Armies With Point Adjustments - Based on Power Rankings
I'm thinking of holding a tournament in which every unit gets an adjustment to their point value based on spider_poison's Power Rankings. I think it might encourage play from the less popular units. Here's the point scheme I'm thinking of:
A: +20 points B: even C: -20 points D: -40 points F: -60 points * a + or - is 5 points (example, A+ units would be +25, A- units would be +15) How bout some 500 point armies using this scheme? I'd like to see if anything anyone can think of makes sense to use. I'll throw one together to start it off: Empress Kiova (C+)- 75 Einar Imperium x2 (C) - 240 Ashigaru Harquebus x3 (B-) - 165 Khosumet (F) - 15 Dumutef Guard (C) - 5 Total = 500 Wow, I was just trying to fill up the last 20 points and just realized that a Khosumet / Dumutef / Wolves army would probably have a lot of figures..... Not a good idea. It should be about the unit, not it's ranking and the scenario. It's point value is how the designers intended and thought it would be best with.

Yes! Do it! I'm interested in seeing if it plays better or not.
I don't think you should avoid doing it just because the designers came up with something different. I suspect that many of the players on this site have put in more hours of play-testing than the designers or their professional play-testers did, so it's perfectly valid for them to try playing with revised point values. And it would be nice to find out if the Power Rankings really hold up Whatever the case, it's not really going to change the game, and I doubt that the designers are going to get their feelings hurt. |

I'm not debating whether or not the point rankings are accurate - as a matter of fact, I'll be the first person to defend all of the point rankings. I'm one of the only people on this site I've seen to contend that Taelord and Runa are adequately priced, and that Q9 isn't undercosted. What I want to do here is promote the use of units that don't see much tourney play by giving players a bonus for using them in their army and penalizing you for using the units that are always fielded.
Do you guys have any ideas for armies in this format? This one's crazy.... Anubian Wolves x7 (B-) - 455 Khosumet (F) - 15 Dumutef Guard x6 (C) - 30 Total = 500 I might scale it down even more to make the A's even in point cost and everything else gets a discount. The more I look at the rankings, the more A's I see on there... units like Elgrim and Isamu lose all value when you add 20 points to their cost. Also, Kyntela Gwyn (C-) goes into any army at 0 points... Like battle reports? Click Tourney Reports (New 10/21/2012 - Cutters / Brutes!) KC's Maps Click KC's Customs Scaper of the Week #57 |

Make the adjustments a little less...extreme than they are now, and it might be worth trying out.
My suggestion: A+...+25 A.....+20 A-...+15 B+...+10 B.....+5 B-...+0 C+...-5 C.....-10 C-...-15 D+...-20 D.....-25 D-...-30 F+...-35 F...-40 F-...-45 Examples: Major Q10 180 > 205 Krav Maga Agents 100 > 120 Cyprien Esenwein 150 > 165 Blade Gruts 40 > 50 Syvarris 100 > 105 Tagawa Samurai Archers 65 > 65 Dzu-Teh 75 > 70 Dumutef Guard 25 > 15 Hatomoto Taro 130 > 115 Obsidian Guards 100 > 80 Spartacus 200 > 175 Dund 110 > 80 Khosumet the Darklord 75 > 35 Arena of the Valkyire - Help create Heroscape's next Master Set! Although I like this idea, I don't think it would play out well in a tournament setting. And if you're going to assign handicap scores to figures, a "C" rating should be 0 point difference, then adjust from there.

Thanks, Aldin! I knew there were more of these around somewhere. I'll have to compare those to the points generated by my system above.
Also, I don't think I'd compare Heroscape to the Titanic. Arena of the Valkyire - Help create Heroscape's next Master Set! Trade List C3V Brainstorm never not funny Pepperony - 14/09/13 |

This looks liek it would be fun. Now for armies like the wolves and dumutefs, just make sure to have a 24 hex starting zone like usual and that will probably work itself out.

For those interested in the numbers Aldin posted above, here are the adjusted costs for units added to the rankings after my initial post.

I think it would be much simpler to allow armies without the A units to have more points. For example an army with A units can be 440 points while an army without A units(and perhaps a mandatory C or worse unit) can be 500 points.
