THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Great event hero, my rolls just sucked in both games. Replayed the second game and got a much more evenly matched game.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: I do enjoy Korvac just had bad games with him. I do think Time Loop could have its roll reduced but it might have just been my bad luck. Other then that the powers are fun and all have utility. Could see him being very fun to use in a 2v2 game.

I played against Cinderquail in the above games. Korvac went 1-2. In Game 1 verse the Wrecking Crew, The Watcher took 5 order markers from Korvac over 3 rounds which was his undoing. In Game 2, another loss, Korvac rolled some of the worst defense you can roll on 8 dice. Blanked rolls or got 1 skull most of the time. Game 3 was against the OG Guardians again. We didn't keep stats but it was a close win by Korvac. He missed almost all of his Time Loop rolls, I may have the next play tester go back to using the power at d20 roll of 13.

Pretty strong. But also kept rolling blanks with Watchers power well above what would be expected, which made it pretty strong. He only boosted their d20 power once and the free movement wasn't as big of a deal because of Korvac Time Loop power

Yeah he is pretty streaky based on how many OM removals he gets. Watcher is much better with the Fan Four where the bonus movement matters more. The D20 boost is pretty trivial in most games.

Sounds like mostly bad luck for Korvac. I know you ran some earlier games with him that felt more balanced, right?

Round 1: Initiative Korvac. He flies to the center of the map but has no target yet.
Halo flies forward and hits her Halo roll to put Green on Korvac and immobilize him for the round. She fails an attack. Black Lightning moves next to Halo but can’t hit Korvac with his special attack.
Korvac double attacks Halo from range for one wound and puts a Drain marker on her.
Geo-Force advances. Halo hits Korvac for an auto wound with her Red light then fails an attack. She moves the Drain marker back to Korvac.
Korvac attacks Halo (for one wound and puts a marker on her) and then attacks Black Lightning (no wounds).
Katana advances. Halo uses the Violet marker to heal her two wounds and return to her start zone. She gives the Drain marker back.

Geo-Force hits Korvac with an auto wound but fails to hit with his diminished attack. He returns a marker. Katana whiffs.

Round 3: Initiative Outsiders. Batman and Halo move up. Katana misses her unblockable. Batman uses Mission Prep. Geo-Force fails to hit with an unblockable or his attack but returns the Drain marker. Katana is caught in a Time Loop but hits Korvac for two wounds from height disadvantage.
Korvac hits Geo-Force and Black Lightning with unblockables, replacing the Drain Marker on Geo-Force.
Black Lightning and Katana both get caught in a Time Loop. Black Lightning can’t hit with four Lightning Lash attempts and Katana whiffs her attack. Black Lightning does give back his marker.
Korvac’s unblockables fail to finish Geo-Force or Black Lighning, but do hit Katana and put a marker on her.
Halo adds an auto skull to her attack but can’t hit Korvac. Black Lightning avoids the Time Loop finally and gets in three wounds with his Lightning Lash.
Korvac goes two of three on unblockables and ends Black Lightning, cementing healing of one from now on and hits Katana for a wound, placing a marker on her.

Round 4: Initiative Korvac. He rolls two unblockables and hits Geo-Force for one, ending him and locking in another permanent healing source.
Katana gets caught in a Time Loop trying to follow Mission Prep and can’t climb to even height and is blocked. She returns her marker. Halo adds one to her attack with her light auras and hits Korvac for a wound.
Korvac takes a swipe from Katana, engages Halo, and punches her for a wound, placing the marker.
Batman and Halo both fail to hit Korvac, though Halo does use her blue light aura to steal an OM from him.

Batman engages Korvac but can’t hit.

Round 5: Initiative Korvac. He punches down on Batman (who uses the “X” for Mission Prep) for three wounds and places a marker.

Unit Summary: Korvac rolled a little above average, but not enough to explain the gap here. The Outsiders mounted their best attempt but never felt like they remotely had a chance here. The ability to consistently unleash a string of unblockables and then turn their attacks into -2 attacks really reduced what the Outsiders could do here. Time Loop kept Korvac mostly on height advantage, which meant he was rocking 9 defense most of the time, and he was able to consistently heal. His ability to lock in healing sources by killing figures with drain markers on them made him feel impossible to counter at times here.

Wannok gives a wound and Korvac heals it.

Round 2: Initiative Fantastic Four. Watcher does nothing useful. Human Torch takes a swipe, Flames On Korvac for two wounds, then fails an attack. Invisible Woman moves away, fails an attack, and returns a marker. Thing can’t hit Korvac. Mister Fantastic hits Korvac for two wounds.
Judge Anderson advances and fails to hit Invisible Woman from range.
Watcher has Human Torch Flame On Korvac for two wounds. Korvac misses the swipe. Human Torch Flames On for two more wounds on Korvac but takes the swipe this time. He and Mister Fantastic are both blocked by Korvac.
Korvac takes a swipe but punches out Invisible Woman, locking in a healing source.
Another double Flame On turn (with both swipes missed) finishes Korvac.
Wannok takes out an RC Car.

