Wow that's a really beautiful way of spinning the narrative "capitalist fatcats be greedy"... no the reason is because they wanted people to buy a few extra master sets (for the terrain - which manufacturers didn't sell outside the master set) but NOT let them have enough goodies to reduce/prevent future purchases of small fig expansions.

Solution: buy enough master sets to get a few squads of Syvarises (or Syvari as we call them) to proxy as Aubrien Archers... my Zettis are Blastatrons, my Vikings are Knights of Weston, my KMAs are Microcorps and my Raelins got painted to all different Kyrie Hero colors.

Dude? Are you ok? I didn’t get get anything about capitalism in that post.

The designers really only expected people to buy 1 master set. Even the common sets for the first wave or two were really only balanced around 1x or 2x commons. The competitive players defined the meta of squadscape, and they were also the ones who were building those awesome display maps you’ll find on the internet from time to time.

Besides, Hasbro is in the market for volume and not niche.

None of us are okay unless we're among the top 1%. None of us will be okay until we adopt a Star Trek like utopian form of Socialism. Did anyone buy one master set and keep buying dozens of WAVES of expansions? When the game designers invented rules for EXTREME falls did they expect us to get those types of heights from one set of the castle expansion? Really? The only people I know who bought only one master set got real sick of the game real fast! With the rules for mirror armies established, why would anyone think 1 set of a common squad would be ideal for a game? Competitive tourneys are not possible for large scale players because of the overwhelming time commitment, so the fact that some great 500pt armies contain only 1 set of commons is strictly based on the limited total pts... no competitive player would say they'd rather have one set of Marro Drones than 14 sets (My Marro Warriors often proxy as Drones) if total point value was limitless.

Yes, I totally agree that Hasbro is lazer-focused on volume, hence my point that selling common squads in the set that contains the terrain would not fit a smart business plan.

On the topic of socialism, would anyone like a digital copy of my 3D scans of all the Heroscape figures so my fellow comrades can easily print their own copies of Zelrig and other overpriced figs? My scans aren't complete yet but I expect to have them done by next December.

Lol I got the stuff as a kid. 1 Master Set went a long way for me, but then I learned there was more. If only I had buying power back then.

Regarding society, the only folks who aren’t ok are in the ground.

Edit: Regarding competitiveness, most folks run a minimum of 3x of a common squad. Sometimes the format doesnt allow that, but thats the typical. 4thx4 is a strong core in a 400-500 double blind setting, for example.

For the first master set for the figures I would never buy multiple just for terrain I would buy the second one you get terrain and commons. If I need a level 3 rock for terrain I would put 2 swamp then the rock on top because I have like 3 swarm of the marro sets and only 1 first master set (Actually I'm "borrowing" my friends first master set so I guess I have 2). You can also buy terrain by itself so there's that too.

Intense stuff there. Buy as much as you want of whatever you want. Consumers shape what companies make. If they dont buy what they dont want it wont sell and companies wont make more of the same. If they do they wont be relevant for long. Not sure why all the politics came into this but if you have 3d renders of heroscape figures Im sure they would be welcome on here. There is already a thread on here with 3d stl files of heroscape items along with others on thingiverse if you'd like to add yours. Welcome to the site.

King_Buyer, you seem to be conflating Heroscape's designers with its publisher. You might want to search for the Dragon Lady at Hasbro. She pretty well defines the split in philosophy between designer and publisher.

Guess I was more thinking about what it was like back in the day when there was only one master set and no aftermarket vendors had started selling terrain separately yet. Now all things being equal, I could understand why gamers might want to retroactively update some of the old unique squads (Zettian guards especially come to mind).

Yeah 2x or 3x sounds like a much better use of commons. Certainly we can't compare 1 set of MWarriors to 1 set of MDrones which are equal in cost but wouldn't be anywhere near competitive against each other in a tiny 50pt game.

Regarding society, I totally disagree... the only ones truly okay are the ones in the ground. Just heard the other day that my beautiful clean energy electric car battery was probably mined by child slave laborers. I wonder who's less okay, the children, the "employers", or end consumers who might be inclined to just ignore where our luxuries are coming from.

Way back then I used all my pieces to make one battlefield. I kept getting more and more then as I said borrowed some more. I have enough currently to make around 6 tourney battlefields.
