Pokewalker anyone? If they made the controller like that, but compatible with other games, then it would be awesome! For example, you could use it to unlock, say, a bonus area on a new mario game, or a new character on Super Smash Bros: Insert cool name here. Your curiosity will be the death of you....

Re: Nintendo may announce successor to the Wii at E3!
@js: True, true. Currently, I'm at a loss for why Nintendo is putting a touch screen on joystick controllers.
Ah well, if they make a new Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros for it, then I'll probably end up getting ahold of one anyway. Your curiosity will be the death of you....

I also read that it is not certain that this new console will continue the Wii branding. If that is the case, consider this option: Project Cafe's controllers aren't used to control Wii games. Instead, it can play Wii games using the new controller as the sensor bar and using a traditional Wii-mote. |

Re: Nintendo may announce successor to the Wii at E3!
So you still have to have multiple controllers.
And regardless of the tech, you are not throwing a 6" screen of any quality on a controller which by itself will cost $40-$60 and not add another $40 bucks. I think the rumor must be wrong or Nintendo is insane - I'm not sure which. Plus making you switch between controllers would be even more silly, although would make owners of the Wii at least still have use for their old controllers. Not an ideal solution though and would imply a huge shift from the motion controls of the Wii for the next generation console (because you'd have to be insane to ask people to buy both controllers - oh wait, they already do - http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Classic-Co.../dp/B000IN0BSU - I know you don't have to get it but for some games it so much better, there is a reason they bundled one with Monster Hunter Tri) Now through May 28th, the Louisville region is in desperate need of platelets - call the Red Cross if you are interested in donating! |

Re: Nintendo may announce successor to the Wii at E3!
A few more interesting articles:
More speculation about system specifications, but backed - according to the authors - by some industry contacts. An awesome , but totally fake controller prototype. More potential controller info. Kotaku sketches some of their ideas for controller set ups based on the existing information. I like the first one in particular! I hadn't thought of a tablet style controller! That could be VERY interesting if they go that route. |

Re: Nintendo may announce successor to the Wii at E3!
A tablet controller would probably be a non-starter - They seem to want more of the 3rd party market and they will not get it by going that way (nor with motion control).
If they want people to also play CoD, GTA, or any other massive selling mainstream game that appeals to anything other than the casual market they would be insane to have a controller that cannot play those games with the same precision as the 360/PS3. I like everything else about the system, though I wonder if having the most expensive system out with few titles will be a winning strategy. However, it won't be unreasonably priced either (like the PS3 was). The only thing that makes me nervous is the controller. I really want to see it but if it's all gimmicky, they won't have any luck with the 3rd party market. 8 GB? Are they serious? Nintendo really doesn't get it if this is true. This alone completely kills any chance of anyone taking them seriously for 3rd party games. Now through May 28th, the Louisville region is in desperate need of platelets - call the Red Cross if you are interested in donating! |

Re: Nintendo may announce successor to the Wii at E3!
My guess is that they'll release a 'high end' machine as well that comes with more space. Of course this will come after everyone who wants one has it, and has to now upgrade...

Re: Nintendo may announce successor to the Wii at E3!
Nintendo has NEVER done upgrades successfully and the only storage options they mention are SD cards... this is..just mind boggingly stupid. Apparently they still want everyone to think they are a joke if you want 3rd party software.

Re: Nintendo may announce successor to the Wii at E3!
The discs have more memory than the system itself. But, Nintendo has never been one for a lot of downloadable content. I'm not sure if they want to change that with Project Cafe, but it's definitely not going to work for them if they are. But, again, this is just a rumor, right? The storage space may be more, it may be less. We won't know until this June.
