CHARACTER BIO:
Spoiler Alert!
The war on Valhalla has dragged on for far longer than anyone expected. All of the people who were brought to this planet have found new lives, forging relationships with those that they met. Perhaps no one demonstrates this better than Eltris, a fierce Elven warrior who managed to form a close bond with a dragon.
Having earned her companion's trust, Eltris can ride her ally into battle to help turn the tides. Although she might not be the strongest warrior on her own, she and her companion have come to such a close understanding of each other that they are more than the sum of their parts, each fighting with a renewed vigor to ensure that they are never separated.
Neither of them have given it much thought, but the unlikely pairing does beg the question of what will happen to them once the war comes to an end. Will they finally go their separate ways, or will the legend of the dragon rider continue to live on in Valhalla?

DRAGON RIDER
At the start of the game, choose one Unique large or huge Dragon Hero that you control to be Eltris' Companion. After revealing an Order Marker on this Army Card, instead of taking that turn with Eltris, you may take a turn with her Companion if it is adjacent to her. After taking a turn with her Companion through Dragon Rider, place Eltris an any empty space adjacent to it. If Eltris is engaged before being moved by Dragon Rider, she will not receive any leaving engagement attacks.
COMPANIONS' STRENGTH
While Eltris and her Companion are within 3 clear sight spaces of each other, they roll an additional die when attacking or defending. If Eltris' Companion begins its turn adjacent to her, it may move one additional space.
DESIGN NOTES:
Spoiler Alert!
I've always been a fan of books such as Eragon, and looking back at the plethora of high-fantasy inspired units that we received, I'm a little surprised that we've never seen any kind of a dragon rider.
Mechanically, I didn't want her to be too complex (especially since she'll often be accompanying another unit), so I designed her largely as a passive buff to a single dragon of your choice (much like how the Greenscales must choose their Lizard King).
Despite only adding a single extra defense die on the surface, though, she can present interesting new layers of gameplay to dragons, both when using them and when going against them. Passenger, her form of reverse-Carry, gives the user new concerns when placing their dragons, now needing to worry about an additional figure placement instead of just the usual double-spaced dragon. The other player could either attack her with her lower defense or try to power through the buffed dragon in the hopes of Rider's Heartbreak crippling her.
Overall, I actually really like her method of boosting dragons. Because it requires Order Markers on the dragon, it encourages them to be used outside of Greenscale builds again, and Charos (one of the weaker ones in terms of power level) is the main dragon who will be using her attack buff anyway, since the others rely on Special Attacks. My tests so far have actually shown her to be underpowered, though, so I'll likely be adjusting her further in the future.
