Re: Bay Area Brawl - NHSD'10

GOOD TIMES. Thanx Ronin for hosting yet another scape day. I always look forward to your events. Thanx to CMGames for stepping up and really helping to coordinate with Ronin to keep things moving.

This was my favorite game day yet. There was an exciting new crowd of faces that showed up to play and everyone battled admirably. My boys have been looking forward to this for the last couple of years now and are super excited to say they played competetively for a ranked position, (although they were burnt out after the 4th game and ready to retire). But they managed to hang in there for one last battle. They wanted to say thanx to CarnivalBoy too,.... thanx for the custom glyphs

Menchi,........Why? Why me? Why the first round? Luckily you hadn't disclosed your secret of "Hit 'em hard and win" or things may have been different. (Probably not, but maybe.) ((But probably not.)) (((...but maybe...)))

Ronin,......... Why? Why again? This was a difficult battle for me even before the armies were placed on the board. Truly mentally discouraging.

Jerry,........ Sorry dude. That's the way the dices rumble. It was all credited to the amazing frenzying of my Aubrien Archers. Moregrimm wouldn't go down easy though.

Frankie,..... It was all in the army,... well that and the pretty good die rolling I was able to pull off too.

????,........ I forget the name of my final opponent, but you fought admirably considering I had Heavy Gruts moving at 9 spaces each on every turn. It's kinda hard to fight of such an aggressive blitz.

All in all GREAT TIME. Thanx again to Ronin for hosting and to everyone who was able to attend for one of the largest NHSD's I've attended.

Stay tuned for the FACTION-n-ACTION tournament specs coming soon. (Tentatively set for the 3rd weekend in January at Game Kastle.)

Do you think it worthy of BoV submission?

Gotcha covered for Grimfang, RV:
Quote:
Grimfang
PR: 3-2 AR: 4-1 T: 7-3

R1 - A/8 v tshill12. W
R2 - A/2 v Carnival Man. W
R3 - A/7 v Dan. W
R4 - A/11 v Menchi. L
R5 - A/4 v Killometer. L
(I'm assuming that for A/X, X is the army number)

Well 1 loss came from when the Nilf/Zeta/PK army I loaned out stayed in play after the player left, and my Braxas/Dividers army assumed a loss from it.

Overgrown is a fantastic looking map. I first saw it in person at Wind Lanes last BAG day. Unfortunately that was the day that I wasn't able to stick around and play any Scape, so the tourney was the first time I got to actually play it. My match up was

Killometer
Q9
Stingers x3
Raelin I
Marcu

Carnival Man
Braxas
GSWs x3
Blue Wyrmlings x2

I won initiative and moved Q9 (who I started on the two level-2 road tiles) to the leading edge of my elevated road, and it was pretty much all over from there. If CM tried to rush me with his GSWs, I had a height advantage, and I locked down the entire intersection, making CM risk a leaving engagement strike (which he did, and I blanked), or forcing him to take the long way round to try to attack Raelin (which he also did, but that took him out of range of his Lazardking). Q9 even had the range to hit the opposing start zone from there, so I was able to snipe CMs leading GSW on OM 1. I hopped Raelin up behind Q9 with OM 2, then kept eveything else on Q9 until Braxas swung around the outside of the map into the threat range of my Stingers. The glyphs were Kelda and (I think) Initiative, but neither ever came into play.

Pics showing where I parked Q9:
Spoiler Alert!

tl:dr, gorgeous map, terrible match-up

Re: Bay Area Brawl - NHSD'10

Sounds to me like the map is prone to lockdown. And that it heavily favors range. But that it looks good. Is that the gist of it?

Winning initiative on the first move really counts on this map with road bonused (is that a word?) ranged units. But Braxas as the only heavy-hitter against any high defense large unit would be a losing battle from the start anyway. The only reason the match lasted as long as it did was due to the GSW's I sacrificed to Q9 keeping him busy wiffing a couple times. Remember they actually rolled better once Braxas was out of the game.

Photo from that match...maybe taken when
I got my one good roll of the whole game?
