How Would You Play Them?
Well met! The Armies (cards presented below) have been chosen! How would you play them in this scenario? How would you expect things to play out? A Prince's Desert Mystery!* "Remember your training. And that you are only Human. You may not really die in Valhalla, but it sure feels like it when you do." Kaemon continued. "You're not Saint George. Leave the Dragons and Giants to the rest of us." The Prince saw Bahadur nod, however grudgingly. "This fight is about more than proving your courage and individual competence in battle. It's about displaying your character, your fitness to lead. Remember . . ." "Leave him be, mother! Bahadur roared. "He's killed and been killed already! The Undead Queen is . . . was by now . . . Blast! You've got me doing it now. Let's go. We've got Beasties to kill!" The Armies. Snake draft from Classic and C3V/SoV Unique Heroes only, 750 points per player. No healers or units with auras with ranges over 1, or units that allow turns with more than one unit allowed. A partial list of banned units: Ana, Sonlen, Rhogar, Kelda, both Raelins, Kyntela, Master Woo, Kantono Daishi, Tomoe Gozen. Note. Bahadur and Prince al Kahora are only available to the Host (kolakoski) in the draft, who will be done drafting after 550 points (750 - 200 (120 (Bahadur) + 80 (the Prince)). After the draft, players will divided into 2 teams of 2 for each game. The first pairing will be determined by 20-sider rolls. The teammates in the second and third games will be the Players with the highest and lowest cumulative scores versus the players with the second and third highest cumulative scores. The Map. Open desert (Sand, with a few Palms and Bushes) with a Cave (with doors) at one end, containing a 7-hex Pool of Kelda, with a Rock hex at the center. At the beginning of the second game, a Giant Spider is placed on the Rock hex, at the beginning of the third, a Brandar's Chest. The Doors are closed and impenetrable, and the Cave is out of play, during the first game. They are open for the second and third games. The Setup. Three games will be played. The first and third will last 5 Rounds. The second will last until the end of the Round in which the Giant Spider is killed. Teams will be formed before each game, with the teammates changing for each game. Each team will set up on its edge of the Map at the beginning of each game. Second Wind will occur after each of the first and second games. Initiative. All players roll. The highest roll goes first and his teammate goes third. The highest roll on the other team goes second and his teammate goes fourth. This is instead of the usual team initiative rolls (teams deciding for themselves which teammate goes first) - reflecting the relative autonomy of the individual players. The Pool of Kelda. Each time a unit ends its turn in a Pool of Kelda Water hex, it may elect to be healed as though by Kelda (20-sided die roll). The Giant Spider. It is placed on the Rock hex at the center of the Pool of Kelda before the second game. An Order Marker may be placed on its card by each player once per Round. The Brandar's Chest. It is placed (Power side down, normally Trapped) on the Rock hex at the center of the Pool of Kelda before the third game. Note. A unit possessing the Brandar's Chest may be attacked by any unit, including a teammate's. The Victory Conditions. Victory Points (VPs) will be awarded to each player as follows: Each hero's VPs for inflicting Wounds, equal to the cost of the opponent's hero divided by its Life number, will be kept track of separately for each game. For example, a Wound inflicted on a 140 point, 4 Life hero would be worth 35 VPs, and be assigned to the hero that inflicted it. Wounds inflicted by the Spider are scored for the player controlling it. A player with a unit in possession of the Brandar's Chest at the end of the third game receives an additional 30% of its total VPs, but only if it is outside the Cave. * An homage to: The Players and their armies are displayed below - Who Will Win? chas: Taeblewalker: Sherman: kolakoski: |

Re: How Would You Play Them?
I think Chas might have a pretty strong army here. While none of his units are ridiculously strong, they are all cheap and pretty healthy (Nilfheim excluded). As long as he doesn't make himself an easy target, I think that he could get away with murder here. Snatching up the Chest isn't as likely for him, but if he can steal it that would help his odds of gaining a lot of VP's considerably.

