I still use Fantastic Four and OG X-Men builds a lot in testing. They're not the nastiest armies you can put together, but they're still relevant, and there's value in the familiarity for ease of testing.

My favored Titans army is Nightwing + Raven + Starfire + Superboy + Krypto + Speedy (Mia).

A 'new' army build that I'm finding to be quite effective and fun is the 4 Archers at 600 points. Hawkeye II, Hawkeye (Kate), Green Arrow (Oliver), & Red Arrow can be a formitable early game strike force, leaving you 200-600 points to spend on late game troops when playing 800-1200 point armies. Lots of what they do combos well. Kate and Green Arrow in particular is pretty sweet when everything comes together as both figures can lower defense on the same target Green Arrow attacks. They can drop fast though as 140-160 point cards, and the dice don't always cooperate no matter how great an attack plan you put together.

I’d say most of the pieces of both those builds are still strong competitively, but the classic set-ups are not really the best use of them. Like Reed and Sue are no brainers for Adventurer armies, but Thing is a bit iffy and you can usually find something better to spend points on than Torch. Same with X-Men, lots of strong Mutant builds, but OG X-Men isn’t in the top tier of them IMO.

Star-Lord (usually plus Robot or the like) is definitely one of the more competitive routes to take nowadays, especially since he constantly gets new toys to play with. Very versatile dude.

Like if you where doing some kinda tournament where you had say, 350 of an army drafted at the start that carried over each game, and another 650 that you drafted for each individual game and that couldn’t share figures between games, I’d be willing to bet that 50% of the 350 point segments made by players would have Star-Lord in them (Ms Marvel, Cap, and Robot would probably be the other main contenders).

I used to have a ton of Young Justice plans that I was going to lump into the Titans. I hardly remember that series anymore though.

for the record, I like this guy. For the longest time I was leading a titans charge with no one to follow me. Now that I'm lost in the sea of real life I have all these people interested in Titans and YJ.

That sounds like a fun build. I've definitely enjoyed Green Arrow/Red Arrow together a lot in the past. Oracle (110), Black Canary (190), and Robin (Dick Grayson) (100) might be a nice way to get that to 1,000. Canary pairs well with Green Arrow and can take Robin along for the ride and Oracle helps with initiative, an auto-skull, and protecting your Order Markers if any of your shooters or Canary gets popped.

When testing them, I actually did do the 'go all green' theme once and add the original J'onn J'onzz. Works quite well - he's a big flyer with hitting power, something they lack, and can act as your vanguard while mobilising them with Telepathic Directive, allowing you to blitz with Turtle Power without wasting time on mobilisation.

Yeah, that sounds like a good plan for a 1000 point army. Oracle saving OM's would actually be pretty big, then Black Canary is a real good melee fighter should your archers get rushed by someone. Try it out in your next PT game.
