Re: The Book of Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders) (Breathing)
Two Hawkgirl designs at once... I definitely won't ever get confused. I like the combination of powers here, 2 reuses and a slight tweak on Razor Wing Slash.

Looking forward to flying her over a horde of zombies!

Re: The Book of Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders) (Breathing)
I think I'd technically prefer we swapped the names on these two Hawkgirl given the actual comic history vs what name is more known from the cartoon.
Nowhere near a hill I'll die on, but the generally no synergy offered here lends me to prefer this as the Shayera version that's kinda random in appearance and Kendra as the actual JL historic member with the synergy. Definitely dig the overall approach though. |

Re: The Book of Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders) (Breathing)
For those of us confused by the history of Hawk people, could you break down how Shayera and Kendra have worked with JL over history? That might be a useful exercise here.

Re: The Book of Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders) (Breathing)
My understanding (and someone more versed in Hawk history is more than welcome to correct me):
Shiera is Golden Age Hawkgirl. Shayera is Silver Age. She renamed to Hawkwoman around when she joined the League in the 80s. Crisis on Infinite Earths happens, both are now on the same Earth. Hawkworld reboots their continuity in 89, making their Justice League appearances confusing and needing fixed (not sure if it happened). Kendra debuts in 99. She joins the JSA first, and later the League. She leaves for a short time after Final Crisis, but is killed in Blackest Night. Brightest Day resurrection she remembers all past lives, goes by Shiera. Rebirth/Current Continuity, Kendra is in the League. Shayera is Thangaring it up, but has actively helped the league for at least one arc. So really if we are keeping names as is, Shayera should probably be switched to Hawkwoman I guess? Hawk continuity is weird. |

Re: The Book of Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders) (Breathing)
I wanted Shayera to synergize best with Zatanna and John, while Kendra left a bit more open/more synergy with Martian Manhunter. Both of which are currently being achieved. Merely swapping their names would ruin that, so I'm not ok with that as a solution.

Re: The Book of Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders) (Breathing)
Well they're both Champions, so they're both clearly "League-focused" versions. Sounds like this could be patched by renaming Shayera Hawkwoman, then, and keeping everything else as is?

Re: The Book of Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders) (Breathing)
Yep. Put that thought over in her thread. I can definitely appreciate the intentionality in pairings with the names, so carry on here. I'm on board with as is here.

Re: The Book of Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders) (Breathing)
This conversation does make me want to see some JSA Hawkgirls in the future. But, yeah, this one seems good to go as is.