Initial Thoughts
chas or Sherman (probably slight edge to Sherman as he has a lot of good figures) with kola the next most likely upset.

Re: How Would You Play Them?
Chas has dragons. And they're good dragons. Nilf has a ton of good stuff surronding him, and Morsbane comes in as a backup. Very solid. Taeblewalker doesn't have much special things, I wouldn't be too afraid. Sherman has some tough guys to take down, and range is hard to lose to with teleportation. Kola might be able to do stuff, but I'm not sure. Chas and Sherman look like big threats. Taeble doesn't have much special things, and Kola's army might fly under the radar. Sherman (among others) could camp in the water pretty effectively, seeing how his army has lots of heavy hitters with lots of life. Grabbing the chest is tantalizing, but may attract to much carnage. I would attempt to break up the initial fights over the chest, and get someone fat (Charos) to sit in the pool of Kelda with the chest. You're keeping the bonus and may attract someone to attack you, yielding to additional casualties on their side. It's a complex game, but the chest really spices things up.
Oops, rolled a 1. |

Thanks, guys! Here's hoping you like the scenario! Marro, the Chest does you no good unless it's outside the Cave: A player with a unit in possession of the Brandar's Chest at the end of the third game receives an additional 30% of its total VPs, but only if it is outside the Cave. Your analysis in general is a bit vague, but you don't appear to like my chances. It looks like you think: chas is the favorite, "Chas has dragons. And they're good dragons. Nilf has a ton of good stuff surronding him, and Morsbane comes in as a backup. Very solid." with Sherman a close second, "Sherman has some tough guys to take down, and range is hard to lose to with teleportation." And Taeblewalker third, because "Taeblewalker doesn't have much special things, I wouldn't be too afraid." and, again, "Taeble doesn't have much special things, . . ." while I am most likely to be last. "Kola might be able to do stuff, but I'm not sure." "Kola's army might fly under the radar." chas seems the clear favorite, with Sherman a close second, among you all. Then there's Dysole's cryptic "with kola the next most likely upset." Hey Dys, how does "range is hard to lose to with teleportation" work here? The consensus among you seems to be that my army sucks, and camping in the Pool is the best strategy. What do think, dok? P.S.: Feel free to record your picks in the Who Will Win Pool for this scenario. Last edited by kolakoski; October 26th, 2015 at 11:30 AM. |

Not Too In Depth
Based upon my initial analysis (and I'm not feeling like doing much more in depth), my ranking of armies is Sherman, chas a step behind, you several more steps behind, Taeblewalker a step or two behind you.

Re: How Would You Play Them?
Well met! Summing up the summing up (1st - 4th place): Marro: chas, Sherman, Taeblewalker, kolakoski Dysole: Sherman, chas, kolakoski, Taeblewalker After Nilfeim, chas' army is a bit fragile. Sherman has a well balanced, tough army (mirroring my own in some ways), and would be my pick to win - other than myself, of course. [Tul-Bak-Ra's ability to take the Chest out of the Cave should put a target on his back from the get-go in Game 3, fellas!] Taeblewalker's Thug Routine may benefit by being a part of a team. So might my own Mid-level Medievalness, for that matter. Hopefully, re-teaming by score (1 & 4 versus 2 & 3) after each Game will lead to a taut, down-to-the-wire contest. (As usual, a Battle Report with pics will be forthcoming.) |

Re: How Would You Play Them?
Well met! Official section..custom cards :-/ +Rep for this post above. No idea what it means . . . unless suggesting this is in wrong forum. Putting all our stuff in Official, as that's where the Gang's thread is. I suppose the Admins. could move all our stuff to the Custom section . . . Re: How Would You Play Them?
I think the Fluttering War Witch will end up holding on to the chest for a while. At least that would be my plan if I had that figure. 50/50 chance of avoiding an attack and moving away. A Siege vs. Bahadur showdown seems like it could be epic, but not sure if the two will actually meet up with so many other heroes in play. I really like the all hero format you guys came up with.