Round 3: Initiative Judge Anderson. She shoots Human Torch for a wound.
Watcher has Thing advance. Human Torch Flames On Judge Anderson for two wounds (taking a swipe for his fourth wound) then punches her for a third. Thing has his big Clobberin blocked by Anderson’s “X.” Mister Fantastic engages her and whiffs.
Anderson can’t finish Torch.
Mister Fantastic leads poorly, but finishes Anderson from range.
Anderson had OM3.
Watcher has Thing advance. Mister Fantastic leads poorly but punches out the last RC Car.

Unit Summary: This seems like a uniquely bad match up with Human Torch’s ability to consistently pump Korvac full of wounds. Without Torch, I think the Fan Four would’ve really struggled to wound and finish Korvac. With him, especially with extra moves from Watcher, Korvac was toast.

Thing and Invisible Woman made it hard for him to really go after Human Torch early, though in retrospect that would’ve been the move, as the Fan Four would’ve struggled to consistently wound Korvac without Torch. Korvac feels vulnerable to high level, efficient auto wounding, but pretty strong (maybe too strong) against attacks.

I hear what you are saying. So far he's 5-6 in his official games but a few have been like yours, very one sided for and against.

Yeah, it's one where I wonder if it's worth capping his markers at 2 and upping his life and lowering his defense. Right now it seems like the way you win is to steamboat him with auto wounds or big special attacks. But if you have an army of mostly normal attacks or less efficient auto wounds and special attacks, it can feel impossibly daunting to even get a lot of wounds on him at 8 defense (often 9 with height due to his mobility).

Another potential option would be making the auto-wound power once per round. I think the Outsiders would've felt like there was more they could do if he couldn't keep rolling unblockables against them every turn and keep placing Drain markers so consistently. He still has that big attack of 8, so he wouldn't be useless, he just wouldn't be able to ignore defensive powers that some armies rely on so consistently.

After discussing with Bats, for the next test I'm dropping his defense to 7. I also updated his Power Drain power to reflect the intent to return Drain Markers upon death. It's how both Cinderquail and I played it but its not spelled out so Bats played it a little differently.

Yeah, that probably would've changed 3 or 4 heals in the first game. He still would've won pretty convincingly, but it wouldn't have felt quite as bad.

In T2 Korvac stays put and Drops an Evergreen on Question for a wound. Batman moves up and wounds Korvac. In T3 Spidey swings up and Korvac releases a Cosmic Power Eruption wounding and Draining Batman and Wounding Constantine; Batman disengages giving Korvac a wound from range, Etrigan is caught in a Time Loop (15) and strikes up at Korvac for 2 wounds, and Question misses Korvac.

In T1 Etrigan is caught in a Time Loop (12) and hits Korvac for 3 wounds, Question finds and removes the '2'; Spidey Swings over distracting Etrigan as Korvac hits him for 3 wounds Draining him. In T2 Gidorah flies up and hits Korvac with a Gravity Beam destroying a bush giving Korvac a wound and then uses his Wings to give him 2 more and 1 from an attack; Kovac misses Gidorah twice missing both attacks. In T3 Gidorah gives Korvac a wound over 3 attacks; Korvac hits Gidorah for 3 wounds and then 2 wounds and places 2 Drain Markers. Korvac heals 2 wounds.

Korvac has initiative. In T1 Kovac misses Gidorah twice; Gidorah flies over using his Wings to give Korvac 4 wounds and then his Gravity Beam for 3 more wounds. In T2 Korvac engages Gidorah giving him 3 wounds and a Drain Marker; Gidorah gives Gidorah a wound and then finishes him off for the win.

In T3 Booster engages Korvac giving him 2 wounds; Korvac Erupts dropping the Palm on Cyborg for the final wound.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Korvac is hard to get a good read on. In the first game Korvac was like completely shut down and slaughtered but in the next game he held his own but still lost and in the last game he completely slaughtered. He seems close but maybe a few changes would help. If I had to pick a cost I'd probably say 900 right now since he seems to swing from 800-1,000 in usefulness and damage.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: Korvac is neat and has a lot of tricks. I think lowering the roll to 13 is the way to go for Time Loop as 14 seemed to pretty much never hit and 12 hit frequently for me so 13 seems like the happy medium. I'd also consider making the Eruption a once per round power and upping the damage to 2 unblockables to compensate for the loss of utility. I suggest this because of the experience in the last match where he was basically able to entirely ignore every trick the other team had and making it once per round would make it so that he has to attack for at least 2 turns a round.
