think of with your set at 450 is either TKN + grubsx3 + AE + Eldgrim, or TKN + grubsx3 + Raelin + Marro Warriors + Isamu. Both look really solid to me.
