Shiftrex's Kitchen Table Customs (Update: Friar Tuck)

Hi guys, these are some customs I'm making for my kitchen table play with my siblings ^^ they are younger and really enjoy the game.

This first batch is centered around my favorite super nintendo game, Earthbound or some of you may know it as Mother 2. It's a roleplaying game themed off the US during the 1990's with psychic characters as the protagonists that use everyday items for weapons. These four characters are part of a team and are meant to work together as a group for a normal, 500 point game.

Earthbound Starter Pack: The Chosen Four

Gutsy Swing
Before Ness attacks with his normal attack, roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 19 or higher then each skull rolled counts as one additional hit.

PSI Rockin' Special Attack
Range 4. Attack 4.
Choose a figure to attack. No clear line of sight is needed. All enemy figures adjacent to the chosen figure are also affected by Rockin' PSI Special Attack. Roll 4 attack dice once for all affected figures. Each figure rolls defense dice separately.

Chosen Leader
After revealing an order marker on Ness you may take a turn with any psychic or inventor under your control and then take a turn with Ness.

Ness is the leader of the group, known for the physic specialties that I gave him. He's characterized in game by highest HP and decent melee potential. He uses baseball bats as his main weapon.

With Gutsy Swing I'm trying to recreate his iconic critical hit with a baseball bat that he's known for in his own game and in super smash brother. It either needs to do massive damage, like in his original game, or move characters from the impact, like in super smash brothers. This is the damage version of my idea.

PSI Rockin' is supposed to be a big AoE style blast of psychic power, his signature move.

And I gave him a leadership ability that probably needs some work to get the kind of synergy I want with the others. I've tailored it to be much smaller and simpler.

PSI Fire Special Attack
Range Special. Attack 4.
Choose five spaces in a straight line from Paula. All figures on those spaces who are in line of sight are affected by Paula's PSI Fire Special Attack. Roll 4 attack dice for each figure affected separately. Each figure affected rolls defense dice separately.

PSI Shield
Paula and adjacent friendly units may add one automatic shield when defending against both normal and special attacks.

Pray Special
After moving and before attacking, roll the 20-sided die to add or remove wound markers from the chosen figure's card:
-If you roll 1, you may choose a figure within four clear line of sight spaces and place a wound marker on it.
-If you roll 2-5, for the rest of the round all figures will roll two less defensive dice when rolling defense against normal attacks.
-If you roll 6-19, you may choose a figure within four clear line of sight spaces and remove a wound marker from it.
-If you roll 20, remove all wound markers from all unique heroes under your control within 5 clear line of sight spaces from Paula.
For every unrevealed order marker on Paula you may add 1 to your 20-sided die roll.

Paula is the diverse physic attacker of the group and the fastest, known for the physic specialties that I gave her and the "prayer" ability. She has the highest speed in the group and weak physical fighting potential.

PSI Fire, I'm having trouble making it anything than similar to Mimiring's fireline special. Basically this is supposed to attack enemies that are in a straight line so I guess this incarnation works fine.

PSI Shield, just a defense against for her and friendlies so no one dies super easily.

Pray, this is her hardest ability because it has several random effects (thanks to ancient roleplaying games). These are the effects that it has and the ones with asterisks are the ones I'm trying to incorporate.

Any ideas or suggestions would be great! The order marker synergy is meant to signify that her pray ability gets stronger based on how much people believe in her.

Spy Special
Before moving, you may choose a figure within three clear line of sight spaces and look at all order markers on the chosen figure's army card.

Shield Killer Special 18
After an opponent rolls defense against your normal attack you may roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 18 or higher then ignore any shields that your opponent rolled.

Upgraded Weaponry Special
Jeff starts the game with three six-sided dice placed on his army card, each showing the value of 1. Once per turn, for every unrevealed order marker on Jeff you may add a value of 1 to a die. For each six-sided die showing a value of six you may add 1 skull to every attack you roll.

