Nice 520 point army, though you need a large start zone. The only drawback is the loss of Kato Katsuro. However, if you spread the Harquebus out and alternate between firing with them and moving up the Yari, it can work. Now with a huge start zone and a 720 point army...

It'd be fun, anyway. I only have 2 packs of Ashigaru, and really want more.

Worth nothing the Harquebus not only have a +1 Squad member over the Stingers but also a +1 Range advantage. Not saying they are better but they often are overlooked

The Stinger drain can also backfire and hurt with a 1-4 d20 roll. There's nothing worse than crappin' out on the d20 and losing a Stinger and the rest of your turn. It can devastate a game. No such concerns with the Ashigaru.

True. Wait then Fire is more reliable.

I'd still take Stingers though because of that extra defense and greater versatility.

Too bad the stingers have the same base attack as the ashigaru WITH the WtF bonus.

Agreed. And you don't have to roll for stinger drain every turn. If there is a turn where you losing the gaining the extra attack die is not worth the risk (you only have 2 or 3 left, you NEED to attack this turn, etc.) you don't have to risk it.

Re: The Book of the Ashigaru Harquebus

I love the Stingers, and would usually pick them over the Ashigaru unless I was doing a Kato army. Getting to activate 2 squads in one turn is the big plus, and for me at least, is the only reason i'de use the Ashigaru.

4th and 10th were released before these guys.

Really, Kato Katsuro w/ both Ashigaru squads back by Raelin is really the most competitive army for these guys.

Honestly I think one can make an argument for swapping out Kato and whatever Yari you have for something to cover weakness like a SAer or rats or any number of things. They are the cheapest 4 man ranged squad in the game so discount them at your peril.

~Dysole, who will point out that 8 attacks a turn is nothing to sneeze at however
