Map Tested: Grundy's Grave

Overall Look: looks thematic

Stability: no problems, I built it IRL

Build difficulty: straightforward

Size: 35 x 23

Unit types positively affected: Fliers move around a bit easier, but it’s not a huge barrier to walkers. Undead naturally get a bonus with the trees of death

Unit types negatively affected: None major.

Key areas on the Map: The height near the Trees of Death, the height in the center (more the asphalt than the concrete). I like how the Trees of Death height is a risk/reward, you get height, but you have -1 Defense too.

Areas not used much or at all: Most of the map is used, especially when throwers throw people down in the water/swamp water.

Map: Grundy’s
Units: Magneto (320), Blob, Pyro, Toad, Sabretooth (1000) VS Power Rangers (1000)

Spoiler Alert!

Blob + Pyro/Toad move up on OM1. Black and Blue Rangers get 5 early wounds onto Blob from height. Magneto throws Black Ranger to low ground and Sabretooth puts 2 wounds on him with a normal attack, then attacks a second time with his SA to kill Black Ranger. Rangers put 3 wounds on Sabretooth. Magneto throws Blue Ranger to low ground then Sabretooth wounds him. Rangers bring Sabretooth to 6 wounds.

Rangers win init and take down Sabretooth. Magneto avoids using Mutant Revolution and instead has both Toad and Pyro use Brotherhood Lackey first. Toad pulls in Red Ranger near some other Rangers and then Pyro unleashes a Living Flames SA, bouncing attacks back and forth between Rangers, placing a couple wounds. Magneto throws Blue next to Blob and wounds him twice. Rangers take out Blob. Magneto kills Blue Ranger. Rangers take out Toad. Pyro brings pink to 4 wounds.

Magneto kills Pink, then he and Pyro each wound Red. Rangers only manage 1 wound on Magneto. Magneto kills Red, then he and Pyro easily kill Yellow as Red had the last 2 OMs.


Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Magneto (1 wound), Pyro (0 wounds) win.

Units: Magneto (320), Destiny, Avalanche, Sabretooth, Quicksilver (1000) VS Vegeta SSJ + Base, Bulma, Gohan, Krillin (1000)

Spoiler Alert!

Slow first round, as Bulma finds dragon balls and the Brotherhood advances.

Quicksilver fails. Magento pulls Krillin next to him then kills him from height. Quicksilver wounds Vegeta and Gohan. Magneto throws Gohan to low ground then is blocked. Vegeta gets 2 wounds on Quicksilver and Gohan wounds Magneto. Sabretooth uses Pounce SA to kill Gohan, then uses Pounce SA again thanks to Feral Instinct to wound Vegeta. Magneto throws Vegeta to low ground. Vegeta goes Super Saiyan.

Magento and Quicksilver put 3wounds on Vegeta. Vegeta uses Atomic Rush to wound Mags and throw him next to the Tree of Death, then slams him with a 5-skull attack which kills Magneto, costing the Brotherhood OMs 2+3. Vegeta kills Avalanche.

Vegeta has better dice than Sabretooth and takes him out. Bulma heals Vegeta.

Vegeta takes out Quicksilver.


Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Vegeta Super Saiyan (1 wound), Bulma (0 wounds, dragon balls used) win.

Final Thoughts: Map feels good and balanced. I like the changes.

Overall Look: The swamp and urban terrain combination is retained from the 1.0 version and integrated more fully in a way I like. The shift to the Tree of Death usage is great thematically.

Stability: I played on TTS

Build difficulty: I played on TTS

Size: It’s a good size. Usually fighting starts near the end of round 1/start of round 2, which is about what you like.

Unit types positively affected: Flying and range still matter, but turtling is not rewarded like in the 1.0 version. A ranged undead unit would probably like the Tree of Death placement, but that’s a very uncommon combination. Water users like all the swamp water near the action.

Unit types negatively affected: No archetypes stand out for this.

Key areas on the Map: The ring around the swamp water is the big one.

Areas not used much or at all:

The corners of the map more, but having some more long ranged snipers than I used could change that.

Map: GRUNDY’S GRAVE
Units: Tiva Steelheart (190), Hellslinger (210), Lady Death (360), War Angel (240) (1000) vs Omni-Man, Atom Eve, Invincible (1000)
Unit Summary: The figures moved fast in this one and mostly clustered in the middle and threw down. Having a couple of trees right there for the sake of smacking people with them was fun.
Game Summary