Jeff is the weapon/item expert of the group, known for the special weapons/inventions that I gave him. Jeff doesn't have glaringly high stats but he's known for using ranged weapons from toy guns to lasers and also the "spy" ability and "repair" ability to make his gadgets.

Spy is a simple ability that usually shows the stats of your opponent and weaknesses from his original game. Here I thought the best way to flavor this would be to show order markers on a card, not terribly powerful but something interesting.

Shield Killer is a gadget that Jeff made in game to nullify the defensive ability of any opponent that he was fighting, even working against powerful psychics and monsters.

Upgraded Weaponry is a complicated special I may need help on. In game Jeff was known for using all kinds of weapons from toy guns to lasers that he improved over the course of the game, most of the time he built lasers and rayguns from garbage or broken household items. I thought this would be a cool way to show his weaponry improving over time.

PSI Brainshock Special 14
After moving and before attacking you may choose a figure that is engaged to Poo and roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 14 or higher remove one order marker from the figure's army card. You may add 1 to your 20-sided roll for every unrevealed order marker on Poo.

PSI Starstorm Special Attack
Range Special. Attack 7.
Poo starts the game with one PSI marker on his army card. All figures within two clear line of sight spaces of Poo are affected by PSI Starstorm Special Attack. Roll 7 attack dice for all affected figures. Affected figures roll defense separately. Remove one PSI marker from Poo's army card.

Mirror Special 14
Before moving you may choose a figure within two clear line of sight spaces from Poo and roll the 20-sided die. If you roll an 14 or higher you may copy and use the chosen figure's movement, attack, defense, height and range instead of Poo's until you reveal another order marker on Poo.

Poo is the fighter of the group, known for the physic specialties that I gave him. He has great melee potential and can only use about six items in the whole game, he's also known for his "mirror" ability.

PSI Brainshock is mean to be a mental attack so I figured that affected order markers in a similar way to Dund would be the best way to accomplish the flavor.

PSI Starstorm is meant to be a once per game nuke that affects even friendly figures because of its destructive power and wide radius.

Mirror is an ability where he copies the physical traits of his opponent briefly, I think that I'm accomplishing the flavor well enough here.

That's the idea but I'd love feedback to make them somewhat credible as they were powerful in their universe ^^ but I realize that I probably made them a lot more powerful than their point values and may not have done things the way that they needed to be done in heroscape so feel free to tell me what needs to be done

The second batch I'll be doing is also from Earthbound just because I think that the first few characters turned out good and I wanted to add some more things.

Loud Music Special
Common or Uncommon undead figures cannot move adjacent to of any Runaway Five figures and the Runaway Five cannot be moved adjacent to any Common or Uncommon undead figures by any power or glyph. No undead figure can make a normal attack against a Runaway Five figure.

Flip the Switch Special 15
After moving and before attacking choose a soulborg, robot or other mechanical figure within three clear line of sight spaces to any Runaway Five figure and roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 15 or higher the chosen figure cannot have order markers placed on its army card for the duration of the game. You may add one to your 20-sided die roll for every for every Runaway Five figure that is within two clear line of sight spaces to the chosen figure.

Paula's Prayer Special
When Paula uses her Pray Special she may add up to 1 to her 20-sided die roll if a Runaway Five figure within three clear line of sight spaces to Paula.

NOTES: These guys are a group of characters that you interact with a few times in Earthbound. They are known for their music, which chases away ghosts and makes undead flee, and for shutting off a giant robot that the main group was fighting against. Their final appearance in the game is at the end when they help Paula pray to destroy the final boss.

Backup Melody Special
While in play you may add one attack die to the Runaway Five's army card for every House Keyboardist in play. You may also add one attack die to any unique hero or squad for every House Keyboardist in play if they are adjacent to a house keyboardist.

PSI Legacy
When Buzz Buzz is defeated move his figure to a friendly Psychic army card. That army card chooses whether to add 1 automatic skull or shield using abilities with the word PSI in their title.

