Character Bio - John Constantine is an occult detective and professional sorcerer from Liverpool, England. His gritty and brutal attitude makes him recognizable as a cynical, foul-mouthed, chain-smoking anti-hero. He has been a member of Justice League Dark, the Newcastle Crew and the Trenchcoat Brigade. In addition, he has also acted as a supernatural adviser and ally to the Swamp Thing. (DC Database)

CON ARTIST
When John Constantine is targeted for an attack or special power by an opponent's figure, roll the 20-sided die. If you roll 14 or higher, John Constantine may not be targeted for that attack or special power, and may not be targeted again until the start of the next figure's turn. If you roll 18 or higher and it is the targeting figure's turn, its turn immediately ends.

RIDING THE SYNCHRONICITY HIGHWAY
After the 20-sided die is rolled for John Constantine or any special power targeting John Constantine, you may roll another 20-sided die and then you may choose to replace the original roll with your new roll. Once per round, after a friendly Unique Hero within 5 clear sight spaces of John Constantine rolls the 20-sided die for a special power, you may roll another 20-sided die and then you may choose to replace the original roll with your new roll.

LAUGHING MAGICIAN

Alright, this is where the design was last left. It's been through a lot of different work shopping over the years, so I think he's pretty close, just need to make sure he works well within the greater JLD plans that are on going and that he plays well. One of the biggest outstanding needs is going to be mini pics, I don't have this figure myself and it's not cheap. So anyone who does have it or is planning on picking it up, please find a way to get us some mini pics sooner than later.

One thought I had related to the spell casting ability. Was thinking about adding a once per round restriction to the spell casting ability to better represent he is a dabbler in magic rather then a full blown wizard. Not sure he should be casting a spell during the OM set up phase, then 3 spells on 3 OM reveals on his card, plus maybe another spell or two while on defense.

I like this a lot. The only change I would suggest would be trying to incorporate a blank element to synchronize the JLD more. If we really want them to work together without direct synergy, they need to fit into a blanket together. As it stands, I would fear that Zatanna's blank mechanics and Constantine's d20 boosts would divide into two separate armies unless the two of them work well with one another in a vacuum.


My suggested change:


CON ARTIST
When John Constantine is targeted by an opponent's figure, roll one combat die. If you roll a blank, John Constantine may not be targeted until the next time you reveal an Order Marker


A blank (0.1666) lives between a roll of 17+ (0.2) and 18+ (0.15) in terms of odds of success. This is a little more difficult than the currently-presented 16+ (0.25), so the compensation is giving him immunity until the player turn finishes rather than just the unit turn.

I have to strongly agree with this sentiment about minis. None of them are cheap, but we should figure out how we are going to get pictures here as soon as possible.

There appear to be two minis. This one is $15 on CSI and this one is $19 on CSI. Both are out of stock on TrollAndToad and neither exist on MiniatureMarket.

Had to go through the tests to figure out the intent of Con Artist and make some educated guesses to fill in the gaps. This seem right to you, Yoda?

(Probably should have caught some of that earlier, but I haven't been very involved in this one - sorry about that)

Also thinking Condemn is going to be an auto draft with him if you believe your opponent has 1 or more d20 rollers on their team, not sure how to put that in the synergy section. Maybe just list it under the Strategy and Tips section.

I was thinking maybe limiting what spells he can cast somehow, instead of how often he can use them. Only uniques/only commons, or only 1 of each spell, for example. I have no problem with your method either, just throwing out an alternate idea.

Kind of like the Unique spells only idea. Then he's not running around throwing 3 lightening bolts per round, reversing time every round, or becoming a full time healer for your team. The nature on the unique spells themselves will be a good limiting factor, but then he can cast reactionary spells like Condemn even if he already cast a spell on offense earlier in the round.

Oh, and if I need to I don't have a problem putting together something for a bio here, but I figured there may be someone else out there who would be interested in doing it. So if anyone else wants to tackle the bio here, go ahead and post it up when you get a chance.
