Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
We're playing Descent 2nd Edition, and also a bit of Star Wars X-Wing. My wife and are really fairly new to boardgaming, so we're still enjoying the heck out of Caracassonne and Dominion as well (though I don't guess you'd call those board games.) We also have Wrath of Ashardalon, which we have played very little, since it always seems to devolve into a race to the objective.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
Tales of the Arabian Nights is definitely not a game that you play when you want to strategize. It is all about the story.
Don't think of it as being outnumbered. Think of it as having a wide shot selection! Scaper of the Week #17 How to get to Skyknight's house: Drive to the red light, then call him. |

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
I got on the X-Wing bandwagon and just finished a game with my brother and his wife. I was Luke, and they were the Empire. I took the first hits, and I fortunately had shields to absorb the first two. I finally landed some blows, and it was down to all three of us with one hit to get knocked out. Lots of tense maneuvering, but I finally finished the game with the winning shot.

Played Boomtown today. Got caught up in bad bids and lost by about 30. Like Superheroes and Comics?

What makes it unique in my own gaming experience is that it is both an abstract brain-burner, when played with two, and a wild party-like game, when played with more. Excellent little game. |

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
I played two more games of X-Wing today. One with my son and one against him and a friend. I lost both games as the rebels. The nimble little TIE fighters were just concentrating fire and knocking out my slower ships. Both games were very fun, despite the crushing losses.
I'm also in the middle of a solo game of A Touch of Evil, my first playthrough. I have yet to find a Flying Frog game I haven't liked, and this one is shaping up to be a fun one, as well (although I could do without the cachectic vampire on the cover; he looks a little cheesier than their usual zombies and aliens ). |

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
Stopped by the Buckeye GameFest to do a Math Trade and ended up playing a game of Abaddon with a guy who works for Toy Vault. Very cool game designed by the great Richard Borg. It seems like it's flying a little under the radar, but anyone who loves Heroscape should give it a shot. Great blend of a miniature-esque game with both dice rolling AND card playing, leading to a very interesting blend of tactics and strategy.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
Played a game each of King of Tokyo and Peloponnes today.
King of Tokyo is fun and I think I could play that again like another 50 times so I can see all the different things that can happen with the cards and all. Peloponnes was good, I typically am not a civ builder fan as they lack any bite to them. Euros in general bore the Hell out of me. I did get hosed a bit with the bidding war for crop territories and had most of my people die come the harvest which really killed any chance I had at winning. I think that is what annoys me most about Euros. At least in King of Tokyo I died but in Peloponnes I was going to lose anyway but had to sit around for two more rounds of the game to watch everyone else beat me. |
