Are Licensed Properties a good thing in Heroscape?
Hello All
I hope everyone is well. This topic was touched on in another thread and thought it deserved one of It's own. With Marvel Heroscape the possibilities for other Licenced expansions/Sets has become a very real possibilty. Is that a good thing? Some people have shown negativity toward the Inclusion of Marvel in the Heroscape Verse. What do you all think? Thanks for reading and take care. "That's a dumb planet! I think it is a good thing but I'm not saying they should make every possible kind of 'scape: Star Warscape, DC 'scape, pokescape, nintenscape. No, they should focus on 1 or maybe 2 licensed sets.

I do not think that would be a good idea. Marvelscape might be alright on its own, but I don't realy like licensed Heroscape products at all.

One reason i started this thread and poll was because I'm honestly not sure how I feel about it. Part of me is concerned because of What kind of licenses would be used, The Thought of Pokemon or (heaven forbid) Yu-Gi-Oh in Heroscape, gives me all kinds of bad feelings all over. And looking in the game Aisle of any toy store shows that you can't sell Regular games anymore. It's Simpsons Monopoly or Star Wars Stratego.
But, If it's good for the game and would sell and help Heroscape grow and continue then that would be a good thing and nobody says anyone has to buy or use figures and sets they don't want or like. But, That could also eventually effect the story line and the Verse itself and i like the story line on Heroscape at the present and wouldn't want it changed. But, I've been having a great time with the Marvel characters In the Heroscape Verse and want more. So, I'm torn. I'm torn and really not sure what I think. Thanks for the replies and your honesty. Keep em coming and thanks. "That's a dumb planet! If Someone tries to kill you, You try to kill em right back." |

Licensed products take over games and ruin them, as soon as the hype over that licensed product goes away, the game dies. Heroscape keeps going if they have their own stuff because it's new and doensn't have a big name on it. Let the licensed games make their own temporary games using their license, and let heroscape be what it is. People can always use custom figures and have fun that way. I just don't want licensed products in heroscape because they take over the merchandising aspct of the game and it risks the unique part about heroscape.

Yes. As long as they don't overdo it. Star Wars being the next obvious choice. It widens the fan base, and that means more players. For people worried about it killing Heroscape, look at how Marvel and classic are coexisting right now. And so what if one ends up slowing down the releases of the other a little bit? I say good, I don't have the money to keep up anyway, and this will keep the game growing longer. The faster they release stuff, the faster they run out of stuff to release.

I agree with Necroblade that it's fine as long as it's not overdone. A Star Wars HS would be cool. At least we can all have the enjoyment of destroying JarJar over and over again. I also wouldn't mind a GI Joe HS. It would be cool to see some common Cobra squads go up against some Samurai or Romans but I would prefer they bring in some common squads in MHS first. We need some SHIELD and HYDRA Agent squads!!!

I also understand where people on the other side are coming from. One good thing and something to consider is that Marvel Heroscape can also be a stand alone game and that seems to be the way several are playing it. So if they were to come out with a Star Wars Expansion for Heroscape (And just think of Death Star Space station Tiles! ) People would have the option of using them in Heroscape or as a Seperate game and the Heroscape fVerse goes on untainted. I could maybe stand ONE more cross over as long as it's NOT Star Wars. If you want to play Star Wars, go play one of their other 14 billion games. Do these mediocre (at best) movies really need to bring down another respectable franchise (not to mention the unrespectable ones)?
This begs the question, what could work? I don't really know. It'd have to be something that was recognizable but wasn't already whoring itself out to everything. StarCraft might be a decent choice. Shadowrun? I don't know. It doesn't really have any distinct characters, but it would rule to have Shadowrun. DC Comics? I think I've had enough Superman to last myself a millennium. If it can't be done well, it shouldn't be done at all, needless to say. I'd rather be able to get Heroscape faster than be slowed down by Marvel sets I'm not going to buy and God knows what else. |
