Re: Buying a car

Onacara's suggestion of a Honda Civic is a good one. I've got a '99 Saturn SL1 with 167,000 miles and am still using the original clutch (I did have to replace the factory battery a couple of months ago...I was hacked until I realized it was nine years old! That and a radio are the only unscheduled repairs I've had.). Know that with your first car, you will probably get a couple of dings from trees, mail-boxes, snow banks, or whatever; so you don't really want too good of a car. Go safe, and right now, if you can, go for mileage, since gas is going to cost more and more. (This bit about gas cost and mileage, by the way, argues against going with one of the "tanks.") Oh, I get 38 mpg in my very unsexy Saturn.

Re: Buying a car

Pretty much any foreign 4-cylinder car will be ideal for you. My Toyota (1991) has 141,000 (roughly) miles on it, and I'm averaging about 20mpg with it (I believe it could be more, but I can't afford to do a tune-up to it yet).

Right, my first car was an 86 Chevy Citation, my friends called it the moving violation...rhymes..hehe. Anyhow, I had it well over 150,000 miles.

I didn't know pastors were allowed to say sexy?

Dan: "I'm filled with reckless desire."

If that's the case, how are you still a Reverend?

Yipes! If K/H_Addict is saying that I'm sexy; then there is something seriously wrong with reality. <laughing>

Re: Buying a car

If you can afford one I say a Subaru Baja

The prefomance and gas efficency of a car, but with the nifty bed for when you need some heavy lifting

I wouldn't mind one of these myself

I don't understand how some could call it ugly

That's not a bed. That's like a living-room chair. It can hold some stuff, but not a whole lot. Go with an El Camino. We can race them!

Re: Buying a car

I recommend a Toyota with a four cylinder. Don't forget Scion is made by Toyota too. After that I'd look for a Honda, again with a four cylinder.

I personally prefer older (pre '95) rear wheel drive, four cylinder Volvos, but repairs can be pricey, and the mileage won't be as good. I average 22MPG in my '91 740 GL.

Whatever you get, make sure the timing belt has been changed at all the recommended intervals, or you can have a critical engine failure.
