He gains control from eye contact, I've only ever seen it during one on one encounters.
We could remove the -1 life a round, it's more of an over time thing and he just reverts back to human, he doesn't die.

I think he has been portrayed as draining from Mutates as well to become stronger as well, but that was with the later ecapades I was talking about. I think just from a Unique Hero might work. Spider-Man and Ka-Zar have been effected I think, but he can drain life essence from any living thing, the difference is what actually powers him up.
Defense to 5 works. How often do people use Sentinels?

Sentinels? Almost never. Even if you're exclusively playing Mutants, they're just not that good. Though I haven't played them with Bolivar Trask and the MRD, which might help.

Kind of like the idea that he can get extra juiced from draining anyone that's not a normal human. So mutants, mutate, an alien, etc. That seems to be keeping in the theme that he finds non-humans much more rewarding to drain while opening it up such that he's not a straight counter-draft.

MUTANT LIFE FORCE HUNGER
After attacking an adjacent figure that is not an Android, destructible object or Undead, if the defending figure received one or more wounds, you must remove 1 Wound Marker from this card for each wound the defending figure received. If the defending figure is a non-Human Unique Hero, Sauron may roll up to one extra attack and defense die for the remainder of the round.

HYPNOTIC STARE/GAZE?
After attacking with Sauron, you may choose any Unique Hero adjacent to Sauron and roll the 20-sided die, adding 4 to your roll if that Hero has the Hypnotized personality. If you roll a 13 or higher, take control of the chosen Hero and immediately take a turn with that Hero. At the end of that turn, control of that Hero returns to the player who controlled the Hero before Hypnotic Stare/Gaze. All Order Markers that were on that Hero’s card will stay on the card and you may not take any additional turns with other figures you control. For the rest of the round, the chosen figure has the Hypnotized personality instead of what is listed on its card.

CLAW CARRY
After moving and before attacking with Sauron, you may choose a small or medium figure Sauron passed over this turn. Place the chosen figure adjacent to Sauron, and you may roll one unblockable attack die against the chosen figure. When the chosen figure is moved by Claw Carry, it will not take any leaving engagement attacks.

Were there any thoughts on ditching the end of round -1 life? Lykos as a human was a hypnotherapist who drained his patients while they were unconscious, the first animal he drained was a pet dog. I'm guessing between draining pets and operating a clinic he had to drain somebody/something at least every couple days to stay alive. Comparable to a vampire. Once Sauron, he has to drain to stay as Sauron.
Along with the craving is that enough to justify losing life in however long a game is?

Morbius has a similar thing to the whole idea.

I’m fine dropping it. The card is going to be wordy enough as it is.

Yeah, one life lost per round forces him to have OM's all the time and would be really detrimental on bigger boards where you might not be able to engage right away. I feel the card will be more draftable without it. Then you can toss him into lots of armies and he doesn't monopolize the OM placement, potentially making other units weaker as a result.

Yeah, I'd lose the self-wounding. Agreed that it's not necessary for the sort of timeframe we're portraying. Someone can Bruce Banner it and design a human Karl Lykos if they really want that dynamic represented.

The Hypnosis power should probably be locked down to Unique Heroes.
