DEFENDER: How would YOU do it?

Defender is an ability from Magic: the Gathering

Essentially, this figure cannot leave it's starting position.

1) DEFENDER
This figure can't move and never attacks with leaving-engagement attacks.
2) DEFENDER
This figure can't move.

But why not a direct port? If walls cannot attack, then why does Wall of Swords have an attack value?

So how would YOU do it?

Or perhaps:
This figure can't attack. If a friendly figure adjacent to this figure would be targeted for an attack, you may have that attack target this figure instead.

Sometimes, you just have to start over.

Interesting idea.

3) This figure cannot move. If a friendly figure adjacent to this figure is targeted for an attack, you may change targets of that attack to this figure.

Defense

DEFENDER

This figure may not attack or make leaving engagement attacks. If a figure you control within 2 clear sight spaces of this figure is attacked, you may choose to have the attack target this figure instead. After resolving the attack, but before placing wounds, roll a number of attack dice equal to this figure's power. The attacking figure receives a number of wounds equal to the number of crossed swords you roll.

Defender:
This creature cannot attack, or make leaving engagement attacks. If this creature is attacked, after rolling defense dice, this creature may immediately take a turn. This creature can only attack the creature that attacked it during that turn.

It's a bit different than Dysole's, which is the far more superior power. I do think that defender is a very confusing power to make though.

DEFENDER
This creature can't attack. Figures you control that are adjacent to this creature may use this creature's [Toughness] value instead of their own when rolling dice for defense.

To those that outright say "This figure cannot attack", what do we do with walls with attack values such as Wall of Swords?

Give them Counter Strike, naturally. It emulates the mechanics of a "Wall with Power" pretty much perfectly.

Wall of Swords is 3/5 giving just counter strike wouldn't be mirrored enough.
Besides I'm using Counter Strike for Vigilance.

Edit: ENGAGEMENT STRIKE and roll requirement reflects attack power

I would do it like pit trap or cyber claw but with attack and not move:
DEFENDER
A figure that enters or occupies a space adjacent to [creature] may not attack, unless a friendly another figure controlled by the opponent occupies an adjacent space.

On my cards, I'll have "Creatures with Defender block line of sight." Just makes sense. Seems to me, everyone was forgetting that element of the game. Adds a new level of depth to strategy. Now you'll have to position yourself around a squad that acts as a moving wall.
