Battlefront-Style Conquest Scenario
Hey everybody!
For a long time I've had the idea of a scenario that was like the Conquest game mode in Battlefront II. For those who haven't played it, it's a deathmatch with each army having a couple hundred units reserved, and there are usually around 5 Command Posts around the map. These are where units spawn, and they can be captured by standing by an enemy one until it turns your color, probably after about 10-15 seconds. If you get all the Command Posts, you win after 15 seconds, I think. I feel like this would be a great way to play HeroScape, I've just never sat down to figure out exactly how to do that. Well, I'm sitting. ConqueScape Make a big map. My entire dining room table sized map, probably around a 3-4 ft by 6-7 ft. Have 4 places on the map fairly equidistant from each other, with at least a 7-hex of level terrain, these will be our Command Posts. Make sure there is one on each end of the map. Put treasure glyphs in the middle two (to show unclaimed CPs), and put a Brandar Glyph at both the ends, one of them face up and one face down. Keep two other Brandar Glyphs ready for when the middle ones get claimed. You could also do something else to denote the CP's. Each player brings a 1,500 point army and places 400 points worth of them within 3 spaces of their starting command post. Capturing Command Posts -If there is a figure within 2 spaces of an unclaimed Command Post at the end of a round, and no opponent's figure within 2 spaces of that figure or the Command Post, the Command Post goes to that figures control. -If at the end of a round there is a figure within 2 spaces of an opponent's Command Post, and the same conditions are met, that Command Post becomes unclaimed. -If there are both teams' figures within two spaces of an unclaimed Command Post there must be 2 more of one team's figures at the end of a round to capture the command post. -There must be 3 more to make a Command Post unclaimed. Spawning at Command Posts After making all the Command Posts under proper control at the end of the round, and before placing order markers, new units spawn in at the Command Posts. Each army may place up to 250 points worth of figures, from their original 1,500 points, within two spaces of any Command Posts they control. They may divide up the new recruits between their CP's, or just place them all around one. One army can never have more than 500 points on the battlefield at one time. Victory The game ends either when all of one player's figures are destroyed, or if one player controls all the Command Posts at the end of two consecutive rounds. Well, let me know what you think! I'll have to give this a try, I probably won't get around to that for at least a few days though, or more than that. Repaints My Maps Online Maps Customs CoN is FuN

Re: Battlefront-Style Conquest Scenario
I've personally never played Battlefront 2, but from what you're saying the conquest system is very similar to that of the Battlefield series, which I have played. This system seems to capture the spirit of conquest quite well.
This looks like a lot of fun, I'm going to have to try it sometime. Have you played any games yet this way? |

Re: Battlefront-Style Conquest Scenario
I'm going to subscribe here so I can read this in depth later...this is something we have discussed a lot in the HOSS forum and even branched off a dedicated thread to.
My son and I love Battlefronts and once we decided to start buying Star Wars figures to go headlong into HOSS we will definitely want to play some battlefront style games. Would I want it to be everything I love...sure...but that's just not realistic so I'm going to focus on finding things that will make me unhappy and work on fixing those. |

Re: Battlefront-Style Conquest Scenario
Ooh, thanks for the link to that thread, I'll probably pull some ideas from there.
And no, I have not played this yet, hopefully I will fairly soon though. Right now I have two littler maps set up, so I'll definitely have to make a big crazy map before I can I think that I might make less reinforcements spawn, maybe 150 points, and if you have a figure that is more than that you can just spawn that one in. I don't want to have a bonus for having more CP's, since giving bonuses to the leading player is inherently unbalanced. I'll definitely make some adjustments after I've actually tried it (or it'll turn out to be absolutely spectacular the way it is and changing anything would be utter blasphemy). Yep that link was a work in progress. I even playtested quite a few variants.

Re: Battlefront-Style Conquest Scenario
Yesterday I played the first game of this that I have, and I think I'm going to play another tonight. We used all my HoSS guys too, so it was very satisfying. I don't think the AT-ST nightmares are going to stop any time soon.
We only had about 950 points, not 1,500, but it worked fine. I think that next time I play it all the command posts will start out unclaimed and we will take turns placing a card's worth at any command post, making a semi-heat of battle start. Other than that it was pretty solid, though I would scratch the bit about needing three more to change an enemy base to a neutral, two more is fine. One thing that I decided during the game is that the figure spawning takes place before the command post capturing, allowing for a command post to spawn in figures and be turned neutral at the same time, which is kinda fun. I might play again soon so I'll update the "rules" soon. Repaints My Maps Online Maps Customs CoN is FuN

Re: Battlefront-Style Conquest Scenario
This looks really fun, my playgroup just started on Shadows of Brimstone so I won't be playing 'scape for a bit, but I will certainly be keeping an eye on this project! I'd love to see where it goes
