Re: The Book of Harley Quinn (Bat-Family) (Breathing)
I think I like her not being able to toss it back on enemy turns, but Fleeting Escape is something I'll definitely keep in my back pocket if it needs modification in practice.
I could see that. Not really opinionated either way. Pretty much don't care about the name. Modern Harley seems to carry a bat a lot and Batter Up! felt like a cool name for that, attached to the original mechanic. Hey Batter Batter sounds cool too. Only one I don't like is Bat-Bat SA, since that's specifically a weapon that another goofy Tynion Batman character carries. |

Re: The Book of Harley Quinn (Bat-Family) (Breathing)
I think it's fine as-is. "Batter up!" is what the ump says to call the next batter. I don't think it's ever been used to imply specifically a single big hit or planting feet etc.
Batter up: (baseball) (Used by an umpire to invite the next batter to the batter's box, especially at the beginning of a half-inning.) Batter up: 1. verb To harm or damage someone or something. A noun or pronoun can be used between "batter" and "up." Batter: verb strike repeatedly with hard blows. noun noun: batter; plural noun: batters (in various sports, especially baseball) a player who is batting. And for visual references on how she typically fights with it(she also uses it in the cartoon quite a bit): 20 seconds in: 1:16 in: So I really see no issue with it, and it's short enough to keep it 1 line. |

Re: The Book of Harley Quinn (Bat-Family) (Breathing)
I mean... it's not really a double entendre? Batter has multiple meanings sure, but for "Batter Up!" to be a double entendre the whole phrase has to be able to be read different ways.
If you say "Batter Up!" without some other subject then you're talking about a batter as in a noun. Unless you're talking about like... hitting a copy of the Pixar movie and even then that would be like "Let's batter Up!" or something usually. So it could be a double entendre between batter as in a baseball person or the thing you make pancakes out of... but not with batter the verb. Even if it was like in response to a hypothetical question or something there's not a way to read that as the "hit you a bunch" meaning in that context without adding more words. If I asked: "What are you going to do with him?" Something like this works as a response using the verb batter: "I'm going to batter him up!" "Let's batter up his face!" etc. Just saying "Batter up!" would mean you or him or someone is a batter, or maybe you're going to pour pancake batter on him I guess. Even if you're holding a bat and say "Batter Up!" and start wailing on this unfortunate dude no-one on the planet is going to go "oh haha, they actually meant the verb batter in some vague play on words! So funny!" They're going to think you're making a play on baseball. But I'm getting way too deep in the woods here on power names. Re: The Book of Harley Quinn (Bat-Family) (Breathing)
I do agree with SW that I don’t love batter up as a play on words when you’re nailing someone repeatedly with a bat. Seems more like a special attack you can only use if you didn’t move that hits harder.

Re: The Book of Harley Quinn (Bat-Family) (Breathing)
Fwiw I sort of checked out here when y'all started going in the Q9 special attack direction for Batter Up! because the power just didn't scan for me thematically at all anymore, but I didn't want to yuck your yum. Soundwarp and Tickle pretty much articulated where I'm at, though.
I think the comic trope of a character like Harley yelling "Batter Up!" and then planting their feet and taking one big knockout level swing is pretty engrained in the collective consciousness. And it's an effect that matches the character really well, IMO (and is portrayed in that third video clip Ark posted, whereas the other two video clips just seem like "normal attack" to me). That said, if y'all want to go in another direction, that's cool too. I think changing the name is a reasonable compromise, though, since it's clearly really not resonating with a few of us. The mechanics there strike me more as "Wild Swings SA." I could even see "Going to Bat SA." That gets you a full on Batman Ally pun in there. C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: The Book of Harley Quinn (Bat-Family) (Breathing)
Seems like enough people have an issue with Batter Up! that it's worth moving away from it.
Quote:
I think I want to stay with Dynamite on the glyph. Sticks of dynamite are totally things that people hold/carry in comics. Grenades are too, and don't feel wrong for Harley, but I think that strays dangerously close into the whole Weapon Glyphs thing, which I really don't want to broach with this design. Like I said, we could always do 'Harley's Love Bomb' and use a picture of a Valentines box of chocolates to match the mini, but I think the glyph is something that has reuse potential, so keeping it generic would be cool. |

For the bomb glyph, seems like we want something that hits this trope.

Re: The Book of Harley Quinn (Bat-Family) (VOTE for Initial)
Okay, updated the SP(s) with the current take(s). Sounds like we're mostly settled on mechanics, just need to decide on some names for things.
Ran the point calculator and got 180 (powers valued at 3, 2, and 2.), but there's already a Harley and a Bat-Fam member there so I figured I'd start her at 190. The other sweet spot it'd be cool to hit would be 160, but we'll see how that goes. I propose a VOTE for Initial Playtesting. (Checklists incoming.) If anyone has any thoughts on naming for either the Glyph or any of the powers, feel free to include it in your vote. |

Re: The Book of Harley Quinn (Bat-Family) (VOTE for Initial)
Just being nitpicky, but what if you change the wording from "activate the Dynamite" to "Light the Dynamite" and make it clear the power is referring to an on-card mechanic? Since "activate" is an actual game term.
Also, Dynamite isn't traditionally 'activated', you light the fuse. |

Re: The Book of Harley Quinn (Bat-Family) (VOTE for Initial)
Cool to have a Batfam Harley! Does Harley typically use guns when alongside the Bat-Family? I typically only see her use a bat or hammer as a "good guy".
Hot Potato and Bat Barrage both seem fairly weak to me - The Dynamite looks like it could hurt you as much as it helps depending on the d20. Fun theme but tough to say how useful of a power it is. Bat-Family Bats does help factionally to get his allies away from the dynamite and toss it back, though. Bat Barrage is at best a single attack of 4, not any better than her normal attack unless you get a little free movement. And there's not really any reason to use the attacks of 1-3 there. I feel like it could use something extra there, like a bonus for rolling all skulls or something. |
