To answer from the "gut feeling" angle as well, I think I might go with Dance of the Dryads—I suspect its position at the bottom of the top 5 is only because I didn't notice it for a couple years (look upthread if you need to know why). But honestly my gut feelings change every year. I'll get sick of one map after a few years, start thinking another one isn't so bad after all, etc. And of course let us not forget that there are now ARV maps to consider as well ... Quote:

Hah hah, nice of you BiggaBullfrog. So hard to say... Perhaps Draugur? Although the terrain requirements (double tundra!) are so steep.....

Re: Battlefields of Valhalla Discussion Thread
It's a good map. It's got about as much variety as a tourney map can have: shadow, lava, trees, stalagmites, road, water, dungeon. It's fairly visually interesting; the road makes it easy to get around on while the highest tiles are all lava field, making it dangerous to camp there. I mean, who knows? Ask me again in two years and I might be bored of it by then. But right now I'm still diggin' it.

I hear you on Elswin Plateau, Bigga. So flat and asymmetric. Feels like an actual battleground. And I have fond memories mobilizing a Brave Arrow + Dwarves build across the plateau to smash into a waiting opponent. ~tgx |

Re: Battlefields of Valhalla Discussion Thread
Fire Isles, love the way lava and molten lava works. It’s an interesting press your luck type of mechanic, and the tightness of that map creates for HEATED conflicts.

Re: Battlefields of Valhalla Discussion Thread
Probably Ticalla Sunrise for me.
Although if I were to pick one from all maps ever it might be Common Ground. Not sure, I’ll have to narrow it down to like a top 10 or something and then really think about it. There’s a lot of maps I love. That would be an interesting thread actually... |

Yes, this is a bit facetious. However, it's sad that I have to say to newer (and older) players "Hey, you should use these BoV maps, but not these; these maps by this person, but not his other maps; these previous GenCon/ScapeCon maps, but not these." IMO, there needs to be a one-stop-shop for the best competitive maps. I can put together a group of excellent map judges to carry the mantle forward (Dok, Superfrog, KevinDola, to name a few), but it can't happen without permission (and/or community support). We have other plans if we can't carry BoV forward into the new era, but the BoV name still carries the most weight in the community. Casters of Valhalla: THE Competitive HeroScape Podcast!

BoV: Resurrection
I think it would be awesome to have the BoV be brought back and bringing in new maps. I'm sure y'all would be great at it.

Re: Battlefields of Valhalla Discussion Thread
And here's another admin that would be happy to help bring back the BoV.
