Re: Consistency Checklist
Hey all, this is a little something I through together, inspired by what I consider to be the very helpful and successful implementation of the Competitive Checklist.
Competitive/power creep is one thing we have to watch dog very carefully given the scope of the project. Another thing I think we don't bring up or think about enough is internal consistency. After all, one of the founding motivations for this group was that I wanted GreyOwl's Superman to act consistently and predictably with Kryptonite used by my Batman. Consistency is one of the great advantages of a project like this, but only if we're thoughtful about it. To that end, I think it's worthwhile taking the above checklist out for a spin during the design phase and before the initial playtest on any new design. The exact wording won't be set on things until Final Editing, I know, but Design is really when the powers and mechanics themselves are solidified, so I feel it's the best time to consider if your chosen power level is consistent with similar characters, if you should be reusing an existing power, and so on and so forth. I hope that y'all will agree with the value of the list and do the following for me: 1. Suggest any additions, changes, or removals you can think of 2. Propose and vote to make this a regular, required part of the design process like the competitive checklist I think more considerate due diligence when it comes to design consistency is good for the longterm health of the project and for avoiding (or at least reducing) reevaluations based on characters not feeling "right" in the scope of the overall project. It should also help some with complexity creep if similar themes are portrayed similarly mechanically, and when your mind starts to go like mine, you'll appreciate it. What do you say? C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: Consistency Checklist
I personally like it. I'm afraid of us losing track of power creep with so many designs.
Semi-Retired C3G Hero (and first Official Member of the C3G Target Audience!) The correct way to add C3G playtests to posts. My favorite day EVER on heroscapers. Nothing in the above questions is prescriptive, but it does at least ask the designers to think through the choices they're making and how they fit into the overall project. I didn't have a chance to do either checklist for Looker today, but I plan to before moving forward with an initial. C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: Consistency Checklist
I like the idea, though it's awfully long. Could be well worth it, though.
Like Superheroes and Comics?

Re: Consistency Checklist
I don't know that I would actually use it as is. Maybe if we could find a way to say it more concisely and had a compendium for what stats a "normal" Human, Kree, Skrull, Metahuman, Mutant, etc. have

Use the Index and sort by species. That information is readily accessible.

Re: Consistency Checklist
Eh, this checklist is still too much of a bear for me to bother with at this point. Though I do more or lessalready consider them.

Re: Consistency Checklist
I do think these are good things to be mindful of (especially like having a 'mini height check' item in there, I think that's kind of easy to overlook sometimes), but I agree that the checklist looks like kind of a lot right now.
I'd probably drop 16-19 as things that could be hit more in final editing. I'd also probably consolidate stuff like 'look at the Attack number' and 'look at offensive powers' together into one item (for each stat). I think it's inevitable that you end up having to look at both to get the full picture. |

Re: Consistency Checklist
Yeah, I kind of agree. Honestly, if you're designing you'll probably notice this stuff already, or someone will point it out to you.

Re: Consistency Checklist
I'm happy to take notes about how to trim it down to what's helpful. I'll start with what Ronin mentioned and consider anything else y'all might want to add.
I think just assuming we already automatically do all of this is a lot like assuming that we already are considering competitive issues because we playtest. It's true until it's not. There's a reason we brought in the competitive checklist even though we automatically consider competitive issues in design, and I think this falls under the same heading. C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.
