Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

JohnGee,

Its nice to hear about something historical. But Pike and Shot is much more complicated than my own rules, which I use for 54mm English Civil War games (the only P&S battles I play).

And 15mm toys are way too small for me, which is why I'm not rushing to get the new Borg WWI game The Great War, currently being Kickstarted. At mini cons, I used to say I can't tell the difference between a Roman and a Franco-Prussian War soldier in that teeny tiny scale!

DadScaper,

When you play with those Big City Slickers, keep your rules book close by!

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

Got to play a few games of Bolt Action Saturday and I really like it. The random activation mechanic is really the difference between it and other WWII tabletop rules I have played. I really would like Dust Warfare to have that same mechanic, but Dust is killing itself. Luckily there is a good sized group of Bolt Action players at the new store, so I will finally have a regular tabletop mini fix that doesn't just include LegosofBleakewoode.

Also tried out Bolide a racing game with absolutely 0 luck. No dice, cards, etc. Basically, I would call it vector based movement. Your last speed and direction directly affect your next speed and direction. Very cool.

Played a game of Castles of Mad King Ludwig with the family. Definitely better with more than 2. Felt like there was a reason to do the market. With 2 it almost always felt like waiting until you were the master builder was the better way to go.

Also finally played the last Flash Point expansion Honor and Glory last night. We chose the subway and barely got the last "person" (cat) out before the whole board was engulfed in flames. Not my favorite map (either one for that matter) and nothing really great added, so this one is skip-able unless you need to buy it.

Mainly hung out all day and talked to the customers. Great day.

Battlelore: First Edition
Played one of the preset scenarios from the Horrific Hordes (Goblin) expansion. The dwarves were defending a long hill, while the goblin's job was to assault the position. I played the dwarves and had a 1 medal (=victory points) head start due to the special scenario condition of occupying the most hill terrain.

Fun game, and it was a squeaker: I won 5-4.

BOARD GAME MISSION IMPOSSIBLE

Your mission, Mr. Phelps, now that FFG has been bought up, is to convince the new management at Asmodee/FFG to start producing more expansions for Battle Lore First Edition. Should you or any of your IM force be killed or captured, Richard Borg will deny any knowledge of your actions. This wish will never self destruct!

Perhaps we could also convince Mr. Phelps to try to get Up Front reprinted.

Your welcome!

I'm not going to Adepticon, though a contact for our demo team at Midwest Games Convention in April is going to be there. His name is Lance.

Actually, I'll be not far from Schaumburg (where Adepticon is) on the 28th of March for a historical convention in Elk Grove Village, IL.

Have fun Jormi!

Do you have the errata'd starting zones?

Destroyer in US East Coast waters (where the transport is), and 5 more Russian infantry in Moscow.
I didn't know they errata'd the starting zones! Though 8 infantry in Moscow would definitely slow down the German invasion. The destroyer is a nice escort for the transport to get past the sub. (Thing is, the Allies definitely need those bonuses. I usually am forced to take Axis. I just happen to win every time! )

Oops, rolled a 1.