All four Sworn have a Sworn OM. Initiative Sworn. Hellslinger teleports himself, War Angel, and Lady Death to the ring around the swamp water in the middle of the map. Atom Eve advances, charges up, and smashes Lady Death over the head with a tree for 2 wounds. Omni-Man smacks a whiffing Lady Death for 3 more wounds. Tiva uses a Sworn marker to move up. Lady Death hits Eve for 1 wound after changing a die to a skull and after Eve uses her marker for a block. Lady Death removes a Sworn marker to attack again and defeats Atom Eve. Invincible flies up and hits Lady Death for a sixth wound. War Angel’s Sworn Marker goes and Hellslinger moves next to Invincible. Lady Death attacks Invincible (no wounds) and a marker is removed from Hellslinger (1 heat wound on Invincible) so Lady Death can attack him again. She hits him for 1 wound. Hellslinger removes an OM and hits Invincible for 1 Heat wound, then attacks Invincible and hits for 1 wound. Invincible (now with 4 wounds) punches Hellslinger for 1 wound, then his desperation finishes Lady Death.
Invincible heals 1 wound. There’s only room to place 3 Sworn OM now. Initiative Sworn. OM on War Angel, who engages Invincible. Tiva has Hellslinger remove an OM (heat wound on Invincible but up to a third wound on Hellslinger) and Tiva engages Invincible as well. War Angel defeats Invincible. Invincible had OM1. War Angel uses a Sworn Marker to go instead of Tiva, but first Tiva uses a Sworn Marker and has Hellslinger teleport next to Omni-Man. War Angel can’t hit Omni. She attacks again and hits Omni-Man for 1 wound. Hellslinger hits Omni with a heat wound and puts wound number 4 on himself, then attacks Omni, but can’t hit. Omni-Man uses his special and finishes Hellslinger and puts 3 wounds on War Angel. Tiva climbs to even height and punches Omni for 2 wounds. Omni-Man punches out War Angel.
Omni-Man heals a wound and is up to 5 Life. Tiva only has one place for a Sworn marker. Initiative Omni-Man. He tries his special but only hits for 1 wound. Tiva heals the wound and hits Omni-Man for 2 wounds. Omni can’t hit with his normal attack. Tiva can’t hit either. Omni uses his special and hits Tiva for 1 wound. Tiva heals and can’t hit back.
Omni-Man heals a wound and is up to 4 Life. Initiative Tiva. She can’t hit Omni. Omni uses his normal attack and punches for 3 wounds. Tiva heals a wound and can’t hit Omni. Omni hits her for 1 wound. She heals and can’t hit. Omni uses his special and puts her down to 2 Life. Tiva is out of markers to heal with. She catches Omni whiffing for 2 wounds.
Omni heals a wound and is up to 3 Life. Tiva is sitting on 2 Life and has only one place for a Sworn marker. Initiative Omni-Man. He finishes Tiva with his special.

Unit Summary: The ring in the middle of the map offered a fun opportunity for Mister Freeze’s ice placement. He just fell too fast to make it relevant. Man-Bat’s figure movement was fun with the Tree of Death, though he struggled to get both height and to avoid putting himself next to it, so there was some fun tactical challenges.
Game Summary

Calendar Man starts on his card. Sworn have 4 markers again. The holiday killers are Man-Bat and Mister Zsasz.

Lady Death is the first target for Holiday Killings. Initiative Arkhamites. Joker advances. Calendar Man chooses an OM on Lady Death (OM3) and it’s moved to War Angel. Joker advances 4 spaces. Tiva removes a Sworn Marker from Lady Death and has War Angel fly forward. Hellslinger teleports the others up and then attacks down on Joker from range for 2 wounds. Joker has Man-Bat carry up Mister Freeze and Inmates advance. He defeats an Inmate and Mister Freeze drops ice in a row in front of the Sworn, then uses his damage dice to put 1 cold wound on Lady Death. Joker can’t hit Tiva with a toxic roll. Tiva has War Angel move next to Mister Freeze. Lady Death moves around to the side and blasts Mister Freeze from range for 3 wounds. She has War Angel remove an OM (no auto wound on Freeze) then attacks Freeze again and finishes him. Joker can’t hit Tiva with a toxic wound. Man-Bat flies Lady Death next to a Tree of Death and throws an Evergreen Tree at her, but only inflicts 1 wound. He reveals himself as a killer to get another wound on Lady Death. An Arkham Inmate moves next to Lady Death and attacks down on her, but whiffs. Zsasz attacks Lady Death from height disadvantage and rolls all skulls, but she rolls 3 shields on 3 dice and only takes 1. Joker misses yet another toxic wound. Tiva has Hellslinger move next to Joker. War Angel flies next to Zsasz but can’t hit him from height. Hellslinger removes an OM and hits Joker for a heat wound, but can’t follow up with his attack (and takes on a wound of his own, of course).
Initiative Sworn. Joker finally gets a toxic wound on someone (Hellslinger). Tiva avoids a swipe from Joker after removing an OM from War Angel (missed the damage die) to move closer to the action. Lady Death hits Zsasz for 3 wounds. War Angel loses an OM (damage die hits Zsasz) so War Angel can go again, and she takes out the last Arkham Inmate. Hellslinger hits Joker with a damage die (1 wound) and an attack to finish Joker. Joker had OM1. War Angel attacks down on Zsasz and finishes him. The Long Halloween is over. Calendar Man uses mind games but it works out for the Sworn, moving an OM from Tiva to War Angel. War Angel uses it to steal Tiva’s turn. Tiva uses the last Sworn marker for the round to maneuver Hellslinger next to Man-Bat. War Angel engages Man-Bat and smacks him for 3 wounds. Man-Bat claw carries Hellslinger for 1 wound, then finishes Lady Death with a tree. Calendar Man chills in Arkham.
Initiative Sworn. War Angel steals a turn and attacks down on Man-Bat for 1 wound. Hellslinger uses a Sworn Marker and attacks Man-Bat but can’t hit him. Man-Bat claw carries Hellslinger for 1 wound, defeating him, then chucks a tree at War Angel for 1 wound. War Angel flies over and defeats Man-Bat.

Bio Blurb: In the thickly forested rural lands outside of Gotham City, a sprawling marsh is hidden in the mist. The green fog the swamp exhales adds an air of foreboding to the surroundings, chilling many a traveler to the bone and sending him on his way. Perhaps that’s a good thing though as, according to legend, this swamp is the not so final resting place of something terrifying indeed.
