The Book of Shang-Chi
The Book of Shang-Chi C3G MARVEL WAVE 11 THE AVENGER INITIATIVE The figure used for this unit is a Heroclix figure from the Avengers set. Its model number and name are #012 / Shang-Chi. _________________________________________________________________ Character Bio - Shang-Chi, who's name can be interpreted as "a rising and advancing spirit" was born in Hunan province in China, son to a wealthy international crime lord named Fu Manchu and an unknown American woman genetically selected by his father. Trained privately by the greatest masters of various disciplines, Chinese and otherwise, Shang had limited contact with his parents. When he did see his father, his father told him that all of his training was being directed toward some sort of great humanitarian goal, as his father manipulated Shang into thinking that he was a philanthropist. When it finally came time for Shang to face the outside world and carry out this mission, he was transported to London, England, where his mission was assassination. He knew nothing other than to honor his father with complete loyalty, so after stealthily sneaking into his target's home, he killed who he thought was an evil man in one swift strike. British secret agent Sir Dennis Nayland-Smith arrived on the scene in time to catch Shang, but of course couldn't keep him there. Shang later sought out his mother, now living in London, who then told him the truth about her former husbands life of crime and evil. At that time, Shang swore to become his father's enemy, and do whatever it would take to topple his evil empire. This led to to a banding of heroes like the Sons of Tiger, Iron Fist, Jack of Hearts, and White Tiger to take down the organization known as the Corporation. Shang would eventually team-up with other heroes such as Spider-Man, Thing, and Rom the Spaceknight. Re: The Book of Shang-Chi - Design
NAME = SHANG-CHI
SPECIES = HUMAN UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO CLASS = FIGHTER PERSONALITY = DISCIPLINED SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5 LIFE = 5 MOVE = 6 RANGE = 1 ATTACK = 2 DEFENSE = 4 POINTS = 230 PHANTOM WALK Shang-Chi can move through all figures and is never attacked when leaving an engagement. MASTER OF KUNG-FU Shang-Chi may attack any time before, during or after moving as long as he is on a space where he could end his movement. When attacking with Shang-Chi, he may either roll 2 additional attack dice or attack with his normal attack up to three times. MASTER MARTIAL ARTIST When attacking an opponent's adjacent figure with a normal attack, add one automatic skull to whatever is rolled. When defending against a normal attack from an adjacent figure, add one automatic shield to whatever is rolled, and all excess shields count as unblockable hits on the attacking figure. Re: The Book of Shang-Chi - Design
Interesting, I think the 5 defense plus 1 auto shield & counter strike might be a little too much but playtesting should see how it's balanced.

Great design.
MASTER OF KUNG-FU Shang-Chi may attack any time before, during or after moving as long as he is on a space where he could end his movement. When Shang-Chi attacks with his normal attack, he may either roll 2 additional attack dice or attack up to three times this turn. |

Re: The Book of Shang-Chi - Design
We'll see how it tests out, I'm definitely looking at whether his attack should go up one and his defense down one. I think Shang-Chi is pretty original, so it's tough to tell yet.

Re: The Book of Shang-Chi - Design
Looks great Tickle
Yeah, we'll have to see what kind of tweaking is needed in testing. As it is, he's getting attack of 4 plus auto skull or 3 attacks of 2 plus auto skull for each attack. The way it is written currently, he can attack the same figure 3 times. So that's something to keep in mind if bumping the attack, because taking height advantage into consideration, he would get some nasty possibilities against a single opponent. Nevermind what he'd do as one of Cap's Avengers. Re: The Book of Shang-Chi - Design
Yeah, I wonder if we shouldn't make it +3 to the attack or attack 3 times and bump his normal attack down to 1?
I really like this design. A melee monster for sure! C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: The Book of Shang-Chi - Design
Like the design.
PHANTOM WALK should have "is" instead of "are" The other two power names are pretty similar. |

Quote:
Yes the power names are similar, but I wanted to get the fact that he is called the Master of Kung-Fu on this card and Master Martial Artist was already named and it's a perfect fit for a power here. I don't think it's bad that they are similar. |

Re: The Book of Shang-Chi - Design
I think in this case the power names being similar is okay. After playing him the first turn or two, you won't even have to reference Master Martial Artist as you will know by then to always add 1 auto skull to whichever attack he chooses to use with Master of Kung Fu Master, and then you will easily remember to add 1 auto shield when defending vs. a normal adjacent attack and that he has Counter Strike. I think after a couple games with him, his powers will become so intuitive as to not have to even look at the card, unless an opponent needs to see it to make sure of something.
