How does the huge sheet of hexes work? I'm assuming you pour resin in to all the "cups" and then smash the other one on top. Could you explain that process a little more please? Not so much a tutorial, but more of brief explanation?
For someone like me, the process is almost as interesting and the finished product. They look awesome, that's for sure! |

Re: Delphic Customs - The Delphic Dungeon Expansion - Pics a
For casting the large platter of hexes, the plan is to fill the "cups" around a 1/4 full (put a single hex in a measuring cup of water to get its volume and multiply by 48 for the amount of resin required).
The top piece will be mounted to a piece of wood to ensure it does not sag in the middle. Trim the flashing (exess hardened resin) from the edges and it should be good to go. From my experience the flashing comes off very easily after an hour of set time by pulling it off with your fingers. You may notice in the mould photo there is still some silicone from the faults between the hexes. These will be trimmed away to ensure one solid piece. I'll being doing the 48-hex casting this weekend and will post pictures when it is completed. I chose the fortress hexes due to the "Peg" on the bottom and the side connections are more consistant and straight than the standard hexes. Road tiles would also work. I plan on a second prototype of the "Column" sections using road tiles which will make for a better final product. A stack of water tiles might work too. To make a stack of tiles for casting just stick them together with non-sulfur plasticine and clean up the edges. The wall sections are standard straight wall pieces from the Fortress set. I used a dremel tool to remove everything I didn't want and filled in the spaces with plasticine. This gives you a nice blank mould cavity for producing prototypes for carving different artwork into the face of the wall. Carving the hard resin is alot easier and nicer than trying to do it with platicine. But that is a personal prefference and would be cheaper if done just with the plasticine. This is a work in progress so I'm posting pics as I complete certain goals in the project. I am guessing another month of work on my part to complete the project.