NOTES: Buzz Buzz was the intro character that guided Ness through his first fight in the game and was able to protect him from any attacks against a weak enemy. He also gave him insight for how to go about becoming a powerful Psychic. I thought it would be interesting to give a tiny character the ability to fly.

Bottle Rocket Special Attack
Range Special. Attack 6.
Choose any figure with a height 4 or greater within 5 spaces, no clear line of sight is needed. Roll 6 attack dice for the affected figure. The affected figure gains no defensive bonuses from height advantage or outside sources when defending against Bottle Rocket Special Attack. Can only be used once per game.

Defense Shower Machine Special
Friendly figures within four clear line of sight spaces from Dr. Andonauts are affected by Defense Shower Machine Special. Before placing order makers you must roll the 20-sided die:
-If you roll 1-12, add one die to your defensive rolls until the end of the round.
-If you roll 13-17, add one shield to your defensive rolls until the end of the round.
-If you roll 18-19, add two shields to your defensive rolls until the end of the round.
-If you roll 20, add three shields to your defensive rolls until the end of the round.

The doctor is Jeff's dad and has shown the ability to build lots of cool stuff from a spaceship to a time machine/phase distorter though the latter was with the help of some alien inventors. I gave him a signature item used by Jeff that deals a lot of damage to a single target and a machine that boosts the defense of his party.

Inventor Consensus

Whenever an Inventor under your control rolls the 20-sided die you may add 1 to that roll for every Mr. Saturn within three clear line of sight spaces. When Paula uses Pray you may add 1 to her 20-sided roll if a Mr. Saturn is within three clear line of sight spaces.

Mr. Saturn is actually the name of an entire race of aliens. These little guys are rather peaceful unless you agitate them and are capable of making incredible technology ranging from space flight to robot suits and a phase distorter/time machine though the latter was in collaboration with Dr. Andonauts.

Inventor Consensus
I wanted to give the inventors some synergy of their own so that they could do a stand alone thing if someone wanted them too because their mechanics are very cool.

Collaboration
I wanted to give them something because they are known for helping others with their inventions and where one of the specific people to help Paula by praying in the last portion of the game.

Disengage
To emphasize on their small stature and peaceful nature so that they were more playable as a common squad.

The next wave will be filled out with some iconic enemies from Earthbound.

If a squad figure is destroyed this way or if a wound is dealt from this attack put a Frozen Marker on the army card that was affected. Army cards with a Frozen Marker on them can only take the marker off on their turn and cannot attack or move.

PSI Fire Special Attack
Range Special. Attack 4.
Choose five spaces in a straight line from Starman Junior. All figures on those spaces who are in line of sight are affected by Starman Junior's PSI Fire Special Attack. Roll 4 attack dice for each figure affected separately. Each figure affected rolls defense dice separately.

Psychic Enemy
Starman Junior rolls one automatic skull during all normal and special attacks against Human Psychic enemies. When Starman Junior is defeated, Paula or Poo may gain the ability to use PSI Freeze Special Attack for the rest of the game even if they are on the battlefield, even if they are enemy figures.

Starman Junior is actually the first mini-boss of the game and is defeated with the help of Buzz-Buzz. He is a specific type of alien enemy the "Starmen" though for bonding purposes and to avoid repetition on the card I just called him "alien."

He is able to use various PSI attacks, the first of which has the ability to freeze someone in place for a short time. Given the nature of the attack I made it the first PSI special attack that requires clear line of sight.

Also, since he has a special distaste for the main crew I gave him the ability to be used effectively against enemy Psychics with a perk/downside when he dies depending on if you have him to support or to go against the start pack heroes.

Robin Hood's class is also considered to be Knight. Whenever Robin Hood becomes engaged with an enemy figure add one die to his Attack number and Defense number.

Little John must be able to move adjacent to an opponent's figure or be engaged with a figure in order to use Even the Odds Special.
